My daughter loves this place. So many possibilities and even for adults it's fun to take a couple of rounds. Some of the slides might even seem too scary for an adult ;-)
Of course there a a lot of people and noice, but what else to expect in a place like this!

Frederiksborg Castle

This historic castle was constructed on three Islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful Gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

If you are visiting in winter, the castle closes at 3pm. This is due to the lack of daylight. Rooms 1-36 are the best (beginning with the Chapel and ending with the Great Hall. The rooms are lavishly decorated. The castle grounds are impressive and beautiful. Allow an hour to tour the castle. We were rushed through in only 30 minutes because of the early closing time. See the castle first and then tour the grounds. The grounds stay open later. IMPORTANT: You must pay to park here. The parking sign and payment kiosk are not at all obvious. We did not see them upon our arrival and returned to find a 650K/$100 USD ticket on our windshield! The ticket agent sits in the parking lot waiting for tourists not to notice that they have to pay. Don’t forget. It is 20k for 2 hours. Castle Ticket is included on your Copenhagen Card.

A little known fact about the Danish Parliament and palace buildings is that they are mostly publicly owned, meaning that anyone - locals, travellers, and tourists - can go up the tower free of charge.
They limit the groups to forty people at maximum though, so the wait time can be quite long. This does have the bright side of making it nice and simple at the top with fewer crowds to detract from the experience. They send the rgroups up forty at a time, instead of just letting people go up and down as they wish; so you could get lucky and go up right away, or you could be unlucky and have to wait for an unspecified amount of time. My partner and I waited 45 minutes one day before giving up, and the next day when we decided to give it another try we were let up in fewer than 30. The wait time is also increased by the increased security presence and bag searches just inside the main entrance - surely they could do this whilst people wait in the queue?
We were shepherded up to the roof straight away rather too quickly, I think, but once we were at the top we had free reign over the place including the lower floors and the small museum that were skipped over on our way up. There is a guide book handed out which is nice and informative, in both Danish and English. However, it is a shame that, in regards to the view, they only give you the name of the buildings and landmarks instead of a description on what they are for. It is also shame that the main room at the top is mostly modern white panelling, at least as far as the visitors can see, instead of the historic structure.
The museum and statue room was quite interesting as well, though the "art installation" (holographic pidgeons doing holographic poos and dropping holographic feathers whilst sound effects play) was nothing more than an irritation whilst one tried to enjoy the history.

This chapel is magnificent. It's unbelievable, and was lucky to escape being demolished by fire, when other parts of the castle were badly burnt in the 1800s. The amount of interior decoration, the beautiful organ, the shields on the walls and those extraordinary paintings make this chapel one of the greatest tourist attractions in Denmark.

J.F. Willumsens Museum

J.F. Willumsens Museum is an art museum located in Frederikssund. The museum contains the entire J.F. Willumsen's collection of works of art. Willumsen donated, in 1947, his entire collection of art to the Danish state which contains both Willumsen's own works, but also his own art collection holding 2000 pieces og art, photographs, books, letters, diaries, notes and records. The museum's original building, was built in 1957 by architect Thyge Hvass. In 2005 the museum was expanded and now contains nine exhibition halls, a junior museum, open magazines and a self-service café.

Reviewed By Gunnar G - Copenhagen, Denmark

This is the museum of the Danish multi-artist JF Willumsen, who lived from 1863 to 1958, and thus following the developments in Modern Art. He lived most of his life outside Denmark, among other in France and Italy, but he is not as well known internationally as e.g. the Skagen painters (Krøyer, Ancher) or Hammershøi. He worked very systematically with colours, however without documenting his own colour theory. For the time being (until august 2016) the museum has an excellent special exhibition focusing on Willumsens radical use of colours. It has been made in cooperation with a paint company and in several of the exhibition rooms the walls have been painted in a colour matching the colours of the paintings in that particular room. This gives a fresh and new impression of the work of Willumsen. The museum can be reached from Copenhagen by S-train (appr 50 minutes) and after that a 20 minute walk. The museum has an informative website in English. When visiting the museum also remember to walk to the nearby fjord with the bridge.
