When the tyranny of distance inhibits using the freshest produce you have to make allowances for the dishes you receive from some regional restaurants.21 Doon seem to have slipped a little from when they first opened but it is still one of the best I've experience from an out of the way town. Prior visits i'd put favourable against some capital city popular eateries

With only 2 real restaurants in Blackwater, I've been to 21 Doon on my last trip, so I chose Jag's Restaurant at Blackwater Motor Inn. The service was friendly, brisk & efficient however there was little choice for gluten free with even mashed potatoes having gluten! I chose a medium rare eye fillet with seasonal veggies. Eye fillets are my favourite steak, always tender & juicy unless they're overcooked: mine was medium rather than medium rare but it was still tender, juicy & full of flavour. The seasonal veggies were crisp & tasty, carrot, broccolini, beans & snow peas: very nice. Recommended!

We were in Blackwater for the May Day Fair. We didn't find anything healthy there so decided to have an early dinner at Just 4 Thai. The Curry Puffs were spiced nicely with light pastry, our Spring Rolls were a little overcooked, too crunchy and tough but the flavour was delicious. I had the special crispy Thai squid- lightly battered like Tempura, the Squid maintaining tenderness and moisture. My husband had the Chicken Laksa, and said it was the best coconut milk based one he has had in ages. The vegetables were still crisp the chicken tender, the sauce exploding with flavour. Both entrees and one meal presented nicely with a small colourful salad. Quantity was just right to satisfy especially as squid meals can be scant in serving size. We dined outside with nice lighting next to a disused pond which is large but no water, just weeds ( guess it's the drought). Some potted plants or white gravel could improve it's outlook. Will return again. Thank you.
Every time I go to the workers club I get their signature crumb steak, chips and salad. I like mine with mushroom gravy. Everywhere I go 8 talk about the crumb steak, no where has ever matched it for taste and tenderness. It's the Jewl of the central highlands. My new misses Shaz offered to try and cook one better and I told her to not even bother with it as she is a average cook at best. All and all I give this crumb steak venue a 5 out of 5
Emily, the Maitre'd, greeter, waitress and many other tasks, is very friendly and helpful and efficient. The food portions are very generous and we were glad that we had ordered the Entrees and not the Mains.The place is large and airy and plenty of space for noisy riotous children to run around between the tables. Apart from that little item, we enjoyed our visit and would return.
