Lisa and the other front desk workers were amazing! Very friendly and helpful! So glad we found this gem to visit my son up at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Close to Campus and a good value for the price!

Comfort Inn & Suites

Pack your earplugs

Reviewed By mageeee

I really want to like this hotel. Our son goes to college nearby & it's the closest hotel in the Choice chain, so I'd like to keep earning and using points. We've stayed there seven times since it became a Comfort Inn last summer, and each time the hotel has slid a little further downhill. On the plus side, the rooms have always been clean and the beds comfy. If those are the only two things you care about in a hotel room, it's fine. The phones have not worked ever since we started coming, and to some people, it won't matter, but cell phone reception in WV can be spotty, and sometimes you need a land line. It also helps to have a hotel phone to contact the front desk quickly and easily. If the guests in the room next door keep you awake with their hot, heavy, screaming sex at 3 AM (yes, it really happened to us), it would help to have a phone in the room to de-escalate the situation. It is a cheaply, poorly constructed property, and the noise problem is terrible. The walls are so paper thin that you can hear the guests in the next room changing their mind. Don't even get me started about the hallway noise; it's awful. The noise from the smokers gathering in front of the building is no fun, either. The toilets are so low to the floor that I thought I was going to have to call a wrecker to get up. The breakfast is all prepackaged stuff, and most of it is not exactly healthy. If you want a big breakfast, budget for it and go across the parking lot to the Huddle House. If you want to eat something healthy, bring it with you from home because there aren't that many healthy options. Avoid the milk; it was stored in metal pitchers with no insulation and not kept in the refrigerator. They also should plow their parking lot when it snows. We should have packed ice skates. The next time we come, we'll probably stay over in Weston and sacrifice the convenience of the location for a quiet room and a better night's sleep.

older but nice

We stayed here one night. The staff was friendly and gave us spots to go for supper, we walked down the street to Maggie's. This is an older Inn but well kept. We enjoyed the one night we spent. Luggage must be carried inside and put on a cart but there is an elevator to the second floor.

Gross! Nothing like advertised!

Reviewed By 193angmichS

State 1 night after being too exhausted to drive home after a college event. We stayed in a room diagonal from the office. Our sheets & pillow cases had blood stains, the icky green blankets on both beds were covered in cigarette burn holes. The AC was left on (it was frigid cold outside) so our room was like an ice box & I'm never cold! Blankets were thin & not sufficient. The TV & everything was plugged into a nonworking outlet. We had to pull the entire console out (which the top lifted off of) to plug it into another outlet. They had numerous cords going to 1 old extension. The AC/Heat remote didn't work, had to stand on a chair to operate. The TV remote batteries were dead. Girl in the office brought us new batteries, but they also died within minutes or the remote was bad. Only one side of the remote would work so it got stuck on a TV station & volume would only go up, not down. I was so exhausted I just left it on some opera singing that later woke me, it turned into some sort of religious music, all louder than comfortable because I didn't want to get up in the freezing cold room, turn on the lighting that was dull, & try to fish around behind the TV to find the sticky 'off' button that's on the back. The remotes had what looked like brownie chunks on it -- I can only hope that's what it was and not poop! NOT clean! I draped my shirt over the back of the chair & in the morning there was something brown all over it! The phone's paper directory under the plastic protective layer wasn't visible due to liquid ruining it. I don't mind a firm mattress, but these were like rocks. The box-spring cover was just gross! Looked like it had been in a house fire. Basically every surface was gross! Carpet was some old commercial carpet that I didn't dare touch with my bare feet. The room had a weird hollow sound walking in it & the floor wasn't level. Fridge smelled musty too & was dingy and a little rusty looking. The pros: the towels were actually nice & the place was quiet when we were there. Ample parking. I don't know when the photos advertised were listed, but they should update them with their "other" rooms so you know what you're getting! I've stayed in hotels & motels & none were so dirty, drafty (that musty mildew-like smell too), & just all around not as advertised. I would much rather sleep in my car next time, it's clean & warm. This site will only allow me to upload 10 pictures.

liked everything about the place

it was very clean, very friendly hosts, 1 block from the Main Street of town. It is not a chain; if you like predicability and uniformity, then go to a chain. I don't know why trip advisor demands 200 words. I have said it all.

Colonial Hotel-Motel

Basic room with friendly staff

Reviewed By carol l

In Buckhannon for my sons graduation from WVWC and stayed at Colonial. An old fashioned motel that could do with updating. Room was clean and nicely presented. Close to all amenities with friendly staff and locals.
