Hotel with ignorant management and no service in a shady neighborhood.
Reviewed By CanIGoWithYouWe chose Holiday Inn Express Chiayi for our excursion to southern Taiwan because it's a new property and we generally have great experience at IHG properties, but we were thoroughly disappointed by the management and staff. At check-in, we were told that the hotel was fully booked and the on-site parking might be full when we come back later, but the hotel has an off-site contract parking at a restaurant. When we came back after dinner, there were a couple cars lined up in front of the hotel, and the entrance to parking was blocked. There was no sign and nobody was directing cars. We waited a couple minutes before realizing that parking might be full. Since there was no direction to the contract parking lot, we had to navigate and ask around to get to the parking lot. It turned out that the contract parking was also full. We had to park our car in the drive way, left my phone number in the car, and walked 5 minutes back to the hotel. I told front desk about the situation, especially that there were still cars waiting in front of the hotel parking, and the staff asked me to be considerate as they were fully booked and asked our room number. I also asked that if we can move the car to the blocked off parking area in front of the hotel lobby, and she said no. I thought perhaps the night time manager would contact us and offer an explanation if not an apology. Nothing happened. At check-out, I told the front desk staff about the situation. The staff, along with someone who I assumed was the front desk manager, listened and replied that they were fully booked, and the manager said that he "understands that we were inconvenienced." We received no apology during our entire stay. The hotel was also apparently not meeting the hygiene requirements during the pandemic. Nobody entering the hotel was checked for temperature, and the restaurant staff didn't even wipe the table between guests during breakfast. Location-wise, the hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the rear entrance of Chiayi Station. The hotel is in a somewhat shady neighborhood, surrounded by karaoke restaurants and pachinko parlors. There were limited amenities and restaurants within walking distance, and as mentioned above, the hotel offered extremely limited parking (around 30 for 127 rooms). The Holiday Inn Express brand certainly wasn't renowned for great service, but it is beyond me how a property can be so bad, yet feel entitled (both their attitude and that they had no problem charging a 10% service fee). If you are planning to spend $100+/night in Chiayi, I would recommend perhaps the Evergreen Hotel, or literally anything but Holiday Inn Express Chiayi.

A nice family hotel
Reviewed By liucy752Stay here for one night for an academic conference. The conference venue is average but the banquet is great. The room is spacious clean and tidy. Staff are professional and friendly. Service is good. Breakfast is average. This is a nice family hotel. There is a merry-go-round, an electric car racing track, a grass and soccer field, and an indoor kid’s playroom. The hotel is located at suburban area, a little bit far away from the station. It is suitable for coach tours or self drive tours, not so convenient for backpackers.

Reviewed By AshL536We love this hotel for its affordability and space that we stayed two nights prior going to Alisha. Bed is huge and comes with a standard bath. Small side table and sofa is just next to bed. There is a local market nearby, couple of minutes walk and do try the local breakfast items favored by local that is less than NTD 50. Must try Taiwan pineapples that is super sweet. There is basement carpark in the hotel FOC. Lift to room level is access by hotel key and it appears no night guard after wee hours. Toilet seat comes with bidet and heated.

Reviewed By 309gabtThe hotel corridors are dimly lit. Rooms are poorly sound proofed and you can heat your neighbors loud and clear. Aircon vent needs to be adjusted manually to change the direction of the wind by climbing up the bed. Laundry is located at the corner of the basement carpark with an eerie atmosphere, felt like a zombie might jump out and attack you. Breakfast is in a school-canteen/cafeteria liked setting with long rows of plastic tables and chairs. Food is average. Location is alright, there is a night market (Chiayi Wenhua Road) about 1km away. This place is more suitable for solo/friends.

New hotel with helpful reception staff

Taxi Drivers don’t seem to hear of it - need to show address and highlight that it is at junction of Guangcai St and Guogua St. Reception staff are very helpful with recommendations and friendly. Night market just round the corner and many shops and eateries in the area. Hotel is bright and airy ( on keeping with name of hotel ML - the Chinese meaning is Morning Light). Room is spacious with modern functional design and has a number of power points. Very clean and comfortable bed. Wifi is good. My room does not come with breakfast, so can’t comment on that.

One of the best hotels in Chiayi downtown
Reviewed By seanliutravelDays before checking in, I have contacted the front desk for inquiries about parking and breakfast, two receptionists I have spoken with were both polite and courteous, and were eager to assist me in every way with enthusiasm and thoughtfulness. On the date of our arrival, the same courteous attitude was still shown from the one we met during check-in, she also explained everything we need to know during our stay in detail. We would also like to appreciate her for her arrangement of upgrading our room to a windowed one. The parking space at B2 was limited and could only fit about ten vehicles or so, and one should be careful as the entry/exit was machine-operated. However, the hotel did offer compensation if you have to park at a designated parking space instead of the one inside the hotel. The room was extremely clean in every corner, including but not limited to, carpet, sofa, bed linings, bathroom, toilet, shower room, sink, which was always our priority when choosing accommodations. The room itself is spacious enough and quite comfy for both of us. We have made a request for more pillows, and the lady just delivered them within five minutes, quite swift. We indeed had a wonderful sleep. The breakfast was served between 7 to 10 am, and there were varieties of food to choose from, including local delicacy. One thing I would suggest to the hotel is to bring the food much hotter instead of just maintaining them at a warm temperature. Overall, it's an amazing hotel with affordable prices and excellent service and cleanliness in Chiayi downtown, and we will definitely stay here again in the future.

Easy to access but noisy

Breakfast is also good and provide Chiayi famous chicken rice for guests to taste. Only one thing needs to improve is that hotel is very closed to main street and noisy even stay in high floor (10th Floor)

Disappointed by the management
Reviewed By 666visitorWe were looking forward to staying at this hotel, and, at first, were quite impressed by the phone calls the hotel made to us, wishing to confirm - and reconfirm - our arrival: this attentiveness seemed to correspond well to the fairly high price that we were paying for the stay. After arriving, though, we felt the hotel fell short of the expectations. While the room was spacious and clean, we were quite shocked by the cold and bland breakfast food (overcooked eggs, a cold tasteless sandwich, "fake orange juice", cheap, low-quality pickled vegetables, cold french-fries, and things like that). There was no tableware to be found in the room (although the breakfast came with some awful plastic spoons and cheap bamboo chopsticks - like those one gets at night markets), we were offered 2-in-1 instant coffee - which simply does not seem to match the 15,000 NT (ca. 400 USD) we paid for the stay. The hotel claims to have two areas for children - in one of them, there are 5 (or 6) slow bulldozer-like vehicles, but one ONE may be operated at a time, which results in long lines. On the 7th floor, one can find another “playground”, consisting of a broken fussball table, two children’s cars (the playtime for which is almost not managed at all), some dirty-looking LEGO, and a trash can that was drowning under trash. Outside the hotel, the hotel trash containers were kept right in the parking lot, which forced one to breathe unpleasant smells every time one parked the vehicle. The service offered by the staff was rather cold, as the people did not seem to be very interested in doing their job right. One could often see the staff playing with their mobile phones. All in all, we feel we paid far more than the quality we received called for. Service-wise, this was like a random 2-star rund-down hotel, which was rather disappointing, and were surprised by the many positive reviews. Perhaps something has happened? Perhaps the management has to be reviewed? We don’t know. But it would be difficult to return to such a place, or recommend it to others.

Convenient Hotel with Nice Location near the Chiayi Train Station Wonderfully located in the center of Chiayi City, Taiwan, Royal Chiayi Hotel is a boutique Taiwan hotel adjacent to Chiayi Train Station (2.2km/6 minutes drive) which is also the start point of Alishan Forest Railway that connects to Fenchihu. In addition, Chiayi HSR Station is a 15-minute drive away and the BRT network with comprehensive coverage allows travelers to get to the hotel fast and easily. With a strategically chosen location, the hotel is set at the halfway to Alishan makes it a nice rest point for one's Alishan travel. Alishan Forest Recreation Area is the must-visit attraction when people travel to Chiayi, which is noted for its natural beauties, majestic wooded land, a mass consisting of a succession of mountain view, and astonishing sunrise.

Good location easy to find. Cons: 1. Gas station next to it, some people may care about it but I’m ok. 2. They have smoking room. My room has smoke burned carpet, I’m ok with it but the hotel needs to get rid of it before next guest. 3. Wifi speed was just ok.
