Top 10 Lodges in Queensland, Australia

May 1, 2023 Rosalyn Ihle

Some of Queensland’s most remarkable sights require you to leave terra firma. Off its coast sits the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef. Snorkel and scuba among 1500 resident fish species, or sail through the Whitsundays’ white-sand atolls. Back on dry land, you’ll find tropical escapes in the Daintree Rainforest to the north, rugged outback to the west and alfresco dining on the Gold Coast in the south. South East Queensland boasts mountain views, vineyards and ‘river city’ Brisbane.

Everything we hoped it would be and more. All the extra details such as being walked to our villa, provided a map & talked through the highlights, fresh milk in the fridge, quality soaps & eco friendly items throughout. The villas are secluded and the cafe on site is wonderful with lovely staff and amazing homemade cakes & meals. The villa is immaculate, the gardens make you feel like you are in another country. We can’t wait to come back in summer to enjoy the pool. Thanks for a perfect few days.

This was our first visit here, for a wedding. We stayed in a premier room while friends with families had lodges. Both levels of accommodation provided everything you would expect. Next visit we thought we might try the spa room, the one next to us also had a private fire pit. The buffet breakfast in the Rainforest Restaurant allowed me to severely overeat! Lunch from the kiosk was delicious as well.

We recently had a one night stay in one of the queen rooms. My major issue (which security is pretty important to me), when I originally checked in, I was only provided one room card which is totally fine. On our way out that night, my partner approached the reception area which was being manned by a different staff member who completed check in. My partner simply asked for an extra key to room X and was handed over a card with no questioning as to his ID or any details of booking. Annoyingly, once this second card was issued, the original card stopped working. I thought this was very poor given a room key was handed out to our room without even checking who was asking for it! The room itself was fine. There was some damage to the roof in our room that he been poorly painted over, but no biggie. The bed itself was comfortable but pillows were terrible and no spares provided in the room. It was so uncomfortable I considered driving home at 1am. The shared bathrooms are fine. Close to rooms and were clean. The tapware in two different showers fell off in my hand whilst I was showering. The bar staff downstairs were fairly rude when we arrived back late to ask how time the kitchen closed - there is much better options to eat nearby anyway. Overall, given its location, I think this place has some good potential if it was ran properly. Given it is owned by ALH Group, I'm assuming they are waiting to knock it down and put large apartments on it in the future.

Great Location

A secluded spot in a beautiful part of the world. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the experience. Pros: nice welcome, lovely grounds, good restaurant with great food, happy hour, nice breakfast included in the price, bug spray in the room, no wifi or mobile reception. Cons: rooms are tired, room lighting not great, mosquito's the size of houses and plenty of them, no phone/wifi, thin walls (we could hear our neighbours TV very clearly). We enjoyed our stay in the rainforest and knew in advance that the tropical mozzies and the damp would be present no matter where we stayed. The staff were lovely. I'd recommend the Lodge as long as you don't expect the Hilton.

The bbq area was well kept and clean, it has a small lake next to it where you can see turtles and fishes. Laundry room was big and they have a lot of space to hang the laundry outside. Staff was super nice and helpful, they did me the favour of printing some personal documents I needed. Nice location, walking distance to the beach. Will come back for sure!
