Reviewed By jessatkins0nWe had an amazing stay at Socalco for 3 nights. I picked the hotel because both my partner and I are foodies and I was excited by the set menu you get every night; safe to say it did not disappoint! We ate at the restaurant every night and one lunch, as it was so delicious and good value. You pay €35 per person for 4 courses which are all a surprise until they are in front of you. The breakfast as well was amazing and included freshly baked fermented bread and home made jam from the papayas growing outside our hotel room window! FOOD WAS 5 STARS! The hotel room was beautiful, large and airy, with our own terrace complete with table and chairs overlooking the sea. There was also a TV which had loads of channels, including around 4 movie channels with English films on. Our room was nestled within the vineyards on the property and felt very private and quiet. The hotel itself is immaculate, has breathtaking views and lots of places to relax and enjoy the views of Madeira. We sat by the pool on sun loungers which faced the sea. The hotel was also only 10 minutes from the sea. We have plans to return next year.

Lovely get away
Reviewed By DMRN22We had a lovely break at Quintas das Vinhas. The cottage and grounds have been thoughtfully and authentically put together. A peaceful location, but this necessitates a car as there are limited options of going anywhere without. Not possible to rely on buses and too much incline to walk far. The views of the bay at Calhetta with the vineyard and tropical plants in the foreground is such a privilege to view from the restaurant and your cottage. Breakfast were great. The evening meals were fine, but feel they could be improved on , as is often the case with set menus, and I believe were a little on the pricey side. The cottages are cleaned every day to a high standard. The staff were mainly friendly and pleasant, but there was inconsistency about times and knowledge of the amenities, I think this was due to current information booklets being up dated. We didn’t have any information in our accommodation of meal times etc or of the local area, this said, when asked staff would always try and help. As with much of Madeira, this accommodation is not ideal for anyone with mobility issues. Understandable, but there were days when there was a lot of machinery noise due to maintenance of grounds and buildings, otherwise a peaceful location Overall a lovely place, I found the main house hotel, interesting and calming.The pool and Sun loungers are great for a bit of relaxation, and a good book, especially after a levada walk. Plenty to see and explore if you are happy to drive yourself, The bathroom toiletries were great!

We are a small country side hiking Hotel right in the middle of the vineyards of the beautiful area of Estreito da Calheta with magnificent views over Calheta, Paul da Serra and especially the sparkling Atlantic ocean surrounding Madeira. Built in a typical "Quinta" Style in 2002 with 28 comfortable and fresh individual rooms, a nice and cosy bar with a fireplace and an outdoor pool with seaview surrounded by a beautiful and lush green garden. Join us for a hiking holiday or simply come to relax and enjoy the tranquil area and the outstanding Madeiran climate.

Reviewed By Anrip405Quinta Alegre is absolutely what we were looking for. We based ourselves here for our walking holiday. Reception staff were very welcoming and I instantly felt relaxed upon arrival in this little piece of paradise. Our spacious, sea view room was bright, fresh and very clean. Website photos don’t show the new cream coloured curtains and bedspreads yet which are lovely. As well as having a sea view rooms also overlook the most beautifully kept garden and pool. Side rooms without sea view have lovely views of the garden. Shower had lots of power and there was hot water at all times. At dinner you can opt for the set 3 course menu or choose from the a la carte. Food was outstanding and made freshly everyday with local produce. Jams and preserves all made in hotel’s kitchen. Some vegetables and herbs were from the hotel’s own vegetable garden. The hotel guests are mainly walkers and people who enjoy nature and the outdoors. Exchanging walks and tips with fellow guests was very enjoyable in the evenings. We opted for 2 organised walking tours offered by the hotel. Both guides were friendly, knowledgeable and multilingual and we learned so much about the flora and fauna as well as the island in general. When walking independently Levada Nova is a 45 minute walk uphill from hotel. Lastly the amazing staff make this hotel so special who work hard to ensure all their guests have a wonderful holiday. So well done to everyone, it is very much appreciated. Quinta Alegre surpassed my expectations in every way and we can’t wait to return.
