Nice location but unattended?

Reviewed By KirkyLondon

Good location but on arrival no entry to hotel? When we dialled the number the person that answered couldn’t speak English. We managed to get code to open the door. Very strange for a large hotel no one was there, we returned 10 minutes before check in time, still no one there. Eventually a lady arrived at 5.10pm she seemed to be the only one working there. She didn’t speak English ( which on the booking details it stated English was spoken). We had requested a room on the ground floor, as one of our group is hard of walking, we were given 2 rooms on the second floor (no elevator on property). I showed her the confirmation email she then moved us but one room only had a bath, no shower, we both wanted showers we were moved again. The lady was as helpful as she could be. Rooms are very nice, no hairdryer. After we returned later again the hotel was unattended which made us a little uncomfortable as keys are left at reception and anyone could get them also if there was an emergency there is no one to contact. There was a lot of traffic noise at night as it backs onto a main road. Breakfast was very good, buffet style. Again the same lady was there, she seemed to be doing everything! Nice garden, which we sat in after dinner with a bottle of wine. Lots of parking.

Based on a one of the reviews we decided to stop here to see for ourselves. Interesting route to reach the site, follow the signs to the Hippodrome and once you know your way around you can shorten the route! Reception, open all day July and August. Was manned by three different members of staff, looked like all students and all spoke English, some better than others but no problems. Camper service point immediately outside the site the access to which is barrier controlled. You can have a badge for 30 Euros deposit. Pitches are hedged and of a good size, there are some smaller and bigger than the norm and various degrees of shade to full sun. None are too far away from one of the two blocks - hot showers and water for washing up, washing and all very clean. Toilet seats and toilet paper provided and baby bath! Those pitches by the river do not have access tot he river, they are hedged and there is a path between, access to that path is via a gate on the camping field. The site has a pool, we didn't try it out, plenty of things for children in terms of playground items and also has vegetables growing that you can help yourself to! The site will organise bread / breakfast items if ordered the night before, small range of items available to buy in reception. The town is accessible via the road which borders the sports ground and takes you along the river in part by the Chateau and across from the Church. There is a Carrefour Express in the square which should provide all your needs along with the bakers and butchers. The one thing that seemed to be missing was a fruit and veg shop but Carrefour Express or the market (Monday and Friday) will provide. All in all, a very pleasant and quiet site, a mix of English, French and Dutch when we were there with a single German overnighting. Booked for 2 nights, stayed for four! and certainly one to return to!

Nous avons été très bien accueillis dans cet établissement. Le personnel est fort sympathique et disponible. Les chambres sont propres. La literie est très bonne. L'endroit est calme. Les petits-déjeuners copieux. Prix raisonnable.
