If you want authentic Hawaiian food, this is the place to go. It's a little out of the way, but worth it. For out of towners, I recommend you calling ahead and placing a take out order to bring back to where you are staying and eating there.

Not being Asian or Hawaiian I was taken by surprise when my garlic/butter shrimp was cooked in the shell. I guess some people like it that way but I'm used to eating shrimp in California and Mexico so it wasn't to my liking. Our guest is a local so I should have ordered what he did. Next time I'll try something else.

A former Wendy's restaurant completely redone.
Sam Choy is a legend in Hawaii. But he is not in the kitchen of this restaurant. The description of the food was tempting, but it just did not quite deliver. We had the fresh fish, and it was dry.My suggestion. Go for Sunset. The view is the BEST. They do great cocktails. The pupu menu is standard but well done ( calamari was great!)And as other reviews note, the staff is great. Friendly and professional

We ate hear because there were such limited options in Ocean View at the time. Even then, we were disappointed. The food was what you might expect where the food is already cooked and waiting to be served -- that is it was seasoned well but the meat was tough and overcooked. The biggest complaint was the young woman at the counter. She could/would not answer questions about the food, seemed irritated in being asked, made no eye contact. I could see our order at the window ready to pass to us, but for 10 minutes after it was placed in the window, she continued to takes orders of customers coming in. As we got our order, and thanked her, there was absolutely no response. Except for the exceptional waitress at Mehe's, this seems to be the norm of wait staff and clerks in Ocean View. Perhaps there is a universal location they all go to for customer service training.
