The walking trail is my favorite!! My children enjoy the swings,slides and the the little meandering stream . Sometimes there are little minnows and tadpoles in the stream,the children like to watch them swim. It’s relaxing and beautiful place to visit. Also, close to everything you could want for dining and shopping.

A nature park with lots of gardens, a small pond with a water fountain, many geese, squirrels, and fox (on occasion). The park is equipped with water tanks and cups for walkers and runners. There are pavilions, an amphitheater and many benches. There is a one mile walking trail back in to the wooded area and a walk-way/pier looking out over the pond. Bathrooms are available.

This is my go-to spot because I live close by. It has a fully paved trail just over a mile long and includes a 40-acre park and lake site. Trails are marked for distance. It’s pet friendly, has rest stations and water stations. It’s very clean and well-maintained, including the restrooms. Plenty of parking. I love the heavily wooded areas, and it’s SO nice in the fall. It’s a great park that is both secluded and quiet.

Beautiful park. Fun facility to play baseball at! They even do a small church service on Sundays (if you’re interested). Plenty of bathrooms and concessions.

There are several tour options available: self-guided Driving tour using the included brochure and map, cell phone driving tour, an audio tour CD (purchased at the Visitor’s Center for $15), the Civil War Trust Vicksburg app (free), or the licensed park Tour Guides. We were on an excursion with the American Queen and had a licensed park tour guide, Harry McMillin. He was phenomenal! Our tour began with a viewing of a short film which gave a realistic re-enactment and review of the battle at Vicksburg during the Civil War. The tour is mostly a driving tour with stops to view impressive markers erected by the states whose soldiers fought the war and to get an idea of the strategies for the campaigns. Also on sight is the USS Cairo Gunboat and Museum where the salvaged ironclad, Cairo, can be viewed. We spent three + hours in the park and learned so much more than I thought possible. Harry is a font of knowledge with many educational and interesting stories to tell. It is clear he loves his job and we are grateful that he shares his knowledge with us so well.

Standing elegant in beautiful surrounds, with extensive original furnishings throughout its rooms and many outbuildings intact and in very good repair, the Melrose estate is a great example of a lifestyle entirely dependent on slavery. It is empty now, a silent testament... until you reach the slave quarters. Here there are voices to be heard, voices of faith and endurance, voices of paternalism and condescension. The National Parks Service earns a big tick here.

Overlooking the Mississippi River in Natchez, MS. is Bluff Park. In the park, you are able to get a spectacular view of the Mississippi River and Louisiana on the far side. The walkway also has historical markers of which one is the marker for the beginning of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The park is clean and well maintained. Suggest a visit to get a great view of the river while in Natchez.
