Gili Nanggu

Reviewed By A T - Dublin

Bali and Lombok has great snorkelling. Gili Air and Gili Meno for reefs and turtles (even Lionfish, sea snakes etc). Nusa Lembongan for Mantas (and everything else).
However Gili Nanggu's artificial reef is a real little gem. Great clarity and colour (as good as the best of the above and packed with fish) and no currents / swells (bigger problem on Nusa Lembongan).
Some tips.
1. Make sure if you are on a guided tour, that you spend a lot of time on the first artificial reef (and the natural reef that follows on from it) on Nanggu. After it, the other parts of Gili Nanggu are less impressive (colour and fish wise).
2. The other nearby Gili Islands have even less impressive snorkelling. Gili Sudak is really a lunch spot (that the guides are always keen to get to early). Gili Kedis it is tiny dot of sand. Water quality near Kedis and Sudak is much poorer (lot of rubbish).
3. Note that there are things in the water that sting around Gili Nanggu (sea lice, jelly fish and some other plants). My 7 and 9 year olds had large scars on their legs and arms from stuff they brushed against. It didn't seem to affect me, but they were in agony and needed medical treatment. If possible, get the kids a light wet-suit (or even the fuller body rash vest type sun screen suits). When I did this, it helped a lot.
4. While Gili Nanggu's first reef is excellent (surperb for novices), the rest is tiny and not comparable to the northen Gili Air/Meno/Traw. Don't be fooled by guides telling you that the southern Gili's are the new discovery to the over-crowded northern Gili's. There is no comparison. The northern Islands are much bigger, have better water quality and range of sites. There are plenty of safe sites with low currents on the East sides of Gili Air and Gili Meno that novices can snorkel safely on.

Pink Beach

Reviewed By Linda K

We rode here from Mataram, it's quite a long ride taking 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The last 8K is down a gravel track, lots of ruts and holes and very bumpy so you need to take it steady.
On arriving at the beach you have to pay 10,000 a bike to park, which is ok. There are drinks stalls but these are expensive at 13,000 for a small bottle of water so better to take your own food and drink.
The beach is lovely and you can see the flecks of red coral in the sand giving it a pinkish tinge. The tide was going out when we were there so you have to walk out a long way to swim. We were there late afternoon and it was fairly quiet. It is fairly easy to wander up onto the headland either end of the bay and take in the views.

Senggigi Beach

Reviewed By ReviewerIndo - Jakarta, Indonesia

it is volcanic beach so don't expect white or golden send, at some spots you can see volcanic rocks as well. beach itself is not so wide, so hard a few meters from your hotel to the water, but the slope is quite steep to let the water go up to the hotel, and take makes walking along the coast a bit difficult.
Also watch out for tiny sand crabs, plenty of them here.

Gili Kedis

Reviewed By aditralfath - Denpasar, Indonesia

There are around 17 small Islands (gili) in this area, and this little one is my most favourite.
If you're idea of an excellent beach is about white sand, crystal clear water, wide variety of fishes and star fishes, beautiful coral garden and spectacular surrounding, then this is it. Gili Kedis, Lombok.
If you like taking photos, this place will amaze you even more. Drone it from above, you'll find this gorgeous little island is exactly a heart-shaped island. Maybe that's the reason why many calls it The Honeymoon island.

Yes, I love this mekaki beach. due to less people visit the beach, it felt like my private beach. It's location is quite far, but it can be reached by car or motorcycle. Better bring your own food and visit in the evening. The waves quite big, it can be used for Surfing as well or you can just relaxing on the beach or do sunbathing :)

Lenggoksono Beach

Reviewed By Kuntadi J - Malang, Indonesia

Drive down for 5 hours from Ranupane, after climbing Mt Semeru, we arrive at a peaceful traditional fisherman's beach. After a fresh seafood lunch by the beach, we start beach combing to a secluded beach of Banyu Anjlok, where we can enjoy a fresh cup of local coffee from local plantation, have a dip at fresh water pool above a waterfall, and spend the night under the star, at a local coffee shop beside the pool. The next morning we hike to another hidden beach, Kletekan and Bolu-Bolu. We can either snorkeling, boating or just laying down to have a suntan. The next day a traditional fishing boat will pick up to return to the neighboring beach name Wedi Awu beach. In this 3 day 2 night trip you should prepare a wide rim hat, extra t-shirt, short pants, and a tennis shoes or beach sandals

My wife was over for two weeks and the main part of these two weeks we stayed on Lombok. Why Lombok, first of all you can enjoy here the nature and it is not so touristic compared with Bali. Prices are very attractive and the local people are very kind. We hired a driver for a couple of days and hé showed us really the historical/nature of this island too. We saw traditional villages, rise fields, traditional production area's, but also monkeys! With other words, very nice island for a nice short break.

Induk Beach

Desert Point

Reviewed By BossekM - Dortmund, Germany
