Top 10 hotels in Tasmania, Australia

August 11, 2022 Rosalyn Ihle

Off Australia’s South Coast you’ll find the rugged and beautiful island of Tasmania — a unique destination where you can see Tasmanian devils, walk in the wilderness, take in stunning eco-cruises, taste artisanal cheeses and even explore a controversial art museum. The best way to see it? Take the back roads, but allow plenty of time: A short drive in any direction can lead to wineries, distilleries, marine farms, convict settlements, pristine beaches, fields of lavender and national parks…

What a brilliant hotel. It’s been beautifully designed. Absolutely by far the best en-suite bathroom I’ve seen in a hotel for many years. Huge room which felt extremely comfortable. And just loved the bed. I wish I could buy one of the robes provided by this hotel. I definitely recommend they sell them.

Vibe Hotel Hobart

Eat. Play. Stay. Repeat. A stay in Hobart is a study in avant-garde culture, Australia’s natural flora and fauna, and Tasmania’s colonial history. Here, time slows, locals take the time to say g’day, and food appears from paddock to plate as if by magic. Of all the hotels in Hobart, none is better placed to deliver an ‘eat’, ‘play’ and ‘stay’ experience than Vibe. Situated in the heart of historical Hobart, this brand-new hotel embraces the Australian lifestyle to the full. The architecturally-designed facade - with its trademark coloured feature fins – has transformed Hobart’s skyline. Hospitality envelops you from the minute you walk in and the smallest of details have been thought of. Inspiration for the contemporary-style hotel rooms, for instance, was taken from the sea and sandstone cliffs on nearby Bruny Island. Inside, all bedroom furniture has been sourced from local Tasmanian oak and lovingly made by local craftsman. Custom lamps will shine the light on a great stay and an even better night’s sleep in a comfy Dreamcatcher bed. Whilst an onsite gym and heated pool ensure you get your fitness fix during those famous Tasmanian winters. For those in town on business, the hotel offers incredible food and state-of-the art conferencing. The State and Federal government departments and some of Hobart's largest corporate premises and hospitals are great locations for business travellers. So too, the heart of the city, Mount Wellington, the Salamanca Markets, and the city’s wine bars and art galleries are close by. And Hobart’s International Airport is just a short drive.

Not always feeling the Vibe

Reviewed By davidskewes

Overall we were not unhappy, the room was clean and the motel in new. Reception staff were great, but dining and drinks staff seemed to be preoccupied doing other things rather than providing service to patrons. It might not bother most people, but I want a sleep timer on the TV, which they don't have.

Can't rate the hotel and the staff high enough

After COVID changed our travel plans several times for my 60th Birthday celebration, we ended up travelling to Launceston and staying at this wonderful hotel. There were 26 of us in the group and I have to say the staff went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was excellent - we had a welcome function on the night of our arrival, breakfast some days and the coffee was particularly good (we certainly needed that after some celebratory nights). The accommodation is industrial chic which created a lovely ambience in which to stay and was extremely comfortable. Bonus on Saturday mornings are the farmers markets right next door and being a walkable city, everything is only a few minutes away from the hotel. We all agreed what a fabulous time we had at the Verge and will definitely stay here again when we come to Lonny.

Nice enough for a meeting

Reviewed By wombatdavid

I attended a meeting here in one of the Level 1 rooms. The room has a traditional feel and had a good quality TV screen for casting images and presentations. Power board provided on the side of the room but not available at tables which could be an issue. The service was great - friendly and plates/tea cups etc cleaned up fast; morning tea tasty - freshly baked cheese scones. The lunch was underwhelming as it was very average sandwiches and a fruit plate.
