Nice little hotel outside of old town

Reviewed By MariaDavidRobinson

Stayed just one night to break up a long road trip so didn't really sample hotel's facilities or food. Rooms nice and modern with nice bathrooms. Beds very comfy. Our room had a little balcony which you could stand on (but not sit). About 5-6 parking spaces in hotel car park, but plenty of on-street parking right outside the hotel. The old town is a very steep walk from the hotel, but we drove and there is a large free car park on edge of old town. However there are also several eating establishments close by. Note the reception closes at 9pm, so if you are going to be later than that you need to notify them (Expedia say 7:30pm - this is incorrect)

Good hotel, great location

Reviewed By Ian14_11

This hotel is in the centre of St Flour, really well positioned. We stopped for a night on our way to Spain. You cannot drive to the hotel, so don’t follow the car's GPS all the way, but park up and find the hotel on foot. They have a nice garage that we came across by accident weaving around the tiny streets! It is round the back of the hotel, down a small alley to the side. The room was a pretty good size, and the bathroom had a tub, which was a very nice surprise. The decor was in good order in both bedroom and ensuite, and the bed was comfortable (standard foam pillows though!). The room has an old fashioned (heavy) key which is unusual nowadays! The hotel has a bar with a terrace on the street and we had a couple of beers there in the evening sun. All the restaurants in town are a short walk away. We did not have breakfast, so cannot comment. The welcome was pleasant, and all round I can recommend this as a good place to stay in St Flour.

Friendly and helpful.

I have nothing but good to say about this hotel. It is centrally located, the room was spacious, comfy, and quiet, the food was great, and the owner could not have been more helpful. I was really poorly and should not have been touring France on a motorbike, but was assured that if I was too ill to continue we would work out a way for me to leave the bike and get home. Just knowing that was a great help to me. I got to my destination in southern France. Motorbike parking was secure; very important to me. The town itself is lovely and very interesting, full of history and wonderful old architecture. I would love to go back to Saint-Flour, and next time I will stay for a while longer. And I will definitely be staying at the Hotel Restaurant du Pont-Vieux. I highly recommend it to other travellers.

Clean but basic

Reviewed By CalAndy1

We stopped here for just one night whilst journeying further south. The room was clean but very very basic. The bed was comfortable and the shower fine. However the immediate impression of the room was somewhat marred by the curtain partially hanging off the rail. To get to the bedroom we had to bring our belongings through the restaurant past/through the toilet area and up three flights of stairs along a very gloomy corridor and stairwell. Breakfast was very ordinary; coffee, orange juice, croissant and baguette with a small selection of packet butter, conserve, honey and hazelnut spread. Would not consider returning again.

Fantastic!

Reviewed By minxcat

Was travelling via motorbike, had to abort our original route as the weather was closing in on us and we were getting colder and colder. Was getting to desperation point of finding somewhere, stopped and asked a local who pointed us in the direction of Les Messageries. It was a welcome sight in the snow! I ran in to reception dripping wet and shivering and was welcomed by the lady owner (who also happened to be a motorcyclist), who totally understood our plight! She quickly opened their private garage for us to park the bike up, and welcomed us into her hotel. She had rooms available, but thoughtfully offered us one with a large spa bath in order for us to have a soak and warm up! The room was lovely, just what we needed after a long day's ride. Very comfortable, lots of nice touches - tea and coffee facilities, biscuits, water etc. We booked a table and stayed here for dinner. Lovely menu, large choice, helpful friendly waiter who spoke good English. We were well looked after. Had a brandy at the bar after dinner, purely medicinal and to ensure that we were totally warmed through! Had a great night's sleep. Very quiet and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful with the motorbike, would definitely recommend to any motorcyclists looking for a little bit of luxury.
