Fantastic location directly at the fjord (whales visible from the hot tub), great breakfast and dinner, super friendly and helpful staff (they even kept the restaurant open after hours for us when we were delayed on one of our excursions), and the cutest Icelandic horses on property. We will definitely come back with another group next year!

We specialize in the Icelandic Lamb in our restaurant, cooked the traditional way. Lots of activity in the area such as horse riding, hiking paths, museums, churches, handcraft galleries, swimming pool, restaurants, Cow shed cafe, local Ice cream production, farms.

Reviewed By Patricia HThe place is quaint and well kept. Basic room, clean and comfortable. The highlight of the stay was the 3 course dinner, starring Lamb. If you stay here, and you do not eat here, you are missing out on one of the best meals in Iceland.

The guesthouse offers good spacious and tidy rooms with excellent beds. Seventeen twin/double rooms of which five have private bathroom. Common toilets and showers are on each floor and each room includes towels. On the fourth floor is fully equipped kitchen open to all guests. In addition on the same floor, large and bright penthouse apartment with a large living room, a bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and three rooms. The apartment has a large balcony pointing out to the main street, Hafnarstræti.

This year, the guesthouse will be reopened after a break of few years. In the new Engimyri, we want to create a place with a family atmosphere, friendly to people and animals. We offer breakfast with homemade food and a lunch and dinner menu. Our restaurant is open every day from 11:00 to 14:00 (lunch) and from 17:00 to 21:00 (dinner). We cordially invite you to our little end of the world! Animals are always welcome with us! Engimyri Guesthouse is located in the valley of Oxnadalur, right by Highway number 1, only 34 km west of Akureyri. Comfortable rooms are furnished with made up beds and TV's. Hiking trails and other activities The lakes of Hraunsvatn and Thverbrekkuvatn are in walking distance from the Guesthouse, with its ample fishing, free of charge. The scenery in the valley is breathtaking and there is plenty to explore as there are several hiking trails in the vicinity. Hunting is available in the fall and the swimming pool at Thelamork is only 15 minutes away. Guesthouse Engimyri opened on the 6th of june 1992 Oxnadalur is the name of the valley where Engimyri Guesthouse is located. We immediately felt like home in this cosy and friendly guesthouse wiht the beautiful nature surrounding us. And the best part; dogs are welcome here so this was just like being in the country :) The shower was far better than I ever expected, the room big and spacious, the bed good and an excellent breakfast to send us off to the rest of our eventful trip. Horrible check-in process but the place was nice
Reviewed By Chase YTo check in, go first to Hotel Akureyri at Hafnarstræti 67. You'll receive your room number and any instructions there. It was extremely frustrating to check in because Hrafninn has a reception desk with a sign, and our booking on Chase Travel (via Expedia) noted 24/7 reception. Hrafninn does not have a website of its own, so after exhaustive searching, we found one note from a reviewer online that we should go to the other hotel for check-in. The staff member was not receptive to my feedback, even when I tried to explain that all she needed was a small sign at the Hrafninn reception desk. Her defense was that she had been texting...my foreign phone number. Anyway, once this was settled, the room was really nice, contrary to some other reviews here. Towels were provided and amenities were very comparable to other 3-star accommodations we had elsewhere in Iceland. The setting is a charming old manor, so yes, some things have aged but they are still maintained and usable. The only other sketchy bit was our chandelier was hanging by a thread. Final note, there is NOT free parking onsite as advertised on Expedia. The city overall offers free parking from 6pm to 9am, and there is ample street parking, but you will need to pay during business hours.

We had a room at the top floor (4th) and the smell at the staircase was unbearable. Luckily we only stayed ther for one night. I have stayed there occasionally over the years but this was the worst case.

Reviewed By Seasonedtravellers50We stayed here for three nights in order to explore the surrounding area. Having had a long day travelling from Stykkisholmur, we were looking for a comfortable location and this hotel certainly provided that. It is under ten minutes driving from Akureryi and the views from the hotel back are superb. It is quite a small hotel and slightly off the beaten track but it is worth it. We were in an upstairs room which was quite large, being divided in to a sleeping area and a sitting area. We were provided with towelling robes and slippers in order to access the hot tubs on the decking outside. We didn't use this facility but many guests did during our stay there. Our host, Robert, was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was very good and constantly replenished when necessary. Car parking is on site and there are plenty of places to eat in the evening in Akureryi. We used the hotel as a base to tour the Husavik and Lake Myvatn areas which can be easily accessed on quick roads. The great advantage of the hotel for us was that there were no tour groups while we were there, just independent travellers like ourselves.

The owners have managed to squeeze a lot into that tiny house (for context, we have stayed in several similar cottages on this and previous trips to Iceland). Spotlessly clean, comfy beds, well-stocked kitchen, beautiful grounds, friendly owners. And hubby got to see the Northern Lights by simply walking out the front door. Only negative was the large amount of bird droppings on front porch, but we stepped around it - what can you do? It looked like the owner was trying to keep the chairs and table clean. We stayed in Akureyri on our last trip but our toddler loved running around outdoors at Artun. And we all loved the fresh mountain air. We would stay at Artun again in a heartbeat.
