My friend R and I hadnât had dinner together since March and we were passed due. We decided on the Iron Horse Tavern in downtown Morgantown, WV. It was Thursday evening so we went a little early but really there was no reason. With the most of the WVU students gone for the summer it wasnât overly busy just a steady clientele.The cocktail menu is fun to look at with many delicious choices from White sangria with cukes and melon to a spiked lemonade. I had my usual a dirty Titoâs martini while R had the lemon drop. Mine was made right by the addition of more olive juice, hers was prefect and most refreshing. To eat I settled on the shrimp and grits and R had a burger with blue cheese and homemade chips. Her burger was cooked to order. My shrimp was delicious, so tender. I felt there was too much gravy on the grit cakes so their flavor was a bit lost. But the perfect mouthful of shrimp, grits and gravy, was certainly there last night many times. The service was fast but also not intruding. She refilled waters and asked just the right number of times if we were good. Surprisingly we were there for 2 1/2 hours and felt most comfortable.

I have enjoyed several meals here, some related to work, some with friends. Each time I enjoyed my meal and tried new dishes, many of them very creative and unique. The restaurant is nice, very clean and classy, but the outdoor deck over the river is really awesome, especially in summer and fall. The atmosphere is relaxing. Beer and drinks are also very good and bartending excellent.

Our large family group ordered dinner and had a variety of meals. All were very good and plentiful. I really liked the atmosphere--since we were a big group they put is in a special side room and that was very considerate. The restaurant itself was spacious and not noisy at all. During good weather the back balcony is open and it looks very inviting. Each time I bike on the rail trail, I want to return there for dinner and eat outside. Plus diners outside can have their well-behaved pup join them, a real plus for those of us who have lived and traveled in Europe and are accustomed to bringing dogs to dinner or lunch.

Good food, right on time for pickup. Just had to stay for a few samples. The waitress was upbeat, helpful, and fun. The burgers and mac&cheese were great, a little pricy but glad I stopped.
