Reviewed By DrBebopMonroe_NYStayed as part of a 2-day South Coast tour, and sorry it was. The rooms are cramped, and we had 2 twin beds and a twin comforter, as a married couple! The ceilings are low- many people hit their heads multiple times. The showers were tiny and just thrown in, and even the floor molding was clearly installed by an amateur. The restaurant was okay, but the rustic chic of this place made even the local tour guide say it sucked! And he knows all the local hotels quite well. Avoid this place, please

Reviewed By Jüri JWe, my wife Karin and I, made a last minute reservation to stay at Hrifunes Guesthouse. We arrived around 7-8pm and i have to say it was the highlight of our trip in Iceland. We were greeted by a friendly icelandic sheepdog and as we stepped into the main building (recieption) the atmosphere blew us away. Guests were sitting at long table, having dinner and the smell of food was just amazing. The whole scene was like mom had made dinner, all the family was already at the table waiting and we were late without any excuse. Immidiately, I felt guilty for packing myself full at fish & chips joint at Wik earlier. Hadda Björk invited us to sit at the table and served us food. The food looked simple homemade food, but it tasted incredible. I knew the moment I smelled the food that I will hate myself for having that fish & chips before, but also realized that i would never forgive myself if i would skip that dinner. I’m glad I didn’t. Maybe it was just a lucky unique moment that we experienced at Hrifunes, but one must agree that Hadda Björk and Haukur have greated a warm and couszy place for travellers and we are most grateful to find this hidden gem. And sad there were no available rooms for the coming nights to prolong the stay.

Fosshotel Nupar is at highway 1 about 25 km east of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. The surroundings is known for its spectacular views. The hotel offers friendly, good service and a still atmosphere in a beautiful surroundings of Vatnajökull National Park. All of our rooms have private facilities and a beautiful view. Fosshotel Nupar is open all year.

Reviewed By ThordarsoncThe location & view was phenomenal. The staff was friendly. The facilities were clean. We had to wait at the desk a long time if we needed help with anything. We also had to ask for more coffee for the room as they didn’t come restock the room. I would recommend these facilities.

Reviewed By Frederic3006Absolutely stunning houses. Location is fantastic with panoramic views over the surroundings. House is beautifully decorated with nice materials. Very comfortable beds. 2 showers and toilets in the larger 3 bedroom house. Fire hottub outside: fantastic ! The host is charming! Full of humor ! Magnificent stay !!! Tip: start up your hottub the moment you arrive. It takes a couple of hours to reach a good temperature. It holds well the warmth, so the day after we had a perfect hottub in 45 minutes.

Reviewed By Sylwia Gwe arrived at midnight and a nice lady gave us the keys. Room was very clean, Bunk beds were very compfy. Bathrooms - also very clean. Kitchen and dining room was also vey big. The place was reasonable priced. If you are driving around the island and want one night stay - this is the perfect place. There is a washin basin in the room so you can wash the face and teeth. There are several shared bathrooms.

Dangerous until smoke alarms sorted - could be so good
Reviewed By 2008adventurerOur only bad experience in 10 day holiday - dangerous with smoke alarms not working, not enough cutlery and crockery and poor welcome. Message to manager re smoke alarm ignored (one alarm had no battery, the other simply didn't work). No-one at reception to welcome is despite agreeing check in time. Only 3 forks and 4 knives provided despite property advertised for 6. Disappointing and dangerous - great location though!
