Great location and practical amenities
Reviewed By MaggieA522For a hotel that ranks somewhere between two and three stars, the ARK is an excellent choice for those prioritizing location in Taipei. Located walking distance to two major subway lines, the hotel is also adjacent to Da'an park as well as local eats, making it a great place to drop off your bags and head off to explore Taipei. The hotel is able to offer tour options from the front desk, however, these services are provided by a travel agent. I have already stayed at the ARK twice for relatively long trips (>5 days each), and having the laundry machine available is a huge luxury in my opinion. There is only one machine and its shared by everyone, so you might have to wait which is annoying, but going home with clean clothes is one less thing to worry about. It also means that when I travel, I don't have to carry as many clothes with me. The bathroom provides all the basic amenities except body lotion. Would recommend you bring some from home.

Reviewed By floating_snowflakeThis isn't really a hotel, I think its more of a motel. It's best for people with no luggages as it has no lift. While its near MRT, market and 7 eleven. That's the only plus. Our driver said for the price, it might be best to stay at the ximending area instead. Room was tight for 3 person room.

Reviewed By sabi0jamesOur flight arrived at past midnight and so we were able to get to the hotel at 3am, there was no one at the front desk anymore but they made sure that i could get the room key by emailing me a picture of the room key left at the desk with a note and found it there when we arrived. We were 5 so the 3 double beds in the family room were more than enough for us. There is a big flat screen TV and a mini ref, cabinets, enough power outlets for our gadgets, a hair dryer, hot and cold water in both sink and shower, and a bath tub. Liquid soap and shampoo in dispensers were also available. Our flight home was at 10 pm but we had a tour of Jiufen, Shifen, Yehliu early that day, so we checked out early of the hotel and the female staff allowed us to leave all our luggages behind and be picked up later that night. The male staff (owner?) also was very helpful in getting us transpo to the airport upon checking out. Despite not being able to speak much English, he just used a translator in his phone to communicate with us. Overall, a great experience in this hotel, that is very near the Taipei Main Station, Ximending area, department stores, restaurants. Also just beside the hotel is a 7-11 store. The old ladies cleaning the room daily were both very nice. Hotel looks dated and may want some facelifting done.

Good budget choice and good location
Reviewed By JMartin49The Royal Hotel on Huaning St. (華寧街）is located close to many transport options, chief among these being Taibei Main Train Station (regular & bullet train), Taibei MRT Station, Taoyuan MRT Station, and Taibei Bus Station. The building is well-kept, although it is showing some age. Nevertheless, the management keeps it neat and clean, and the knick-knacks in the lobby are charming and quaint, somewhat similar to one's memories of a favorite maiden aunt. The facilities are sufficient for travelers who need a hotel for one, two, or more nights. It is near the numerous underground "malls" that surround the stations on all sides, and that extend out-of-sight up and down major roads. The clerks in the mall stores are unfailingly polite, and ever so eager to relieve the customer of any extra cash yearning to be free. Dining options range from really good Taiwan street food to noodle/dumpling fast food storefronts to sit down restaurants and, not far away, more expensive joints that take themselves quite seriously, but do provide good food. The hotel attracts a range of guests; a large proportion are middle-aged women traveling with friends or daughters, or so it seemed. This is a good sign, because it is an index of perceived safety and comfort. It's a good lodging for the area and the price. Certainly the least appealing aspect is that interior rooms are windowless, which imposes a certain kind of unease for a guest not accustomed to this. However, anyone who knows hotels in Taipei knows that this is no uncommon "feature", and that it is a direct imposition of construction practices, not of preference.

Reviewed By keengHidden in the back alley but surprisingly just a stone throw away from subway station. Hotel delivers breakfast to room but with limited choices, you will get bored for prolonged stay. Plus point: free use of washing machine and dryer.

bad everything, except location
Reviewed By 627charlesdArrived at midnight. The room and the bathroom have some weird smell; rock hard beds; amenities are old, but still functions well. The design of the lobby and corridors look very early 90s. Very minimal choices for its breakfast as well. The only value that we got would probably be the location as it is very near the main Taipei station as well as shopping areas, and convenience stores.
