Long weekend - four couples

We found the bedrooms clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful. Great value for money, off road parking and short walk to charming small town with shops and good restaurants. Perfect for a long weekend flying into La Rochelle from Stansted Thurs evening to Sunday afternoon. It's possible to self-cater and economise.

They made us sleep in car

Reviewed By nadinesM6796UD

We booked a holiday at Camping St Trojan les Bains near this park Our booking was changed to Camping Oléron Loisirs When we arrived on 8th August after driving for 10 hours we were told that our booking had been cancelled by maeva administration. We were told to find a hotel for the night. We searched for hours on the internet and stopped by hotels on the journey from UK. We could not find any accommodation as it was a very busy weekend We were not told about the cancelled booking until 18.00. Eventually we slept in the car; 2 adults and 3 children. In the morning of the 9th we talked to reception. We were told not to arrive before 10.00 am as would be no-one there Eventually we were given accommodation around 13.00. This accommodation was not owned/leased by Maeva. 2 days later we were forced to move out of this accommodation and move into another. This meant we had to pack and unpack again and lost another days holiday. We were told at the camping site that someone from Maeva would be in touch with us. NOBODY HAS ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT US We complained massively at the camping site and are very surprised and disappointed that no body has tried to contact us

Not a fan

I had high hopes for this place but was left feeling disappointed. We booked to stay 6 nights but left after 5 but this was mainly due to the fact we decided to book a 1 night stop over further north so the drive to the ferry wasn't so long. We were camping in our campervan, the pitch is sandy and there is lots of ants. The toilet block was most of the time kept clean but it was rather frustrating that although masks were required nobody wore them and none of the staff were enforcing this. The drinking water stations were spread out amongst the campsite so had a little walk to these, I would invest in a water carrier to make this easier as we didn't have one and had to walk back and forth everyday to fill up bottles. There is no local bins to the pitches so you have to carry your rubbish through the bar/restaurant area, to the far corner of the car park to dispose of it! Why not have bin areas near to the pitches!? You are given a gate code for the barrier on arrival to get in and out of the campsite, this worked some days and not others so you was stuck in or out if it decided not to work! We was the only English on site and although I don't mind this, we felt it was sadly just was geared up for the French and made the atmosphere unwelcoming. My daughter tried to make friends but with great difficulty. The campsite with the right atmosphere has the potential to be good, the splash park pool area is really good and kept spotless and the park is really good for the kids.

Nice place, near the sandy/rocky beach! The people are very kind. Take your bike (or rent one) and have a look all over Ile d’Oléron! Toilets are clean, showers always hot. Pitches are big. Mostly French and German visitors on the campsite and a few Dutch.

Make sure you book the type of room you really want

Reviewed By Barbara G

I am reviewing a room with shared showers and toilet. Let me start with telling you that I made a mistake when booking the room. I didn't realize we had to share the toilet and showers that were located down the hallway. I believe they have different types of rooms, so make sure you book the room you want. The place is very clean, well kept, staff was friendly. They make the most of a place that definitely has a barracks, boarding school feel to it. It was simple but totally Ok and they have a little garden in the back that the guests can use. Parking is right in front of the house on the premises. A nice beach (l'ileau) is not far by car. Shopping facilities are also close by.

Perfect stay

Reviewed By lorraine a

We have just spent 2 nights at this hotel on the recommendation of friends - and they were right! We were welcomed by one of the owners and she gave us a comprehensive guide to the island, in French, but slowly and clearly enough for me to understand! The room was on the ground floor, and although small was perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. Being out of season, many restaurants were closed, but that worked to our advantage as we ate in their superb restaurant on both nights. The delightful young waitress greeted us with a smile, and both the waiter and the owner were attentive and helpful. And the food - absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. An excellent wine list too. We enjoyed a bottle of wine sitting on the terrace watching the moored boats appear and disappear on the tidal canal! Traditional continental breakfast. The husband speaks excellent English but also allowed me to practise my shaky French! Altogether an excellent stay.

Not a Hotel but instead Restauraunt Review

I could find the site for the restaurant review but wanted to comment anyway. We did not stay at the hotel however, we did reserve a table one night and had one of the best meals ever here. The French melt cheese like nobody else in the world and this place is does an excellent job. A bowl of fresh boiled potatoes smothered in melted cheese with delicious cold cuts is my new favorite dish. Make a reservation to eat here, you won't be disappointed. The staff was super friendly as well.

Pleasant quiet camp site. Pitches are medium sized. Some of the roads to them could do with up grading as they get a little messy after rain. Motorhome service point is in need of an upgrade. Sanitary block is excellent and looks new. Only problem it is a long walk to it from most of the pitches. Nice swimming pool. Supermarket and beach are both within 2 miles. Staff at reception are efficient and friendly. Would recommend and would come again.
