We had just driven from Dunkirque and we were all ready for food and then bed. We did not want a full resturant meal and walked into town and plumped for Brasserie Le Gallia. All three generations of the same family opted for the steak hashe and all decided it was one of the best beef burgers we had eaten in a long while. I recommend this eatery.

17 May 2014 - We went on spec and got a table. The restaurant was very busy on both levels and we had to ask several times to get the waitress to take our order. We had steaks and salad and they were very good and our neighbourâs pizzas looked good as well. The restaurant is very popular with locals and there was not quite enough room between tables with so much coming and going, everyone seemed to be getting bumped by staff and customers. Food was good but at â¬41.40 for two people we would have expected a little more space and get our order taken in under 25 minutes. The restaurant has a wide selection of photos many quirky based on rugby.

Finding somewhere to eat on a Monday presented us with few choices. This restaurant certainly did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food arrived promptly and was plentiful. The burgers and salads are recommended and the beer is good! If you are lucky enough to have a seat facing the huge panoramic window, this place is a must, particularly if you are visiting Saint-Flour on a Monday.

Two small beers, two courses, two coffees, two people - less then â¬30. And the food was very good - can't fault it. My only observation is that my receipt says: Bar "Les Arcades" Hotel Restaurant "Les Roches" - I didn't actually see the name Les Arcaroches anywhere - definitely the same place though as it has the same address. And it's just opposite the cathedral, which I guess most visitors to St Flour will be going to see, so very convenient.

We ordered the Terrine to share which had been microwaved and was still hot and resembled bread pudding with prunes stuck in and smelt like tomato soup, we complained as the taste was awful, when I asked for more bread I got 2 stale slices, the manageress was furious with us and quite rude, however, our second course, of duck was ok. We also had a bottle of wine which was good. When the bill arrived the Terrine had not been deducted so we subtracted the amount, and were happy to pay for the rest of the meal, with that the manageress came to our table and tore it up and shouted at us to get out!! This is the Vichy area of France and they don't like the English....

The outside décor didn't look very enticing: it's neither charming old, nor interesting modern, but we were very hungry. Inside a rather perplexing mix of styles, but a menu that caught our attention with its mix of classics (like aligot) and new twists (like lamb confit cooked with figs). The cheese board was like something I would imagine in my version of heaven: lovingly taken care-of cheeses, most local. Very personal attentive service and reasonable prices. In a way, for me the crowning glory of the meal was with coffee they brought cannelé cakes, the best I have ever eaten, and HOME-MADE MARSHMALLOWS! Perfectly-formed strawberry and mint. Wow. Worth a stop just for that, but everything else was great. I admire them, trying so hard in an old French tradition, in the face of increasing mediocrity in French food. While you're here, take a detour into the old part of town which is majestic and very evocative of times gone by, a bit down but not out.

This was my second visit here, following an amazing lunch earlier in the year. On this occasion the food was equally amazing, the service perfect, and the ambience welcoming. I would recommend this restaurant to any traveler passing through the region. I canât remember the names of the two dishes I have pictured but my god they were good.

Going out in the night in Saint Flour, you have not many possibilities. A loud and a little old-fashioned pub and some small (traditional or italian restautant, some fast food opportunities) But the "folie des sens" is an exeption in style, products and persentation of food. We have cosen the menu "sens" becuase of the regional aspects of the food. So we found the typical pastry "pountie" and one "bleu d'auvergne" in one firts course and a goats white cheese and fresh vegetables in the other. Both were presentatet at a very high level and it was a pleasure seeing the dishes arrive. In the main course I tried the typic white lentils with porc meat. It also tasted brilliant and came like a small round surprise at the table. My wife had the surf and turf variation with "crevettes" and "chorizo" togethe with a an aubergine-ravioli. Also a tasty variation.Followed by four typical cheeses from the auvergne and sweet and perfect combined dessert. We had a brilliant evening for a really low price.

What a great find, we stopped for lunch here on the way to Toulouse, had the Steak Tartare, best I had in France, absolutely delicious, my wife had the Fish, very fresh. Great selection of cheese and deserts to finish a great meal.
