had been avoiding SW food because I was travelling with Dad, but I was dying for a tamale. I had seen this on TripAdvisor, and went even though it was out of the way. I had the pork and green chile plate and Dad had the chicken. I think I was missing the green chile, but it still was delicious (Dad thought the chicken one was spicy), The pinto beans and Mexican slaw were both great and they have real ice tea. Good value too. If you are in the shopping mall part of town, this is a great option.Thank you so much for your feedback, Desertswim, and we're happy you went out of your way to come visit us! We're glad you enjoyed your tasty tamales, and we hope you'll visit us again the next time you're in the area.

Goyita's

I grew up near Santa Fe on great New Mexican food, a lot of it at hole-in-the-wall places. When I heard about Goyita's, I thought I might have found something like Tucson's delicious eastside Poco & Mom's. But lunch here was disappointing. The website warns that their chile is spicy. It wasn't. I ordered the chicken enchilada plate: flat, New Mexico-style. Right away I missed the crisp shredded lettuce and chopped tomato that usually tops a stack of enchiladas. Instead, the stack was bathed in a gritty white sauce that, I guessed, was made from flour... it detracted from whatever flavor the enchiladas had (which wasn't much). At least the beans seemed to be made in the traditional way, with lard.I was here mid-afternoon... maybe they didn't have their cook who makes lunch and dinner? I might try breakfast here when I'm headed north out of Tucson some day. Otherwise, it's back to Poco & Mom's -- which is much more what I expect from a New Mexican restaurant.PS: If you're hungry for New Mexican, Tucson has at least two Blake's Lotaburger locations. Their Lotaburgers with green chile are the same as I'd get back home... and they have the same killer breakfast burritos.

Our visit was a strange composite in that my wife had a very fine Original Benny as she likes it and we both enjoyed a tasty Prickly Pear Margarita. The waiter failed to submit my Taco order though and so my wife had finished her meal and was back out exploring while I continued to wait for my Tacos. When I finally received them I broke a tooth on my first bite. I don't blame Tohonu Chul for this part at least, but it thoroughly spoiled my experience. (I took Tacos home)

Stayed at the resort a few days. Our first morning we tried breakfast. We just weren’t impressed. Although seated quickly, we had to approach the hostess when we sat for at least ten minutes without being acknowledged. Then, one server made us feel like we were in the wrong. It was awkward. Maybe they’re just use to everyone ordering the buffet. We looked over the buffet, couldn’t see why the price is so high other than location. The selection was very basic. So we ordered from the menu. The Mr. had the bagel and smoked salmon with fixings. He was very pleased. I had an omelette which was ok, the hash browns were delicious. We went elsewhere the rest of our stay.

I'm surprised at the glowing reviews! Maybe we dined on an off-night? My husband and I were in Oro Valley for a week, and asked our hotel to recommend a good Mexican restaurant. We were told to try La Hacienda. They did seat us quickly, although our server was not very friendly. My husband ordered tacos and I asked for a side salad with a side of black beans and corn tortillas. The tacos were runny (lots of sauce of some kind) and he said they tasted like they used a powdered seasoning mix you get at the grocery store. They didn't look very appetizing, he didn't finish them, and it was around $12 for the plate. My salad was fine - small and very average - but was $7! The beans did not taste fresh at all and were overly salty. We've had wonderful, flavorful, fresh Mexican food at a fair price, but this was not it. We were extremely disappointed.Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience. I wish you would have asked to speak with me (GM) during your visit. We take great pide in our fresh food and impecable service. I apologize that you were disappointed. My husband is the chef and he makes everything from scratch, yet I know it’s human nature to make mistakes and something could have been not quite right, which I could have addressed and fixed in the kitchen that night. I will talk to my husband and kitchen staff to ensure that freshness and flavor are met. As far as your server not being very friendly, that is a problem because again we strive for great, friendly service. I’m disappointed myself that one of my staff members did not meet our expectations. I ask of you to please give us another chance to prove our greatness and live up to our reputation, if you travel to Oro Valley again. Thank you kindly, Lorena (the owner’s daughter and GM)
