Read about this as being the best ice cream in Iceland in lonely planet. Was also told by my friend who was visiting 1 week before me to try this. the ice cream itself was more icey (similar to sorbet) than soft or creamy- was this the style? not sure. The liquorice dip was unique. You could taste it more if you lick it rather than bite it. I didn't get the chance to try ice cream with liquorice syrup but thats another favourite amongst people visiting here. We did not experience lines but we were there even before the place opened as it was a pit stop for us driving from Egilstaddir back to Reykjavik.

We purposely came here for bread ,croissant or pastries for breakfast, but found only cakes and cookies. The sweet did not look too inviting or tempting. They were just ordinary cakes. The price was not cheap either and no-one even offer to help us. Found nothing to eat and left.

Greifinn

Greifinn is without doubt one of the most popular restaurant in Akureyri . The menu is varied and the prices are moderate. Greifinn is ideal for individuals, groups and families that want to relax over food and drink. We make a point of running a family-friendly restaurant. A diverse menu is on offer with a wide choice of meat and fish courses as well as pasta and some of the most highly praised pizzas in Iceland.

We decided to go out for dinner for 1 night during our 2 week tour of Iceland. We came to this restaurant which was great! Food was fabulous and the staff were friendly. Only negative was our mains came out halfway through our starters. Whether this is a normal thing in Iceland I am not sure because they didn't seem to be taken back when we were still eating our starters. However, the atmosphere was great. We had chicken wings and mozerella sticks to start. We then had a burger and lobster pasta to finish! Very enjoyable evening.

Strikið restaurant is located on the 5th floor in the centre of town, offering a splendid view over the fjord and the new Cultural and Conference house Hof. During summer meal can be enjoyed on the sheltered Terrace adjacent to the restaurant.

In the past this restaurant has been very good and I have had good experiance there on my trips to Akureyri. Therfore I was very disappointed when me and my wife went there this weekend.
We ordered blue mussels for starters. The portion was the smallest I have seen and the taste did not drive me to ask for more.
For main course we had Duck breast with an orange-glace. The meat was tough and the plate very simple with the meat and a few potatos.
The price is just above mid range in comparison with other restaurants but very disappointing experiance I must say.

Noa Seafood Restaurant

Modern relaxed setting, serving fresh local cough seafood and meats. Surrounded by beautiful art and sculptures you can relax with space to enjoy your meal or even just pop in for coffee or a drink in our upstairs lounge. Booking always advised but pop in and relax while we sort you a table.

We dined at Noa’s tonight and the food was absolutely amazing. The wait staff and chef were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress gave us great recommendations. Appetizer of smoked meats was awesome - included horse which was very good and a langostino salad which had a hint of vanilla and star anise - delish. We had the catch of the day, wolffish, and trout. Both were exquisite! Topped off with creme brûlée- again wonderful. Would highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely eat here again.

Bryggjan

A beautiful restaurant in Akureyri, near the harbour.

Reviewed By BruceMac19 - Ringwood, United Kingdom

Slightly away from the other bars and restaurants. Walk past the Hof, the circular concert venue, on the harbour-front and follow the water towards the docks.
Bryggjan is in one of the older buildings in Akureyri, inside it has a pitched dark wood ceiling, and walls and a pretty, well-stocked, bar. Food is fairly standard, with ribs, burger, chicken etc - think a classier TGIFs - but is nicely cooked and served by young, friendly staff, who of course, speak impecable English.
Perfectly pleasant venue.

Te & Kaffi Akureyri

Te & Kaffi in Akureyri is located at one end of the town’s pedestrianised shopping street, inside the Eymundsson bookstore. Despite its in-store location, it is a big café which sells delicious sandwiches, salads and soups; as well as a large selection of pastries, muffins, tarts and more. You can buy coffee beans and have them ground before you take them home, and there is a wide variety of tea and other speciality goods; as well as teapots and cafetières.

Had tea/coffee and cakes here one morning. Nice selection of cakes and around average price for the area. Pleasant surroundings - book shop. Free wifi available to customers. The latte wasn't particularly hot so had to ask for some hot water to be put in which they did.
