Not a 5 Star experience at all

This hotel apparently just opened and we were the “Guinea pigs” of being the first guest - first week. You should be aware that when booking if you use the Bonvoy app that the Residences are totally different from the regular rooms booked at the hotel - when booking I was not aware of this distinction but would later learn the negative to it. We booked the largest 3 bedroom “residence” and it was not fully equipped with even coffee and tea- we were told all on site restaurant had a QR code that could be found in your room - no where to be found - we had no check in the instructions while the couple we were traveling with were given a tour of their room showing how to operate things giving them the sites history (they were in hotel)the stove in the facility didn’t work and for breakfast we were told someone would be up by lunchtime - didn’t help us much - no extra blanket or pillow - no amenities of any kind - no tea or coffee no laundry detergent or a soap for sink or sponge or even salt and pepper - sparce when you traveled that far and when asked if we could buy the items from them they directed us to a store 5 miles away - our dinner for the 9 of us took 4 hours with multiple mistakes and 3 meals that apparently were never ordered )though the waitress read all of us back the orders and they were right). Their idea of rectifying the problem was a free dessert! I get that they are new and there will be learning curve but as the customer it took away many hours of my vacation time in calls and complaints to end up with a few free buffet breakfast for 3 days of $5k vacation! Not happy and would not recommend you go unless you wait a year for them to hopefully work it out or be crystal clear in your understanding as we stay 5 star places all the time and this is not it! The people were so friendly and nice but were given no power to do anything to help the customer - almost non existent follow up on our experience either until things started mounting. ! It’s a shame as the property is beautiful!

What a great place. It was our first time at this hotel and we loved it. The facilities are great, we loved the gardens especially. The food is very good with so much choice at breakfast and dinner. The drinks are high quality with a great selection. The rooms are spacious, as a group of three adults, we were especially grateful for a very comfortable third bed in the room. The hotel offers such a high professional standard and should be proud! The staff stand out as they are highly professional in every regard. They're also friendly (and some are real characters)!! Ola Carlos (× 2), Philippe, Joselio, Ricardo, Hernan, Eduard, Cristina, Artur...... The spa is great and enhances an already positive experience. Obrigada Jenny. We came across so many returners (including a couple who were on their 16th trip)! All in all, a lovely quiet place for a relaxed holiday. ? Obrigada a todos.

Small niggles which could have been resolved

Reviewed By Surreytraveller98

Lovely hotel and lovely food, very limited gluten free options in comparison to other 5*hotels I’ve stayed in. Prices as you would expect in a 5* hotel. Good areas around the pools and plenty of pool towels and beds for guests. Our room was spacious, bed very comfortable and good bed linen. but the bathroom design gives very little privacy and the seals on the shower leaked making the floor dangerously slippy. Coffee machine leaked the whole time we were there in spite of three changes. Although the hotel does not know in advance if their guests smoke we were surrounded by guests smoking on their balconies which meant we couldn’t sit on ours when they were on theirs our leave our windows open. A completely smoke free area would solve this problem. Better communication between front desk and maintenance dept would resolve issues before they niggle the guests. Our room was not serviced until 3-4pm every day which was really irritating if you wished to rest before dinner. Lovely hotel but not quite the standard we were expecting.

Best Hotel From Plaja da Aro to Portamao. Should be 4 star!

Reviewed By lurkio

This is one of the best hotels, all inclusive I have visited from Plaja d Aro in Spain to Portamao. All the staff are happy and seem to enjoy working here. I had some lovely conversations with Maria, Tahir, Phillipe, Nicholas, Ricardo to name a few. We tipped regularly and got exceptional service. Rooms are dated but clean and immaculate. Our flight home last Saturday was cancelled and they had no availability but the lovely lady behind reception found a room that was in the block being refurbished. The food is fantastic, drink measures small unless you ask for grande. The grounds are immaculate, poolsare spotless. A few sunbeds need renewing, I was like an upside down tortoise in one. I am celiac but everything is labeled clearly. They do gluten free rolls. I avoided the soups and gravies but my wife loved them. The location is ideal, beautiful head land and beaches. Board walks to the old town and an uber to the escalators is under 4 euros. I'd like to thank all the staff for accommodating me and my daughter Easter and wifey for Whitsun. The entertainment team were fabulous and go the extra mile. Karaoke was fun the Dutch loved my Tom Jones and the wife's Corrs!omg and summer loving. Will be coming back.

Alfagar Alto da Colina

Great family hotel with young kids

Reviewed By Mairead M

Stayed here at the end of May with our 4.5 year old son. We were dropped off at Alfagar but they took us across the road to Alto da Colina - its a large resort with 2 main hotel, a road running between them. Both hotels have pretty much the exact same facilities. We were initially in a 1 bed apt, which had a single bed setup in the sitting room. We were moved to a 2 bed 2days into our holiday and it was great - very big, very clean, large balcony with table and chairs overlooking the pool and sea view in the distance. Kitchen had toaster/microwave/fridge/cooker/oven etc. Our room was on the 2nd floor just above the restaurant/bar area, it was a little noisy when the entertainment was on at night but we slept through it all! We were on half board, breakfast and dinner included - both were buffet and a great selection, the food was all lovely and a good selection of fruit and veg, also a good selection of desserts! Dinner was different every night. Only complaint is the coffee is awful and the glasses of wine weren't good either. Also dinner starts at 6.30pm, I would have preferred a little earlier for small kids. There are lots of different pools but we spent most of our time at the kids slides pool - this is great for kids probably up to about 8 or so, but really safe for younger kids. There is a pool bar beside selling coffee/drinks/food etc. You can rent towels for the week at reception at the hotel - 5euro for as long as you have it with a 10euro deposit. There is a playground which is nice/a tree trekking-zipline, archery, parrot show, reptile show - parrot show and reptile show are a little pushy on selling the photos. We got a taxi for 8euro to the old town in Albufeira (its not a walk) - walked the beach, the streets and had lunch etc. Nice for a morning. There is a spar when you turn left on the main road - has most stuff you'll need. There is also a mini market in the Alfagar hotel across the road. The Cafeteria bar in the Alfagar hotel has a lovely area out the back with a lovely view and lovely cocktails! There is also a lovely walk to the beach - there are some steps down to the beach but it was grand. We would definitely recommend for families and especially with kids under 8-10.
