Elena's Home of Finest Filipino Foods

Excellent sampling of Filipino food in Waipahu. We visited since my cousin’s name is Elena and we weren’t disappointed. Guy Fiery recommended this place on Triple D and I would recommend it for fine Filipino fare. We opted for the buffet and enjoyed a little bit of everything. All you can eat Buffet for an adult at $11.50 is about as good as it gets in Hawaii. Give Elena’s a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Thelma's Restaurant

Located about 30 minutes north of Waikiki, in the Waipahu district, is a classic Filipino restaurant that serves whatever your imagine can conjure up. It is open everyday, 5:30am to 9:00pm. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall (Westgate Center)--you have to be looking for it at #116. Parking in front is free. We had the Adobe Pork and the Pancit Mix with a huge white rice bowl. Both were delicious and worth the 30 minute drive. Service was just just OK but not the friendliness waitresses in the world. The place was packed with customers (all Filipinos) so expect to wait a little while if you arrive at dinner time. Prices were inexpensive. Other than the entrees there is an All You Can Eat Buffett available for about $15 (4:30-9:00pm). The interior was shop worn and needs a basic cleaning. Half of the orders taken were take outs but tables are available for any size group.

Max's Restaurant

Max's is the only Filipino dine-in restaurant where we take guests. We haven't been to Max's in several months but had dinner here this past Friday. It was very busy but we got seated in about 10 minutes, not bad. We were disappointed because they ran out of our favorite Fresh Lumpia Ubod but happy with everything we ordered: Garlic Fried Rice, Pancit Bihon, Kare-Kare (oxtail stew), Bicol Express (pork belly cooked with coconut milk), and Sizzling Pork Sisig. No Fried Chicken this time -- this is Max's signature dish but we were not fond of their fried chicken. We also enjoyed our dessert: Halo-Halo and Buko Pandan. I would like to mention that the service was very good, especially from our waiter Gene. Max's is not fine dining but it's just nice to have an upscale enough Filipino restaurant on our side of the island.

I really like the food here. My go to place when I'm craving Filipino food. My Co-workers and I come here often and always leave full and satisfied. The service is good and very friendly. One of our favorite dishes is the mini pork adobo fried rice omelette with lechon. Don't let the " mini" mislead you because it's anything but mini. Their lechon is one of my favorites and it's something I get every time no matter what else I get. We like to share the dishes. It's located in the Waipio shopping center where the Foodland is, next to the Acapulco Mexican restaurant.
