Break on the Lake Resort

Wonderful place with a gorgeous view

Reviewed By Debbarlo

My husband and I rented one of the A frame lake front cabins and had the most beautiful views of Cass Lake. The cabins are staggered so that it feels very private when you're sitting on your spacious deck or warming by your campfire. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the grounds are very well maintained. There's a nice beach which I enjoyed sitting on the vacation quality lounge chair reading a magazine or book and hearing waves crashing. My husband loved catching fish off the dock or on the paddle boat. The paddle boats, kayaks and canoes are available at no extra charge and you also get a boat slip with your lakefront cabin rental. They have a fish cleaning station with bait and ice right there at the beach, along with firewood near the pool area. The bar has indoor and outdoor seating with food options being pizza and various snacks like mini tacos, mini reubens, chicken wings, etc. Overall this was a beautiful place and we had a great time! I should also mention that they have a sign on the bar door to wear a mask inside and all staff is masked up as well. Our linens were sanitized prior to our arrival and they are following the covid protocols so we felt very safe. We also enjoyed time on our deck and firepit and were able to social distance while taking in all the beauty of the great outdoors.

Shangri La Resort Cass Lake

2nd Home<3

My family has been coming to Shangri-La every summer for over a decade. This resort is a second home for us and truly a beautiful getaway. My fiancé even proposed to me at Shangri-La this July❤️ The owner, Lori and her son’s Josh & Collin take incredible care of the resort, cabins and the guests!! The cabins are always spotless when we arrive. Shangri-La has 2 pontoons, several kayaks & a couple paddle boats to use. Free firewood for bonfires & smores every night? Location is perfect for sunsets and for rainy days to explore either Bemidji or Walker, MN. *Must also try Dave’s Pizza in Bemidji!!!!! Best pizza ever! Counting down the days until next summer where I am reunited with my family at Shangri-La❣️

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The owners don’t want to be here. Camped here several years when Pati’s son and another couple ran the resort. That was good. They are to lazy to open bathrooms/showers because that would require work. Seasonal campers take care of the place. The previous owners were great. A one star rating is the lowest I could rate it.

Morning Star Resort

Unsafe, Unkept, Unappealing Resort

Reviewed By gree0178

Morningstar is simply not fit for occupation. Do not be fooled by the website and brochure. The following is the true reality of the place: Cabin: Rotting/disintegrating exterior and doors that do not lock properly nor close. Absolutely disgusting fans with grime and build up that we would use or touch even if hot inside cabin. Window a/c that does not look as if it has ever been cleaned or maintained. Extremely uncomfortable/old/stained bed and mattress – akin to a bad pull out couch feel. A couch that is old, worn and saggy and smells like an extreme case of body odor. Unsafe bed for children (or anyone) with sharp metal ledges coming off bed frame(s). Window ac that does not look as if it has ever been cleaned or maintained. Vintage fridge that is rusting out and has gross build-up upon rust…all in a place where you store your food. Bathroom ventilation screen overwhelmed with years upon years of potential mold/mildew and rust buildup. Tap water that is to be questioned whether or not it has been treated/filtered based on appearance and taste and gastrointestinal upset. Sloped cabin flooring and a kitchen table where items roll off of potentially due to a foundation that is visibly cracking. Leaking faucet, broken pots and pans. Location itself that is packed with mobile homes with chain-smoking inhabitants and plumes of their smoke coming into your cabin. Website and grounds map do not accurately depict closeness and sheer number of mobile homes. The main dock is uneven and sloping with many dangers. Also, it is very exposed to any form of west wind and your boat can get beat up even with bumpers. The dock is missing numerous deck boards on dock with exposed rusty nails/screws. There are fixed electrical cords that are submerged in water and are potentially “hot” right near where they have a dock ladder for people to use for jumping and swimming from. “Boat landing” that is nothing more than a slightly depressed area sand near beach with loose rocks and big ruts. There was no sign of concrete or true ramp. The fish cleaning house has screens completely ripped out and is absolutely infested with dangerous wasps, bees and flies. Overall, the grounds are very unkept and this is a site that is overrun with sand. There was no sign of anyone caring for property the days we were there. In fact, we left early and would not stay there for free in future. For similar rates, there has to be much nicer and safer places like Joe’s – which is on same lake with a protected harbor(s) and allows dogs. We contacted Morningstar’s owners George and Cindy with concerns and were completely ignored.

Great Cabins for large groups

Reviewed By jkweebs

We stayed here for the weekend while with a large group of football parents in town for a game. First of all, this place is a great location with views of the lake and a very nice quiet location even though you are close to the highway. The people at the store/check-in area were extremely friendly and helpful. We had forgotten towels and they rented us some even dropping them off at the cabin for us. The cabin itself is amazing. Big enough for a family reunion with a full kitchen and a nice fire pit outside. The rooms were large and everything was very clean. The cabin is attached to the indoor pool which is very convenient especially when it is cold out. I cannot say enough about the accommodations this place is top-notch and it had a twin cabin attached that we even used the same size and design also with a kitchen. Thanks very much for a great place to stay at a very reasonable price in the Bemidji area.

Great family resort

Reviewed By perlie8

We stayed in our camper right out in front of the cabins. We had full water, electrical, and sewer. Our friends rented a cabin which was very cozy. There was a nice dock right out the front of the cabin to park the boats and fish off of. There's a small playground set for the kids. A nice sandy beach and swim area. There's a fish cleaning house that is open all the time and screened in so you don't have bugs. Grocery store and gas station are 5 mins away if you forget anything. It's a small resort so not a lot of people. The lake is smaller so there isn't a huge filtration of boats on the lake. I would recommend this place for family get togethers, people looking to get away and any other reason to go camping.
