The Pousada da Serra da Estrela is located inside the Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela, in Covilhã. Inside the building, the walls are pristine white, the ceilings are high and the traditional tiles are original and have been restored. You will also see fabulous old iron-and-wood elevators. Visit this work of the renowned architect Souto Moura, who restored the main structure of the old Serra da Estrela sanctuary. Reviewed By paulolisbI had stayed at this Pousada in 2015, a mere one year after it opened, and my impressions of my short 3 nights stay were excellent. I repeated the experience this month, again for a short stay during the week, and, again, I had a most wonderful time. Excellent location, peace and quiet, large, comfortable room with a great bed, great attentive and friendly service (from housekeeping to management), great food (I recommend the very regional 'arroz de zimbro'!). And, of course, all this in a superbly refurbished, repurposed building (if you love Architecture, then this is a 'must see' and surely a 'must stay'). I definitely won't wait another 7 years to repeat the experience. Kudos to everybody and thank you!

Reviewed By Marina NThe theme of the Hotel, related to the area, Wool is noted in many details around the hotel as in the room. I truly recommend the Wool Massage, specialty of the SPA. The Chef is amazing: not only the taste but also the beauty of the dishes of the a la carte menu are amazing. Buffet is also great. Staff is very kind and I felt very safe with all the attention to the COVID protocols.

Reviewed By Gillian SWe spent a couple of nights here for our wedding anniversary and booked their best room 'a suite'. It's in a lovely spot, right by the river and within easy walking distance of the town and several good restaurants. The hotel is very nicely converted keeping many original features, including the beautiful chapel. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Buffet breakfast was served in the lovely cloister, and was very good indeed on the first morning. Due to the hotel being quiet on the second morning we were given a list of buffet items and asked to chose. Those were all then served to our table, which I thought was an excellent idea. The orange juice was fresh and the cakes home made and much better than normal Portuguese cake, of which I'm not a fan. The pool is small and shallow and situated in something of a wind tunnel, but is probably nice for a dip when it's very hot, which is wasn't for us. I think the only area where the Convento is a bit of a let down is the room. The 'suite' is simply a room with a wardrobe divider and a rather uncomfortable sofa and 2 padded dining chairs. I did see this in the photo so wasn't overly surprised. It's not somewhere you could sit and watch TV if your partner was sleeping - just far too much of a shared area. I think the seating needs to be replaced with a couple of comfortable armchairs at least. Partitioning the seating area off could be possible. Plus normally when you book at suite you get a few extras to make it a bit special, plus it was our anniversary which they did know. But there was nothing outside the bottle of water. Still none of that really compromised our enjoyment of staying here and it's within a reasonable driving distance of some of the loveliest Schist villages which are well worth a visit.

The landscape is beautiful and should be unforgettable if you have the luck to visit the hotel with snow. The swimming pools are very good, mainly the possibility to use outside swimming pool with hot water. The massages, rituals, sauna and other activities makes the hotel a perfect place to relax. The restaurant has very good food, with a balanced diversity to assure that satisfies all the types of customers (and I think is possible to inform during the check-in any special requirement that we could have). The only point that makes me not give a perfect score was the breakfast that should have much more options of fruit and juices, even I could understand that the preference is to use local products but on January the use of local fruit is very poor.

Reviewed By marians242Fabulous setting with great amenities. The room was a bit small but nicely decorated, although the power points behind the bedside tables difficult to access. However, whoever designed the bathroom deserves to be shot! I wouldn't want to stay again for that reason.

Reviewed By spaulovaWe went in the high season, so its normal lots of guests, however it's not normal 1 employee in the breakfast area to all the service!!! Tables, room numbers, food replacement......and there were no artisan bread because the baker comes later on sundays!After I went to the front desk complain two more restaurant staff show up, but one of them had very unpleasant attitude. This is a wonderfull hotel, no questions about, the room, ( despite of the smell due to WC with no window or extractor) was confortable. Pool....... no long chairs for all the guests, and although the Hotel forbides chairs reservations, the lake of education of some Hotel guests is there. The wood chairs by the pool and in the pool bar area, are old, not confortable and some are falling apart. SPA is very simple, there are no resident therapist,and because she works in others places they have to call and the hours are very limited. I saw strange people enter in the hotel ( 3 scouts), and in the pool area since there is no wall or fences I saw people passing through the bushes to see the pool, so there were no privacy. If we come back.......maybe...... but the management needs to improve a lot, there are to many details to be amended.
