Shanghai Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Shanghai

October 18, 2017 Viva Honore

The largest city in China is also its most cosmopolitan, offering visitors a chance to experience the past, present, and future all at once. The Huangpu River splits Shanghai into two districts: Pudong and Puxi. The Pudong skyline looks like it was ripped from the Jetsons, with the bulbous Oriental Pearl TV and Radio Tower looking a bit like a two headed lollipop. On the Puxi side, you can walk the Bund riverside district to get a taste of old Shanghai.

As a business traveler who is on business trips 50% of her time, this is probably one of my favorite hotel breakfast restaurants. Excellent spread and gorgeous unbeatable views of Shanghai. I have an Asian palette so I am thoroughly thrilled with the delicious soup noodles, steamed pork bun, fried dough and soya milk, as well as various Chinese soups. The western counter though also has a decent spread of options. Service is prompt, thoughtful and polite - special mention to Helen who went out of her way to know the customers and to make their stay a comfortable one. Needless to say, I look forward to coming back again.

This dinner food can maintain a consistent standard, rich in materials, the next time will definitely patronize, and we sat by the window also saw the Huangpu River in Shanghai night, colorful, very satisfied.
In the meantime, the manager knows that we have to go to Disneyland and help us find a roadmap with more care.

Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet

Conceived by Paul Pairet for over 15 years and opened in May 2012, Ultraviolet is the first restaurant of its kind uniting food with multi-sensorial technologies in order to create a fully immersive dining experience. A single table of ten seats only. A dining room of high-end technology. A 20-course "Avant-Garde" set menu. All guests sit together. The experience unfolds as a play. Food leads. Each course is enhanced with its own taste-tailored atmosphere: lights, sounds, music, scents, projection, images and imagination... And food.

Visiting Ultraviolet, in Shanghai, is an unforgettable experience. Ultraviolet is not just a normal restaurant with good food, what they do and how they do it is well thought, mixing technology with tasteful recipes in a clever way makes this restaurant stand out. It has a secret location, that guests arrive in a van with the other 9 people being served. The dining room has screen walls, dry smell projectors, speakers, and screen projectors, which are all controlled in a control room. French chef, Paul Pairet’s idea and purpose and idea for this “is to unite food with multi-sensorial technologies to create an immersive dining experience,” (Fine Dining Lovers,) with a 20-course menu. The screens have animations projected that reflect the dish that is served, the odor of the room varies depending on the “theme” of the plate, and most of the time what the food looks like is not what it actually is “what looked like bread is actually lemon-flavoured meringue, the chocolate a foie gras praline.” The restaurant’s bizarre concept makes it unique and wonderful.

My husband and I after 14 days travelling and eating Chinese cuisine decide to change a bit for dinner! Trip advisor top 10 restaurants recommend this place. We arrived a little bit pass 9.45 and they were super easy to accommodate us considering they close at 10.30. Manager Ramazan was super welcoming and professional informing us kitchen timing but giving us enough space to take a look on the menu. Food all the food was so delicious. Best Mediterranean we had ever had. We order pita sample including lamb spinach and cheese and kebabs platter with vegetables. We Love the Lamb! So.well seasoned, so well cooked, simply delicious. In addition to add as an appetizer they bring you a fresh from oven to table loaf of bread and yogurt dip. All super delicious. We order 2 glasses of Chardonnay to go with our dinner and was pretty perfect. Last but not least, the dessert was amazing. Never had something like that before. Is not a baklava and we.do not remmeber.the correct name but is a warm dessert cheese inside and shredded wheat , takes 20 minutes to cooked and is from oven to chill to table. I am not usually a big fan of desserts but this one needs to be try by all the customers that go there. It's super good. Super nice experience will totally come back in a next stop in Shangai.
