A lovely stay spoilt by the arrival of a group

Reviewed By Andrew P

At first we loved this hotel. The setting in the hills outside Antequera is splendid, the conversion from convent to hotel has been well done, although it’s looking a bit shabby - leaking gutter in the inner courtyard, torn fabric in dining room blinds, faded worktop round sink. Great restaurant with views of limestone crags and good food (though lots of meat, not much vegetables). But on our last full day a party of 40 Spanish electricians arrived for lunch then supper. In between they packed the bar, shouting and singing, unmasked despite Covid. We retreated to the restaurant at 8 pm to find the staff starting to set tables for the group for their supper. One table was set for us. The staff thought we’d be happy to eat with them working round us! We complained. It took 30 minutes of explaining by us for them to find a solution - supper in a quiet alcove in the basement. We asked to see the Manager. He/she didn’t come. The staff were apologetic and gave us free drinks that night but our stay was spoilt. They had been polite throughout but seemed to have no idea what a 5 star, or even a 3 star experience should be. The Hotel should have cancelled our booking for that night or sent us to another hotel to eat.

Great hotel

Picked up hire car in Malaga and used this hotel as base for trips to Ronda, Cordoba and Granada as it was central for them all and near to main motorway network. Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely big room (121) with balcony and an excellent breakfast. Hotel is on edge of town and taxi will cost 10 Euros each way...town is beautiful too and well worth a visit. I would recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again if I was touring Andalucia.

Decent stay

Nice location, balcony with a view to a nearby old church. Friendly staff. Possibility to park a car at the closed parking 100 metres from the hotel. There's a restaurant downstairs which is convenient for a breakfast. Antequera is a city worth visiting. The drawbacks: - bed was extremely short - I'm 183 cm tall and it was not very comfortable (but we stayed just one night) - the facilities are bit dated

Not really a four star hotel.

Reviewed By Derek F

We used this hotel as a base as part of an Andalucía tour booked through Travelsphere. First impressions were that the hotel is in quite a scruffy part of town, adjacent to a garage and what appeared to be a lorry park. Our room was of a reasonable standard, though other members of our party had problems with the facilities and cleanliness and their rooms were changed. In general, the hotel felt like it wasn't really ready for us, though improvements were starting to happen during the week of our stay. It seemed like they were still in recovery from the Pandemic. The bar in the huge foyer only seemed to be open from 7 pm and it proved problematic to get tea or coffee during the day. Staff seemed to be in short supply. We had a kettle and cups in our room, but tea and coffee were not supplied. The overall standard of the food was average at best. It was rather boring and unimaginative - very much the same day after day. Had local restaurants been closer, we would have used them. Many of the published hotel facilities were not available (eg indoor swimming pool, spa, fitness room, massage facilities etc). The indoor pool in fact seemed to be full of mattresses. A golf course was mentioned in the hotel details, but there was no evidence of it. Other facilities (outdoor pool etc) were clearly not fully ready for use, and maintenance work was happening daily around the guests. Our room was located over the main entrance which was rather noisy (early/ late arrivals making a noise). Also, outside the hotel, parked lorries were often started up early for departure and were also very noisy. On the good side, the town of Antequera was very picturesque though it was a good 20 - 25 minutes walk from the hotel. The maps provided by the hotel were inadequate, though the local tourist Information office staff were very helpful. Finally, the hotel staff were in general very friendly and were trying their best in difficult circumstances. The hotel really should not have been accepting guests in the circumstances, though out tour company Travelsphere are partly to blame for using them.

Truly peaceful location, rustic old house, lovely pool

Reviewed By Lilactlilac

Lovely old farm house and buildings with thick walls and small windows. Extensive breakfast with lots of homemade jams, hams and cheeses, delicious lemonade and coffee. The pool is reached by a gravel area between the house and horses and was clean and very relaxing. Our host spoke super English, having spent some time in the UK. Only one night for use on our road-trip but would visit again!
