Top 10 Things to do in Laughlin, United States

February 9, 2018 Lashaunda Abraham

Hit the casinos, watch big-name entertainment and stay at a themed hotel. Las Vegas? No, but this small gambling town on the banks of the Colorado River offers a taste of Vegas minus the glitz, traffic and high costs. Plus, there's much to do here besides gambling. Not only does Laughlin have the Colorado River for boating, swimming, fishing, waterskiing and other sports, but it also has gorgeous Lake Mohave offering much of the same on a grander scale. Golfers will enjoy beautiful courses where reasonable green fees stretch their dollars. For a taste of the Wild West, head to nearby 100-year-old Oatman, where you can catch a mock gunfight and guzzle beer in an old-time saloon. Hiking, anyone? Grapevine Canyon awaits you, famous for the Indian markings - some 800 years old - carved into its boulders. If the slots are calling, you'll find plenty of gaming houses, with water shuttles running between them 24/7. What Laughlin lacks in Vegas glamour, it makes up for in affordability, scenic beauty and aquatic fun.

Grapevine Canyon

Visitors come to this canyon in the Nevada desert to view its Indian petroglyphs, some of the first known to man. Truly an amazing site, many of the etchings go 40 to 50 feet below the sand level and are hundreds of years old. A few of the more common ones have been translated but the rest remain a mystery.

This park is great for cheap boat lunching (get the yearly pass), Farmers market on the 1st Saturday of the month...lots of great venders, most with samples, lots of folk art and sometimes live music. Also a decent gun show 2 or 3 times a year.

Not real bad overall but just kind of run down in a lot of areas. Inquired about a boat rental but just seemed to burden the ladies at the desk by asking questions. It is beautiful scenery around there. Cannot get in with Nat Park Pass or paying the daily fee to get into marina. a coyote ran right thru the parking lot when we pulled in. That man on the boat dock running the rentals was very nice to speak with.

Desert River Kayak

Desert River Kayak arranged our last-minute trip through Black Canyon. Service was great, friendly and knowledgeable - I also liked that they were so prompt! I've gone with outfitters who made me wait at either end repeatedly, and I didn't care for the experience!

The gear was in good order and worked well for what we were doing. We had a lovely time kayaking on the Colorado on the crystal blue-green waters. Highly recommend the trip for active, adventurous types!

Lake Mohave

Located between the Hoover and Davis Dams, the lake's 237 miles of shoreline, plus the area's usually sunny weather, provide ample opportunity for boating, swimming, scuba diving, fishing or just relaxing on the beach.

Reviewed By S4603OEdawnw - Jackson, TN, United States

Bring shade! You will get plenty of sun but not much shade. The boat ramp is easy to navigate and the dock side store is affordable for those last minute supplies. We were surprised by the cost, $20 for multiple days but no lower price for a day trip. We visited the lake on our last day so we weren't able to use the multi day pass we were required to purchase. We had a good time and will visit again, more prepared!

Riverfront

Busy Laughlin waterfront area with many activities and scenic riverwalk.

Reviewed By PhlegmMaster - Phoenix, Arizona

During one of my many visits to Laughlin, I walked the Riverfront (also known as the Riverwalk) on multiple mornings.

Walking along the Riverfront is perfect for getting your thoughts in order. I enjoy coming out right after sunrise when there aren't too many people around, making it a peaceful and contemplative jaunt. Coming out in the evening is a different experience, since it can get quite lively, especially between the Colorado Belle and the Edgewater, where folk seem to congregate, and sometimes there's even a live band playing on the weekends!

Details:

Distance: 1.2 miles from the starting point, the Riverside parking lot, to the end of the trail at the Laughlin River Lodge.

Time: 45 minutes to an hour (one way). I'm in average condition & health, so it'll take more or less for you depending on your personal health level.

To be clear, the path is not completely continuous from one end of the casinos to the other, but it's still an enjoyable way to pass the time. Also, the entire end-to-end layout of the Riverwalk is NOT completely accessible by wheelchair. Beginning at Don Laughlin’s Riverside, you go past the Aquarius, the Regency, and then the Edgewater. Here at the point where you make your way to the Colorado Belle, you will encounter a set of stairs leading up to the Colorado Belle level. At the Colorado Belle if you want to continue your walk, you will need to enter the casino, go out the front of the hotel, and then head to your left, where you can reconnect with the walk by the Pioneer. At the Pioneer, you will come across the next set of stairs leading downward (near the water fountain/oasis display). After this, you make your way along the path to the Golden Nugget, and finally you reach the Laughlin River Lodge, where the Riverwalk eventually ends after a bit more walking.

If you want to reach Harrah's, you need to leave the Riverwalk. Near the River Lodge taxi dock, there are stairs leading up to the backside of the hotel rooms, and from there you'll need to navigate up to the parking garage area. From here you can reach the main road, Casino Dr. Beginning at the River Lodge, and then walking along Casino Dr. to reach Harrah's, this portion of your journey is about .8 of a mile and uphill. It took me about 25 minutes. So, the total time from the Riverside Casino to Harrah's using the Riverwalk and then Casino drive, took just under 1.5 hours for the complete 2 mile walk. If you walk at a very slow pace, give yourself 2 hours.

Enjoy your walk & Be Happy!
