The best available Cottages to stay near Queensland

May 1, 2023 Vergie Nakamoto

Some of Queensland’s most remarkable sights require you to leave terra firma. Off its coast sits the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef. Snorkel and scuba among 1500 resident fish species, or sail through the Whitsundays’ white-sand atolls. Back on dry land, you’ll find tropical escapes in the Daintree Rainforest to the north, rugged outback to the west and alfresco dining on the Gold Coast in the south. South East Queensland boasts mountain views, vineyards and ‘river city’ Brisbane.

Fabulous First Trip to Noosa Avalon Cottages

Myself, my husband, and our German Shepherd Merlin, stayed for two nights in the Heritage Cottage. The cottage is absolutely exquisite, like stepping back in time, and we love the original features and attention to decorative detail. The paved fire pit area is excellent, and the whole place is immaculately clean. We were very comfortable, with beautiful nature views, and saw the cows around our verandah, and the little ponies. We just loved it, and will definitely recommend it, and be back to visit again. Thank you to the owners for providing such a lovely place to stay.

The house was immaculate and their attention to detail is just WOW. We arrived to find even the dog bowls were ready with fresh water. Firewood chopped. Fresh herbs and lemons in the kitchen for our use. Tim Tams to enjoy with a choice of coffee and let’s not forget the dog biscuits. Beds are super comfy and all linens crisp and clean. Access to Wifi, Netflix (TV’s in the lounge and both bedrooms). Great shower pressure. Our favourite was drinks on the porch. So pack your clothes, add food and drinks, and book your stay. Chillagoe Cabins

We offer well-appointed, self-catering cottages in the wonderous gateway to Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Park. Escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and transport yourself into a breathtaking landscape where time appears to have stood still. Chillagoe Cabins are based on the design of old miners’ huts and you'll feel as if you have drifted back in time - there is even an array of historical memorabilia in each cabin to complement the old-fashioned exterior. However, this is where the kinship with the past ends - each cabin is decked out with comfortable beds and luxury linen that lures you even during the daytime, fully equipped bathrooms, kitchen facilities, and digital television. If self-catering is off your bucket list, then join other dinner guests for some real sumptuous home-cooked Aussie Tucker, and don't fret over breakfast either, because that is all part of the package too, with a great continental breakfast poolside every morning that will set you up for the whole day. For those who wish to self-cater, a barbeque near the pool offers another opportunity to engage with the surrounding tropical gardens. Chillagoe is located on the Tableland 2.5 hours west of Cairns and is accessible by normal vehicles while there is the weekly Savannahlander Train just down the road. Chillagoe is a world re-known tourist destination for its above-ground limestone caves formed from the great Coral Reef some 400 million years ago. There are between 600 and 1000 caves located in the area of the Chillagoe – Mungana National Park. The Heritage Listed Refinery / Smelter once produced lead, silver, copper, and gold for the economy. There are many ruins around the town to be researched and investigated as well as native trees for visitors to wander about and they provide a habitat for an abundance of wildlife or take a personally catered tour, where you can explore some of the most interesting sites in Chillagoe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our farmstay experience at the Mexicana suite which was spacious and comfortable for our family of 5. The suite comes with a outdoor bbq and stove and was decked out with an amazing variety of sports equipment, games, books and toys. The daily animal feeding was very interesting with a good variety of animals and Ezie was super friendly and good with the kids! Can tell that the farm and accommodation are lovingly managed. Do enquire ahead on farm conditions as gum boots may be required depending on weather.

Can't fault this place really.. bit more kindling and firewood would be good.. getting cold this time of year.. but central to everything really... get that fireplace going and just sit around and relax... pity there is no interaction with the animals on-site, and better access to their products..which is garlic..
