What a great location! We were able to walk to many of Lisbon’s wonderful restaurants, shops, museums and parks. The rooms were clean, spacious, artfully decorated and cosmopolitan. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of fruit, pastries, excellent coffee and more. The staff was helpful with recommendations. We will definitely return to Casa Balthazar!

Exceptional place to stay

I was traveling to Lisbon with 7month old baby and was a bit nervous about accommodation but I should admit that everything was exceptionally clean, room was nice, with balcony, Manuel and Ana were very hospitable. Explained us everything. Especially where to hop on in famous yellow tram to get some free seats. Transport is easily accessible from the accommodation, breakfast was very nice always with fresh bread and croissants. There is elevator so if you have baby buggy it’s no problem to take it all the way up to the 4th floor. They also have high chair, some board games, nice living room where guests can gather. Overall I highly recommend the place.

Do not stay there! Bugs in the room and in the bathroom

Reviewed By tha_sa683

This is sad, but unfortunately true: I booked my stay in Tesouro da Baixa for 2 nights in Booking.com. The staff for check in and check out was super nice and welcoming, the room number 601 looked realy nice and well decorated. However, to my unfortunate surprise, I found 2 bugs - 1 in the bathroom and another one on the right side of my bed, in the wall!!! The bug is known as "peixinho da prata" in Portugal. I reported the issue to the hotel reception in the morning after, during my check out. After checking out, I communicate myself with the hotel by email to see what could be done for me as a compensation as I had paid a lot of money to stay in a room that is obviously not clean!!! This cannot happen in this type of accomodations. The hotel made an offer by email that was not interesting for me and I declined it. After that, to avoid receiving bad online review from my side, the hotel did a move that I was honestly not expecting: they marked my stay as a no-show in Booking.com with the single purpose of avoiding a bad but true review from my side!!! They are aware I stayed there, but they prefered to lie to Booking.com - what a move. I do not reccomend at all this hotel - they have bugs in the room, they lie to Booking.com and to be honest overpriced!!! Do not stay there.

Not luxury but highly recommend

Not sure what the recent one star review is about. This is a guesthouse-not a hotel. So no- there's no room service. If you need something, ask. We had a fabulous stay. Is it luxury? No. We found it to be clean, charming, helpful staff, good basic breakfast, great location. Our room was on the top floor - Azulejo. Not for the weak for sure. 65 steps up!! And yes. Carry your own luggage. Our room was bright and airy. Wonderful view. See pics. Bathroom basic but appealing. Re location. Hundreds of restaurants just out the door. A taxi stand and train station. We walked nearly everywhere. Yes there is a small ethnic market out front. No one bugs you. It's not loud. Staff had suggestions for dinner, tours. Yes they leave at 3:30. Only thing that I wish I had known was that they communicate best through Whatsapp. Since that's not an app used much in the US, the critical information came via email the day before arrival. Which made me a bit anxious. The email gives you the code to get in, their Whatsapp info etc. I would stay again.

Villa Baixa - Lisbon Luxury Apartments

In a privileged setting, between a hill by São Jorge’s castle walls on the right, the splendid Santa Justa lift on the left and the nearby deep blue river Tagus, one comes across the Villa Baixa aparthotel. Discreet, with slightly austere yet elegant lines, like many buildings in the “Baixa Pombalina” (the downtown area that was re-built by the Marquis of Pombal, the kingdom’s Prime Minister, after the 1755 earthquake), Villa Baixa is engaging both for its historical surroundings and especially for its interiors which combine one of Portugal’s most beautiful traditions – tile work – with a contemporaneity displayed in sleek atmospheres, little details and a remarkable comfort to which the 21st century visitor is particularly sensitive.

Our travel agent selected Villa Biaxa based on her recent experience, and she was right. A fantastic small hotel/apartment right in the centre of all the activity of Biaxa (Old Town) at the beginning of summer. Tiago and the team provided a great front of house experience, the room we had was spacious, well appointed and modern. Will definitely stay here again if in Lisbon. Highly recommended.
