The best available hotels & places to stay near Laughlin

July 15, 2022 Jana Sager

Hit the casinos, watch big-name entertainment and stay at a themed hotel. Las Vegas? No, but this small gambling town on the banks of the Colorado River offers a taste of Vegas minus the glitz, traffic and high costs. Plus, there's much to do here besides gambling. Not only does Laughlin have the Colorado River for boating, swimming, fishing, waterskiing and other sports, but it also has gorgeous Lake Mohave offering much of the same on a grander scale. Golfers will enjoy beautiful courses where reasonable green fees stretch their dollars. For a taste of the Wild West, head to nearby 100-year-old Oatman, where you can catch a mock gunfight and guzzle beer in an old-time saloon. Hiking, anyone? Grapevine Canyon awaits you, famous for the Indian markings - some 800 years old - carved into its boulders. If the slots are calling, you'll find plenty of gaming houses, with water shuttles running between them 24/7. What Laughlin lacks in Vegas glamour, it makes up for in affordability, scenic beauty and aquatic fun.

Overall ok, but several issues that are basic hotel musts that fell short - toilet has to be flushed 2-3 times to work properly, fan in bathroom not working, no hand towels, no washcloths, tv reception was hit and miss, waiting line for elevator, and casino was very smokey. We made the most of it and still had a good time.

Don't let the amenities fool you

This resort looks better on paper than it does to actually visit. First time and LAST time we will stay there. I went with my girlfriend and her family for a river trip. First night first room the A/C woke us up around 3 on the morning making loud obnoxious rattling sounds. We had to turn it off. The sink had problems draining and there and the shower had the worst water pressure. On 5 total floors only one of them had an ice machine that worked. And half the elevators were broken. Second night the A/C issue returned at midnight so we switched to a new room. This room the sink also had issues draining and the toilet didn't work. We spent extra for the "upgraded room" and the actual stay couldn't have been worse. There are good amenities, enjoyable casino, and nice pool area. The only good part of the resort was the Thrifty's ice cream and winning on the black jack table. Look elsewhere if you want a room with functional features. Our group of 8 all experience more or less the same issues.

Anniversary

We booked a 2 nights stay at Don laughlin riverside hotel. On June 6 and 7th 2022. We made dinner reservations at the gourmet room over looking the Colorado River. Once checked in, it wasn't available so we had to wait 15 mins. The host asked us if we like to wait at the bar while they prepare for our table. We agreed and sat at the bar. While waiting to be serve by the bartender we asked if there's a cocktail or lists of wine or spirits selections, he said no. So we asked what does he have and any suggestions or recommendations ? He said no and pointed to the 4 flavored vodka on the bar counter. And said seltzer water can go with that. I asked him you mean to tell me you can't make me a drink or make recommendations as a bartender ? He look at me with seriousness and didn't reply. I think it's unheard of that a bartender can't make a drink or suggestions of drinks or even any specialty.. We didn't tell him it was our wedding anniversary..other then what he sees that my husband is black and I'm Asian.. I simply feel that he did not want to be bother with, didn't want to serve us...horrible feelings of being discriminated against being a biracial couple in a very predominantly red republican white state and town of Don Laughlin My husband tip him $1 to send him a message. Either do your job or get out and let someone else that will. Treat your guests of all backgrounds with respect and dignity. We will not be coming back to stay at this hotel again

Fine for a night

Thought this would be a good deal on our road trip. I parked in the deck behind the tower and had to walk through the casino to get to registration. By the time I had walked through and back to the tower, I had a smoke-induced headache. I don't begrudge any adults smoking in what is clearly an adult environment but it would be nice to be able to not go through it especially since they do offer a smoke free casino off to the side. [also i'm saying this as a former smoker who would have loved the ability to smoke inside before]. The room was ok. Lots of space-and entire second bed could have fit in there. Hardly any restaurants were open for some reason and this was Memorial Day. Settled for the sandwhich shop downstairs. Quick check out at the base of the tower where you can just drop your key off and go. Good location. If i come through again, I may just stay on the Bullhead City side.

Not for Seniors

Started by having construction in the front entrance, no valet parking, check in was easy, get to room and no ice machine had to go back down to checkin desk every time you needed ice. We were there 4 days it was horrible. Went to bowl, not open, went to play silly kids arcade games, all broken. Went to the bar, there were five people at the bar area and we waited 10 minutes to be waited on. Rode the river taxi and there were so many steps I though my other half would pass out on the way up and once we got up the steps the entrance was closed. Upon check out the way the hotel does it I was charged 100% more than the bill. It was returned but took 48 hours. This place needs help. literally and figuratively.

The absolute basics... And nothing more

Pros: It was clean. It was cheap (during the week). There was no resort fee. There was vinyl plank flooring, not carpet. Restaurant was really good. Location was right on riverwalk. Cons: No refrigerator or microwave. AC was not turned on when I entered room (it was 109 degrees outside). WiFi was present, but slow. Furniture was sparse and odd (desk, but no chair; weird piece of furniture that was larger than a chair, but smaller than a loveseat; no towel bar by sink; bare white walls). Cheaper rooms are in a separate building far away from front desk. No place to do laundry. The required $75 deposit is actually charged to your credit card and refunded - they don't just hold your card number in case of damage (this is really off-putting). Bottom line: If you're looking for a cheap overnight stay in Laughlin or relatively close to I-40, this is the place. But if you're looking for a weekend getaway, you might spring for something a tad pricier to get more value. Come to the restaurant either way - food was high quality, large portions, and relatively reasonably priced (I had 2 meals there).
