I so wanted to enjoy this concept, but...

...it's a disaster. First, if you're going to label yourself "eco-chic all suite hotel" (Google listing) you have to aspire to more in the way of genuine eco-credentials than the one solar panel I could find in the scruffy grounds. Perhaps there's a ground-source heat pump powering everything, rainwater harvesting, and amazing use of renewables and if so I'm mistaken, but I just couldn't for the life of me understand the application of "eco" to anything. It takes minimalist to a new level, with bare concrete walls and floors presentation and an artful attempt to appear "recycled" in the knocked-together look of the furniture, but it just comes across as scruffy (a personal opinion, obviously). And the definition of a "suite" is a set of inter-connecting rooms: here the accommodation is in glass-fronted concrete bunkers set around the estate paths, all open-plan with the only inter-connectedness being a small (under-powered) shower room and a separate loo. This leaves a fairly large, well...room. By no adequate description a "suite". Cleanliness left a lot to be desired (see pics of ventilation cover - admittedly the extractor fan to this doesn't work anyway) and the window in the roof above the grass-topping to the bunker-room - come on guys, just clean the windows! The patio at the front of the room (see pic) is about as unwelcoming as it is possible for a presentation to be: just ghastly. Upsides?: well, couldn't fault the breakfasts which have a great deal of choice and decent-quality, albeit without expected options in this price-range such as made-to-order omelettes, etc. And the location is good for the coastline beyond the Obidos lagoon, and for lovely Obidos itself. Staff were indifferent and appeared inexperienced, certainly showed not the slightest interest in making your stay special...which at €500 for two nights, room and breakfast-only it ought to be. The last reviews were posted in late 2019; Covid obviously has a lot to do with the ability of hospitality providers to cope so maybe that's a reason, albeit not an excuse (although plenty of other hotels are going above and beyond), and maybe things have just gone downhill since, but frankly this place has been an awful experience and one we were pleased to evacuate from as soon as was possible.

Agua d'Alma Hotel

The town Foz do Arelho was conferred with two natural and unique features: the sea with a beach that has an extensive shore and a lagoon, which is calm and invigorating, and surrounded by a tranquil and breath-taking landscape. Água d’Alma Hotel offers comfort and well-being in a friendly atmosphere that is ideal for whomever is looking for tranquillity during their holiday or work stays. At the hotel guests can relax with a drink at the bar, which has a fish aquarium, watch the news and the sports events on sports channels or surf on the Internet. The bar has a terrace with outdoor seating where you can observe the Lagoa de Óbidos. The hotel’s history dates back to the 60’s when Nazaré Piedade Figueiredo founded it with the name “Pensão Nazaré”. After it was enlarged by her son Artur Filipe Figueiredo Domingues and his wife Maria Alice Mondim Domingues and in the 80’s it changed its name to “Residencial Penedo Furado” and, later on, “Hotel Penedo Furado”. Nowadays it is on its third generation and the building has been completely renovated by Ana Paula Mondim Domingues. Água d’Alma Hotel cherishes many inherited values from the family’s first generation. Water (Água) is an intrinsic element of the hotel. This connection comes from its location, which is near the Lagoa de Óbidos and the Atlantic Ocean as well as the architectural features of the building where water plays a central and preponderant role. From the soul (d’Alma) evokes the ideas of gracefulness, tranquillity and peace that are strong concepts, which have accompanied the three generations of the family who runs the hotel.

A lovely quiet hotel

This small hotel has clean and comfy rooms. The bathroom was small but everything worked well for us. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is close to some good restaurants and about 15 minutes walk to the beach area. They have happy hour at the hotel bar every evening at 6pm, a great way to unwind! We would eagerly stay at this hotel again.

Beautiful views, good staff.

We really enjoyed our week in Inatel. Big and comfortable bedroom, very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. Excellent location, from our room we had the nice view of Óbidos lake and the sea. Just 30 minutes from Caldas da Rainhas. I recommend without fear you won’t be disappointed. We’ll be returning there happily.

Mansion with peacocks !

Reviewed By ryblue

We really enjoyed our stay at Quinta da Foz. We had a couple of days while on a cycling trip. The property is a large historic mansion in the centre of town. The room we had was full of character. The bed was a little small but was not an issue. The owner, Fransisco, was kind enough to tell us the history of his house that had been in his family since it was constructed in the 16th Century. Two decent restaurants were only a short walk away. Breakfast, brought to the room, was delicious. The grounds are full of peacocks that also wander freely in the town. They can be noisy but put on quite a show !

Second visit to this relaxed hideaway

Reviewed By annastylewhite

Nice spacious rooms with AC. Tucked away but only a short walk or bike ride from the beach, bars and restaurants. Great breakfast with plenty to choose from and we got a week for a very reasonable price. Use of the large kitchen meant we could have friends over who were staying locally. Owner is delightful and very helpful. Don't recommend the Blue Room next to the kitchen as it is noisy.

Small room, vey basic

Reviewed By Maxine M

Only stayed 1 night. Owners very polite and welcoming. Our room was small and very basic, but was clean. The shower head sprayed everywhere and flooded the room if you were not careful, so we held the shower head in our hand. Very basic room, small tv on the wall, no chair to sit on so had to sit on the bed, no glass for a drink of water. I guess for the price it was ok for 1 night, because the location is great, but i could not have stayed for a few nights holiday, only because of the very basic and small room. Definitely needs some modernization.
