I have been eating lunch at Hot Wok Bistro for over 10 years. Their sister restaurant, Hot Wok Bistro Too in San Carlos is also excellent. The family that owns these restaurants is extremely friendly and service oriented, but most importantly, their food is delicious, healthy, and inexpensive! Lunch specials come with delicious hot and sour soup and steamed or fried rice. I usually get black bean shrimp or fish, vegetable stir-fry, or kung pao chicken. Highly recommended!

I have eaten here many, many times and it always seems like they are doing me favor by allowing me to eat there - the food kept getting more and more inconsistent even though they supposedly get fresh fish flown in daily - I'm not buying it - over cooked hamachi collar - over cooked fried calamari - over priced - varied staff that don't even know the menu - too many other places to go

Hanabi Ramen & Japanese Curry

Reviewed By TotalFoodSnob

My ramen was fantastic! Service was fast and friendly. It was not crowded, but I arrived at opening time on a weekday, so that may have been a factor. The bowl was prepared with exquisite detail, and every aspect worked perfectly together. Texture, temperature, taste, spice, and aroma did not disappoint. I highly recommend the ramen and expect that their other dishes are tasty as well. Be sure to have cash, as the sign said "cash only" -- may have been specific just to lunch though.

My wife and I don't live in the Bay Area, but we have eaten at Rangoon Ruby's a number of times during visits there (in various locations). This time, we dined at the Burlingame location, and this visit was not in the same league as the prior excellent experiences we had had. We asked for the food to be "medium" on the spicy scale, and we felt every dish lacked spice. Our waiter was friendly, but distracted, and I had to get up twice to get his attention. He was either folding napkins or chatting with the bartender, but it didn't seem he was being as attentive as he should have been.

Passed by signs several times on Old Bayshore Hwy. I looked up the place and it had good reviews so my family decided to try Mr. Teriyaki. Very pleased that we did. Big portions of Sashimi and fresh. A few had the Dinner Box aka Bento Box and it had good size portions. The Dinner Box box has several items to choose from. Gyoza, tempura, etc. Chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, etc. Too many choices to list. The rolls were really good. Try the Burlingame Roll and Wonder Woman Roll. SO GOOD! Price are very reasonable and portions are good size. Well worth it.

Sushi Sam's Edomata

Reviewed By DKFunTravels

Top of line sushi located in downtown San Mateo. Sitting at counter is best, where you can talk directly with Sam and see daily specials posted on the wall. Always very busy, so reservations are recommended. Always keep track of your orders, if you make multiple orders throughout your dining; staff does not give detailed bills. Environment is very basic, and a bit noisy. Sam's sushi has been always consistently excellent.

We ate at Mokutanya on a weeknight. I really like how the tables are divided by glass - we had a couple people in our party who are hard of hearing and this prevented a lot of background noise. The food was awesome! We ordered a variety of dishes and liked them all except the octopus in wasabi (slimy texture). The rice came after the meal and then we tried a couple of the delicious desserts. The location is in a strip mall - only downside was parking (there wasn’t any when we arrived). Bathroom is for all genders and has enclosed toilets (not stalls).Thank you! We are so happy we could make sure your whole party had a delicious meal. Glad you loved everyhting you tried, including our delicious desserts! We hope you'll be back for another wonderful visit soon.Best,Jason

There are a few Asian-influenced choices on the menu and I had the Spam and eggs. The Eggs Benedict my wife chose were superb - perfectly done! Some individual dishes are excellent, but they are very heavy and there is redundancy on the menu, with one appetizer showing up again as a side to the main dish. Service stunningly just okay. Not welcoming, timing off with multiple appetizers brought at once rather than paced, empty dishes lingering on the table, water glasses repeatedly not refilled. We were in no hurry at all and ordered in two parts, but the meal lasted an hour, and we thought well that was quick!. The timing was like in a neighborhood Chinese restaurant, not what you expect from a 1-Star restaurant. This is not a full evening out. Also, ambience completely unexciting. If you are plowing through the list of Michelin 1-stars in the Bay Area you will come to a jolt when you get to this one. I am not a harsh critic but these was really just not okay. Move to the next in your list.

Been here few times, but haven’t been back for a long time. Their menu is quite extensive, but if you read properly, a lot of their main dishes are the same with just a replacement for different meat/fish. For instance, Rangoon beef can also be ordered with Rangoon fish, lamb or chicken so don’t make a mistake by ordering Rangoon fish and Rangoon lamb together. Both are good but same taste except one is fish instead of meat. Overall it’s not bad, nothing special. One particular dish that is worth ordering is their fresh tempura roll which is pricey but good to try. Another dish is their pumpkin squash curry with chicken. The curry sauce with caffir leaves is delicious, but it comes with huge chunks of chicken with no taste. It’s like eating boiled chicken, thanks to the curry sauce, you can push the chicken aside and simply enjoy the sauce with its veggies. You can thank the caffir leaves for that!
