While I was on the way to and from Jökulsárlón, I stopped by this place. Why? Because I was hungry and was looking for a restaurant. But I was SO surprised by the level of quality of this restaurant.
Iceland, to me, is like a Wilderness. The whole country is like US national parks, where the food is national park restaurant quality. However, this restaurant certainly exceeded my expectation.
The pork belly was a surprise.
The Pizza was also a surprise.
The price was also reasonable (USD 15 for a main dish)
In Iceland, if you want something other than fish and chip and you are on the way to or from the must-go attraction - Jökulsárlón. This is the place to stop by!!!

I came there very hungry and only to to get the worst burger i have ever got here in Iceland, and Europe as well. It was a basic road-burger with standard Icelandic cocktail sauce. But the sauce was spiced with i don't know what. Just awful taste, dry bread and economy sized burger, not tasty. All as un-professional as possible, served and grilled by part time school kids. No ambition and rude sign by the sauce stand that tells the rest about general customer attitude in this terrible place by the highway. Waste of good location and a place who makes me feel ashamed for Icelandic tourist service in general.

We got the Icelandic fish stew and was pleasantly surprised. When we received the dish, we thought it was a side for the pasta, but it was in fact the stew. Iceland's version of the stew is quite different than the American. It's almost like a casserole. None the less, it was very tasty. My only complaint was that I wish there was more.

Welcome to Icelandair Hotel Klaustur Restaurant. Widely considered the best trout available, we´re proud that the reowned Klaustur Artic Char is on our menu. It is raised in the water that comes directly from under the Skaftáreldahraun lava field. Furthermore, we proudly offer a local Lamb from Seglbúðir farm and their small-scale slaughterhouse. Their sheep graze freely in the Mountains of Laki throughout the summer.

The restaurant is located off the lobby of the Icelandic Hotel Klaustur
The area is large, with windows facing the glacier and mountain views.
The area, while a large room, feels intimate.
Breakfast is a buffet.
In the center of the room , set on 4 tables are large white bowls with assorted offerings. Cereal, fruits, skyr, assorted nuts, jams , fresh sliced veggies, hit and cold eggs, sausages, vegetarian baked beans, ham, salami, sliced chicken, platters of sliced cheese, assorted breads, croissants, butter and flavored crime cheeses.
Assorted juices, and flavored water complete the buffet.
You will not walk away hungry !

We are here two nights. There were four options for starters, eight options for main course and five pudding options. This may sound small but I could happily have eaten there every day for a week and tried all the different options as they all sounded and looked tasty.
One night I had the salad starter and the local charr main. my partner had the charr starter and the chicken pasta main. The following night I had the deep fried cod with wedges and he had the lamb burger and fries. We tried the frozen skyr cake for pudding. It's a bit like an icy cheesecake. I wasn't a huge fan. Tasted nice, just wasn't my kind of texture. If you like sorbet you'll probably like it.
The portions for main meals are quite large. The salad was lovely, had a good range of ingredients and a really tasty dressing. The chicken pasta was the best pasta dish either of us have ever had. Charr is kind of similar to salmon, but not as strong. It's delicious! Honestly all the meals and starters were top quality, not one negative to note.
Staff were friendly. The restaurant is lovely and cosy but spacious and quite large. Service was really good.
