We just picked this lovely hotel by chance and had a great stay

Reviewed By Stuart N

A great hotel just five minute’s walk from the beach. We were early for check in but the lady on reception could not have been more helpful. We stashed our motorcycle kit and bags then went off to explore this beautiful beach side town. The hotel was very clean and showed its character in beautiful polished wood floors and paneling. A very smart and well run facility. We met some other English motorcyclists and joined them at dinner. American tourists at the next table helped with the menu and a party commenced. Super.

Basic accommodation but good location in old town

Reviewed By CHOManchester

The adage that you get what you pay for wasn't true on this occasion as we paid well over the odds for basic accommodation. We booked early in the year for three nights in June and agreed a price of €250 for the stay. The room was basically furnished and not very clean. I'd been aware that the hotel reception (very efficient and helpful) was in another building but had assumed that some sort of security card would be issued for the actual hotel - this wasn't the case and the front door was open to all with only a CCTV camera as a security measure. Zarautz itself wasn't what I was expecting, being very busy even in June. The wide promenade was lined with surf schools, cafes and not very attractive apartment blocks whereas the newer part of town resembled a Normandy resort. Surface parking was a problem and the hotel has an arrangement with the Indigo car park on Nafarroa Kalea for €10 per day instead of €20 (you pay the hotel reception which provides you with a card for an additional €20 deposit). However the reserved spaces are on floor -6 and all spaces are extremely tight as are the upward ramps. This was the last of six hotels we'd stayed in during our three week tour of northern Spain and was by far the worst. The weather during our trip was in the main awful, being cool and wet, so the basicness of this hotel was even more depressing.

Fine for Camino del Norte walkers

Reviewed By jeanfrombos2n

This hotel had all the things you need as a walker, but it could use an upgrade. The water pressure was so low that we used the toilets downstairs by the bar. The shower was tiny, but OK as we are not very big, and good hot water. An electrical outlet fell off the wall when we tried to connect to it. But the room was very quiet and on the back, and it had a small patio (although it was raining so we didn't use it). The breakfast was great, served in the bar, with lots of choices. The staff was fine.

Solid Value One Block from Ocean

Clean hotel, friendly and helpful reception. Great value. From room 113, you get a balcony AND a slight view of the ocean. Close to old town bars. When the receptionist learned that we were leaving too early to get breakfast, she made my wife and I to-go packages and left them for us on the front desk.

Ideal for a claustrophobic stay, without windows, air or staff around!

Reviewed By Sascha G

Cleanliness is definitely there. Also the location is good, within a short walking distance from the town centre and the beach. Also, the beds are good quality. The negatives far outweigh the positives, though: There is only staffing between 8 am and 1.30 pm, then you cannot get in touch with anyone. We called at 7 pm to advise we would be arriving late that night but nobody was there to pick up the phone. The check-in is through a machine, which is highly annoying. If one loses the reservation number, that's it, you are locked out from the propery and no one is there to let you in or to be contacted. The worst part was the absence of proper windows! There are only light bricks exactly as in a high security prison. Also the windows can only be opened minimally and, therefore, if one does not like air conditioning, the room is stuffy and claustrophobic. Also, as there no humans around, the printed sheet from the dull machine at check-in left out a digit of the password at the end and, therefore, WiFi was unusable! An awful experience, do NOT go there!!!!

Como en casa

Reviewed By Cabila0

Plain But Adequate

Reviewed By Jane E

The hotel is on a main street one block from the sea front promenade which is obviously a prime spot. There is also a supermarket quite close by. The receptionist spoke a little English which was helpful. The building and rooms are old fashioned and a bit tired and scuffed but everything looked clean. There was a lift which is not always provided in small Spanish hotels and was much appreciated with a heavy bag. My room was a good size with a separate entry foyer that helped make it look more spacious. It had twin beds and the one that I slept in was comfortable. The bathroom was big with a shower over a tub. The room was on the side and a bit dark except for a period in the afternoon when the sun hit the window directly. The wifi was dreadful. It connected occasionally but only for a short period before dropping out again and mostly didn’t work at all. Everything was quiet until very late at night – more likely early in the morning – when there were a series of very noisy revelers returning from the promenade bars. They were outside the hotel not inside but loitered in the street singing. Not the hotel’s fault but it made for a disturbed night’s sleep. Overall, this is a well-priced and clean hotel, nothing fancy but quite acceptable for a short stay if wifi is not an important asset.
