The largest city in the Jackson Purchase region, it is located at the confluence of the Tennessee and the Ohio rivers, halfway between St. Louis, Missouri, to the northwest and Nashville, Tennessee, to the southeast. The population was 24,864 in 2015, down from 25,024 during the 2010 U.S. Census. Twenty blocks of the city's downtown have been designated as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The ladies waiting the tables were friendly and fast but the kitchen made them look bad. The poor girl waiting our table had to come out of the kitchen to tell us that they were out of something we ordered. When we finally found something to order that they actually had she brought it right to our table. We ordered pulled pork on toast, half rack of ribs and corn fritters with the included sides of beans, slaw and fries. I ordered waffle fries and they were actually chewy. The slaw was salty and the beans were bland. My husband liked the pulled pork and he eats it in every state we visit. My ribs were tasty but half of the meat was too tough to eat. It is really reasonably priced but if we're traveling through again, we won't stop here.

Grew up in Paducah and Starnes always a favorite. Never knew other states served as barbecue some skinny beef covered with BBQ sauce...ugh! As we moved around in military found that Starnes barbecue is the best ever. Have to have their flattened toasted bread or the bbq just not right!!

Moderate food at a moderate price. Itâs clean and quick. My beef is with the owners/managers. I have seen mistreatment of workers in the past so I avoid eating here most of the time. I have also known people who worked here in the past and they confirm that the treatment of the workers is bad. Workers also seem fearful of them and nervous about making any mistake. They come to your car so fast that you havenât parked yet and you are afraid of hitting them. No chance to even look at the menu. The workers are pressured, bigly. I just canât support this even though the food is clean and good.

As soon as you park, you can smell the barbeque, making my mouth water as I walked into the building. The menu is limited to barbeque, sides and drinks, but what more could be needed? All the food is inexpensive and tastes great. It was unusual getting a sandwich made with toasted regular white bread, but the flavor of the meat made it really worthwhile. The sandwich was a normal size, not huge and overstuffed, just right for my appetite and the price couldn't be beat. BBQ sauce on the side if you want it. Everyone has their favorite bbq sauce, so some may not like it, but I'd say this was my favorite bbq sauce of the places I tried on this week-long trip. It was good enough I bought a bottle of sauce to bring home with me.Sitting inside at the counter, it was amazing watching all the people come in to get a few pounds of the different kinds bbq (ham, chopped pork, beef, turkey) to take home for dinner. The parking lot is small, but turn-over is fast, there's lots of street parking and the building next door had a fair bit of parking that wasn't in use. There are only a few tables and a small counter. Everything else was take-out, but it would have been fun to grab take-out and go across the street to the big park.

We stopped while passing thru and glad we did. Good pulled pork and good beans. Lots of pies to choose from. We recommend. Disappointed that they donât have brisket or burnt ends.
