Top 10 hotels in L'Alpe d'Huez, France

August 9, 2022 Mollie Coke

One of the most heart-pumping stretches of the Tour de France is always the 21 hairpin curves at L'Alpe d'Huez. Doesn’t sound so hard? They bike up the mountain. Every summer, hundreds of amateur cyclists flock to this resort in the French Alps and make the same climb. It’s more famous as a warm-weather destination, but L'Alpe d'Huez is also one of Europe’s top ski destinations. The nearby slopes appeal to beginners, but they get more challenging a bit farther away. More experienced skiers and snowboarders can literally travel for miles on some of the most challenging runs. And there are plenty of off-piste areas, too.

Amazing stay at the hotel. Great rooms and service. One thing I must mention is a lady by the name of Charlene She is the manager of the Hotel.I must say that she is very professional and experienced obviously when dealing with on going problems which I think almost every hotel has. I requested a service during my stay that the hotel does not provide normally and she accommodated me. All I can say is that I will definitely return to La Pic Blanc . Thank you Charlene❤️

Great Hotel

Good location in Alpe d'Huez. The only negative aspect is the refrigerators are small and do not work well. I even had mine changed and they barely kept the contents below room temp. Other than that inconvenience, I would stay there again.

Fabulous stay

Reviewed By SWSW4

We loved PopAlp! It's obviously really new and feels very fresh and clean. The art on the walls is fab - our room was adorned with goats! Breakfast was varied & plentiful. The hotel is easy to find, and just 1 min from the "lobster pot" lift which takes you straight to the bottom of the DMC, or 2 mins from the Alpe Express to take you to Bergers. Well equipped ski room with heated lockers. Loads of lovely restaurants within minutes - we'd recommend booking though as they all get very busy! Highly recommended.

Wonderful hotel

Reviewed By loueeze2013

We’ve just completed our stay at the Hotel Chamois d’or. From the start we were warmly welcomed by the staff who came out to greet us at the car when we arrived. We had a family room where the kids had their own room with en-suite and bunk beds. Our bathroom had a bath. The bedding is sumptuous and we also had a sunny balcony. We stayed half board and the evening five course meal was always stunning! It is a ski out, ski in hotel right at the start of the piste closest to the les Jeux and DMC lifts. Easy to use ski room although the boot warmers weren’t working. Also a gorgeous swimming pool with steam room and sauna. We’ll definitely visit again! Thank you to all the staff :)

Lovely friendly hotel

Reviewed By Mike E

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. From the initial welcome to the minute we left, the staff could not have done more to help us. The hotel is very close to the bottom of the Grand Sure Lift which we used to start our day most days. It's a little more tricky to 'ski in' to the hotel with a snowboard, but we used the free shuttle bus to return each day from the slopes. There is a free shuttle bus stop (Castillan) pretty much right outside the hotel taking you to and from the center of town, and also the telecenter cage lift within 5 minutes walk. The hotel was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was brilliant with options for the kids.

Decent place

Reviewed By jasonbB8072YF

Just spent a week here with another family. For the money we thought it ticked a lot of boxes. Not far from slopes or shops , warm pool that the kids liked, rooms are basic but serve the purpose, breakfast is fine , can fill up before the day on the slopes. We upgraded to half board which was a good decision as it’s great value and really good food. Service by the staff was fantastic, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or revisit this accommodation

Fawlty Towers

Can't understand why everyone is advising this is a great place to stay? From the minute we arrived we received nothing but attitude from the owner. We specifically contacted them prior to arrival to request we would receive dinner and advised them that our bus was stuck in traffic and we would be late yet when we arrived the owner denied all knowledge of our correspondence. The room was very basic but a decent size (could do with a bit of upgrading). On day 3 the woman "told me off" as apparently I had refused the cleaners entry in to our room. Rooms do not need cleaned every day! The breakfast is the same as all other hotels and dinner was ok. The ski room is a very smelly small room which is locked and unlocked from reception so tough luck if there is no-one at reception and it is extremely annoying when the door closes and locks every time you go in and out. The only good thing about this hotel is the location as it is right beside the slopes.

Since 1955, the Castillan family have been your hosts, featuring the same quality service... In the pure tradition of this hotel passed on from father to son, Julien and his wife Stéphanie have taken up the torch... Excellent family run hotel

Very much enjoyed a six night late season stay at Le Castillan. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were on half-board and the meals were top quality; the lack of choice was an accceptable price to pay for this. The hotel is about 30m from a piste giving access to a chair that gets you into the main lift system. If you are wiling to run the gauntlet of window tapping, you can ski to the edge of a car park 60m from the hotel. We had a happy experience renting skis from Alain Sports just under the hotel

Lovely hotel in great location

Reviewed By Craig H

Located just near ski lifts and virtually ski in, ski out. Ideally situated for ski hire, and restaurants. Seems to have been recently refreshed with a nice reception area. Breakfast was continental but excellent with a wide variety of cereals, cheese, bread, ham eggs etc. etc. Staff were great and our room was large with good storage. Heated boot room inside and ski store at side of hotel Only criticism was the steps leading up to the hotel were not cleared of snow/ice and a little treacherous in ski boots.

Tomorrowland Winter Vacation

Reviewed By Claudia C

We stayed in the 704 room, it was nice and comfy, it had 2 floors and a terrace with beautiful view. One floor had a bathroom and sofa bed and the other a double bed and complete bathroom with jacuzzi. It had a small fridge (though it was empty, no mini bar in room service) and an electric jar to prepare tea or coffee. There was a pool, but we didn't use it. Breakfast was good, we didn't try the restaurant. There were good lockers for ski equipment. The hotel was well located, next to restaurants, stores, and to the bus stop that took you around. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a beautiful stay.
