Having used many of the restaurants around town 4 of us decided to go here for our penultimate night.Good location and should be a grand place to eat but Not bad as such but indifferent food, indifferent service, expensive starters so there are far better and cheaper places to be. The most expensive meal we had and we left with no tip as it was not deserved and went to a tapas bar opposite the local marina. Greeaatt ....

Casa Asmundo

Happened upon this great seafood restaurant by chance - it's been open for over 100 years - so must be doing something right! The atmosphere is simple, restrained, efficient and friendly - but the real star is the superb, simply cooked, fresh local sea food. There's a huge choice of sea food restaurants in this coastal area of Spain but I bet Casa Asmundo would be hard to better.Would definitely eat here again.

We have known of this hotel for a couple of years and it is fantastic being right on the beach..We decided, four of us, to go for dinner and booked a table on the terrace overlooking the sea. Good job we booked as the area soon filled. We got settled and ordered drinks and perused the menu, drinks arrived and in due course starters and mains were ordered.Although plenty of staff the service overall was indifferent as we had to ask for various things. Two ordered a meat dish and two the paella which followed in due course, the meats were declared good enough but the paella arrived with a flourish but instead of being placed upon a table for self service, as they would have wished it was quickly waiter served before he could be stopped which resulted in a eye pleasure being splossed upon plates. Even so "so be it" ..... on extraction the plate was sparse in sea food and the mussels unopen ... on calling the "maitre" he surprising said that they were closed and rushed to get a plate of uncooked to show them ... after "no no" .. etc the situation dawned upon him and he again rushed away returning quite soon with a dish of cooked and opened mussels .... the moment being lost they eat what they could and declined the remains. Puddings were then taked and the bill called for.The bill was for some 121 and notes to 140 were put ...this disappeared and did not return. The tip was ok but it would have been nice to have been given the opportunity to leave it as usual. The place is fab the rest you read .... the paella showed no comparison to that taken on a little local bar "on the front" , perhaps a bad time but leaves a not too good impression.

Musclarium

A close friend from Tortosa recommended us this restaurant and we went there to celebrate a birthday. To reach the Musclarium or you have your own boat or you need to pay 8 euros for the journey there, The place is great, being in the middle of the bay. However, the food is not at the same level. They offer a close menu of mussel, oysters, sea snails, shrimps, prawns and finally octopus. The first two are great but the quality of the rest is very low; it's really a pity because this could be a very special place.

We have eaten here several times over the years. Pleased to find that standards remain high. We had dinner twice, both times from the set menu of the day. The fish soup is particularly good as a starter: but every thing we chose was well cooked and good. The house wine also worthy of positive note. The room itself is a delight, old fashioned as is the couteous and professional service.Highly recommended.

Albert Guzman Restaurant

Reviewed By JLN64

Let’s start with the positives. The food is amazing! The cooking is to a very high standard and, some dishes at Michelin-star level, with great presentation and some wonderfully creative cooking. For this standard of cooking the prices are reasonable. The chef, Albert Guzman, seems a thoroughly nice man, who manages to find the time to speak with his guests, which is really appreciated. However, the quality of the food is not matched by the quality of the setting and the standard of the service. The restaurant sits on the ground floor of an apartment holiday block with 6 or 7 floors above set back from and with no view of the beach. The outside tables were plastic and it was very hot. The outside lights were too bright. Inside it was cooler, but overly light and soulless – awful. The wine selection was disappointing too with odd choices that did not complement the food and no apparent expertise in helping us choose. This talented young chef deserves a better location and front of house support to match his undoubted skills.

Can Batiste

In Delta de l'Ebre (the most impotant natural lands in de catalan litoral), there are several restaurants where you can eat nice traditional meals. But in Can Batiste you can find traditional products from the area, cooked in a very modern way. Fish, seafood, 'paella', everything is tasty. They have a large menu of wines and the service is excellent. The restaurant is not in the seafront, has not nice views from the dinning room, but it doesn't matter if you are a real foodie.

The "Menu Turistic" was advertised on a board outside at €20 per person. We hadn't booked but there was availability for a late lunch in their outside pavilion-type room with sea views. We started with a large green salad to share, served with the lightest toasted bread I've ever tasted and aioli, followed by hot steamed mussels, a seafood paella, desserts of crema catalana and "flan". Wine was included - the white, in particular, was delicious - and coffees were too.We only had two minor gripes;1. The paella arrived and was placed next to our table before we'd finished eating the mussels.2. As the menu was advertised at €20 and everything we had was included we were expecting the bill to be €40 for two but it was €44. IVA (tax) of 10% was added. As this is not an optional charge, why advertise it as a €20 menu when it costs €22? The meal was worth the higher price, but this practice is just irritating and unnecessary. Then when we paid by credit card the price was converted from euros to GBPs without consulting us. Not surprisingly the restaurant's bank converts at an unfavourable rate plus a commission charge, which my credit card wouldn't have done. Why do some restaurants do this without asking the customer if they want the bill converted to another currency? In the end the meal for two advertised at €40 costed €46, which wasn't what we expected.I have given this restaurant 5 stars based on the food and service (other than the mistimed paella) alone. Thanks for your evaluation, it helps us improve day by day. For our part we always charge in the currency that the client tells us. Bank commissions suffered a lot.
