Me and my girlfriend stayed there at my birthday and even tho it is really close to where we live fe felt so relwxwd and good there, the room and the lobby was so clean and bright and we both loved the artwork there and the fact that it used to be an old elementary school. The best hotel we have stayed in by far

Great Place to Stay

Reviewed By audrac208

This is a wonderful place to stay. It’s beautiful. The owner is very familiar with the area and gave us great ideas on what to do and see. We got a discount on the whale watching excursion because of her. She also teaches a yoga class and uses essential oils and natural products. Very clean and homey. Have stayed there twice in two years. Will stay there again!

Salthus Guesthouse

Salthus Guesthouse offers accommodation in well-furnished rooms, with great views over Skagastrond town and the Hunafloi bay, in North-West Iceland. You can choose from family rooms, double rooms and twin rooms with or without handicap access. All rooms have private bathroom, and rooms on the ground floor have their own patio. There are fourteen rooms in all, and the guesthouse sleeps up to 36 people, with one shared kitchen on each of the two rooms. Skagastrond sits on the newly defined Arctic Coast Way, an 800 km long route that winds between 21 villages and four islands along Iceland’s elemental north coast. For more information what to do in Skagastrond and surroundings, see the Area page on the website of Salthus Guesthouse.

Loud wind tunnel could use better soundproofing for the rooms

Reviewed By jenmito

I reserved a seaview room which ended up to be on the second floor. The room itself is quite large and the view was nice and the private ensuite bathroom was also clean and modern. As this is a guesthouse, there is a shared kitchen. There was a fridge, microwave, stove, oven, washing machine, and hair dyer. There was also some sort of compost which could have had some instructions on how to use it. What needs much improvement is the soundproofing. Every time someone opens the entrance, it is like a wind tunnel in the hallway. I also couldn't figure out why the wind noise wouldn't stop after I checked that the entrance was closed. I'm guessing it's a mixture of doors and windows be open. As the large group who overtook the kitchen for the whole night went to sleep, even the wind noise ended. I'm not sure why that party was split between the ground floor and the 2nd floor, but it would be better for the other guests if they were contained on one level so the rest of us could have a kitchen to use and some peace and quiet.

We stayed at Hvítafell several times during the Summer and Fall of 2020, which coincided with the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Iceland and elsewhere. We have stayed here in the years past, and like the convenience of the location as well as the familiarity & comfort of the living space. These are not luxury digs but they are very comfortable. There is only one eatery nearby (Dalakofinn) but bring your own groceries as the rooms are equipped with a full kitchen. Kristjana, who owns and runs this operation, is always warm, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to make your stay worthwhile.

Beautiful views, amazing hot tub and spacious rooms

There are beautiful views around the accommodation, the hot tub is amazing, nice and hot, and you can watch the stars and northern lights while lying in it. The rooms are spacious. There are 2 shared bathrooms between 5 rooms which is ideal, and a shared kitchen and communal area. The owners have a horse farm across the road and we went for a scenic ride. The owners were so hospitable and helpful and just lovely people.

Lovely setting, view and room. Perfect value and nice stop on the ring road tour. Lovely dinner in the near by town. Did also se nothern lights here - the first on our trip :) no kitchen, but little fridge and coffee, good enough for us. Lovely decor and very nice views of the fjord - we did not see any whales or seals at our short stay, but owner said you could be lucky to se whales, seal however more rare.

Eleven Experience Deplar Farm

Located on a converted sheep farm, Deplar Farm blends into the natural landscape with its black timber cladding and living roof, and the floor-to-ceiling windows around the property that embrace the surrounding peaks. Deplar Farm’s 13 bedrooms are a cozy contrast to the raw landscape outside. The spa is a standout, with a gray stone hot tub, sauna, steam room, and two Isopod flotation tanks.

Beautiful property, wonderful staff, underwhelming food, bad group dynamics

Reviewed By Paul G

The property is peerless, set in a valley in northern Iceland, visitors are instantly transported into a winter wonderland. We visited in January 2022, when there was daylight only between approximately 11 AM and 4:30 PM and there were many periods of snow and overcast conditions day and night. Nevertheless, the beauty of the surroundings were undiminished. Without exception, the staff was attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. We engaged in horseback riding, fat tire biking, massage therapy and the iso-pod experience. We also spent a couple of quiet hours in the lake house (the ghost cottage was closed due to the road being inaccessible) and used the indoor/outdoor geothermal pool each day. The horseback riding at Langhus Farm (icelandhorse.is) was on a cold and very windy afternoon and, even while we were well-equipped for the conditions, was challenging. The Icelandic horses we rode were great. My wife is a much more experience rider, but this was easily the best riding experience I had ever had. I highly recommend it for novice and experienced riders young and old. The owner and her assistants were friendly and warm and provided a terrific experience that I cannot recommend more highly. The fat biking with one of the Deplar Farm experience managers was on a slightly warmer and much calmer day. The tires are studded and underinflated for greater stability, though my bike needed more inflation and it made my ride more difficult than it needed to be. We rode from the main complex to the lake house, which is a well-appointed small cabin that was perfect for a quiet afternoon. The facilities for wellness, including fitness, yoga, massage, isopod, etc. are also first rate. The massage therapists were terrific and the massage rooms were quiet and relaxing. My wife and I tried the iso-pods – isolation and flotation tanks. We were scheduled to be in for 60 minutes and we each lasted for about 35 minutes. Neither of us were able to get into the mental state of “nothingness” or letting go of thought. In the end, I was bored and instead of trying to get through the hour decided to just get out. It was worth doing it so that I know not to do it again. Deplar Farm has a large bar area with many separate seating areas and many choices of table games, as well as playing cards, ping pong, billiards, foosball, etc. Rail alcohol is free, premium liquor is additional. In the right crowd, it would be a terrific asset. I had one criticism about Deplar Farm and one major complaint about our stay. The criticism is that the meal selections, while healthy, are extremely limited and not especially tasty. Significant culinary upgrades are necessary for the prices charged by Deplar Farm. My major complaint, alluded to in the prior paragraph, relates to the guests in residence while we were there. The guests consisted of my wife and I, a couple from Finland who were friendly and gracious, and a self-described “super-group” made up of American musicians in their forties of whom neither my wife, I, nor the Finns had ever heard, their manager, support crew, videographers, etc. They were loud, self-important, and inconsiderate of others. For example, the Finnish couple and we had to move our meals to other locations and times from the one communal dining table because the band was so loud. In the later evening, the band also tended to dominate the bar and geothermal pools. The staff did try to accommodate us, but there seemed to be limits to their authority. Apparently, the management/ownership of Deplar Farms are music aficionados and have constructed a recording studio, in which they hope to have others record in the future. I highly recommend that anyone making a reservation confirm whether the dates they are booking coincide with musician or other large (e.g., family) groups because Deplar Farm does not seem to have the systems to manage such situations.

What a find !

Reviewed By Paterson124

This property was a real godsend for us. We had been travelling from Reykjavik to Akureyi but had got stuck on the mountain during a snow blizzard and then the road was closed. We therefore had to book emergency accommodation and found this place which was already prepared ready for guests. Unfortunately the owner was away and his parents spoke little english but they were so lovely and welcoming and put us on to their son on the phone who then acted as the interpreter. We stayed in the 3 bedroomed shared accommodation but had the place to ourselves as it was New Years Day. The place is in the middle of nowhere but in a beautiful location and has its own little chapel which is very picturesque. I am sure this place would be ideal to see the Northern Lights due to the darkness but unfortunately we didn't see them on the night we stayed. The accommodation had 3 bedrooms, a comfortable lounge area and fully equipped kitchen. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom had a fantastic powerful shower in it too. Whilst we had not intended to stay here, we were so pleased to have done so and would recommend to others. Very friendly and helpful owners who had 2 gorgeous dogs who came to say hello the following morning. An absolute godsend to us.
