Hotel Colon

There are certain pleasures that are only available to those that stay at the Hotel Colón. For example, waking up early in the morning, crossing over to the window, pulling aside the curtains, and seeing the image of the Barcelona Cathedral bathed in the sun’s first rays. It’s an image that will fill you with energy throughout the whole day! Many of our 129 rooms in the hotel offer this privilege, in addition to amenities such as air-conditioning, telephone, LCD television with international channels, high-speed Internet, safety deposit box, a well-stocked mini-bar, and the finishing touches of a 4 star hotel. If you are traveling for leisure, after a nice shower and a full breakfast, you’ll find it convenient to have the main tourist attractions within walking distance. If you are traveling for professional reasons, having two ample lounges at your disposal offers you infinite options for any event, convention, business meeting, or celebration. In both cases, it’s good to know that, for lunch or dinner, you can depend on the excellent service at the Cathedral 1951 restaurant. All of these reasons make a stay at the Hotel Colón unforgettable. What more can you ask of a hotel?

Wow, I just had the most amazing stay at the W Barcelona. I was initially apprehensive as the night before I was about to leave, I noticed a flurry of one and two star reviews on Tripadvisor. I then called the W and their Guest Relations was kind enough to spend 10 mins with me on the phone (bear in mind I had already paid and couldn't cancel) as I asked what was true from those reviews and what wasn't. The reviews there aren't entirely truthful. For example, one says the public are allowed into the pool area. Well, there are two pools, the Wet Deck and the Sun Deck for hotel guests only. This is the majority of the area. There's also a pretty large area without a pool that the public can rent for a pretty large fee. IN the entire week I was there, absolutely no issue with the public entering and taking sun beds or space that hotel guests could not get. Now that's out of the way, let's get to the stay itself. I stayed for a week from the end of may to the end of the first week in June. I am a Marriott Gold member and on arrival I was upgraded to a Wonderful room on the 11th floor. Paulo on check in was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet. I slept well in the bed and the rain shower was bliss after a day in the sun. Throughout the week, little gifts were left in the room like multiple bottles of water, a box of chocolates, Innocent smoothies and a cake the day before I was to check out. Jordi gave me some great tips when I asked how to maximise my fun at the hotel. I spent two full days by the pool and numerous mornings. The food is pricey but it's decent and I was happy to pay for not having to move and enjoy the sun. I want to give a huge thanks to Lucas, Charlotte, Charleen and Vanessa who were all very friendly, attentive and fun to be around. Great servers who made the times by the pool that much better. The gym is well equipped which is something I'm not used to in even high end 5 star hotels. A good free weights section, running machines and Technogym equipment. All I care about is Swiss Balls and free weights section so it suited me just find. Thinking about it now, I am already planning when I can go back next year. Thank you W staff for making it one to remember.

Very good family all inclusive

Reviewed By fitz24

Pros - Very good all inclusive hotels one of best we have stayed at in Spain so far. the food is good wide variety , Al a cart was very nice and the snack bar great too. We had a junior suite with 7 and. 2 year old lots of space rooms cleaned everyday, fridge in room -very handy and free pool towels! Robes and slippers provided nice . It is a very clean hotel the grounds are beautiful well maintained. Beach very close and really nice. Evening entertainment very good are favourite was Brazil night and mini disco. Jet 2 rep with blonde hair and glasses was super helpful and friendly nothing to much trouble. Cons - access to splash park is very difficult with a buggy you have to go over a rocky muddy hill and carry the buggy up the steps and you can’t gain access via the revolving door -you have to wait for bar staff to let you in who are very grumpy as they are busy. They should build a bridge and a wide door for family/disability access. Dinner time is late -19.30pm with children is such a long time to wait after a busy day - we never went the snack bar as access to the splash park was so difficult with are children we just hung around till dinner opened. Older Bar staff -2 lady’s and man at the main pool/bar are super grumpy very unfriendly and actually put me off ordering a drink. Other than that very good hotel would recommend to others .

Just ok

Reviewed By davina1979lee

The hotel is ok, pretty much what you would expect for an average spainish holiday. I wouldn't class it as 4 star, 3 at best. The food was pretty good, got a little repetitive after a week. However the restaurant is absolute chaos at peak times and it seems that rather than approaching the hot buffet and getting the item you want, people insisted on queuing the whole way around it, which I found bizarre. They do give you time slots but it doesn't seem like anyone takes any notice. Luckily we had booked an apartment and were in block 8 which had its own pool. The pool at the main building was carnage, towels down by 7.30am, some left out from the night before, despite the notices saying it wasn't allowed. Luckily the pool at our block was much quieter. Personally I couldn't have stood the noise at the main pool. There is an indoor pool but you are required to wear a swim hat which is a strange rule I have never come across, plus I can't get my hair in one so we didn't bother. The evening entertainment was a mixed bag. The thing that really spoiled it was the gangs of little brats running riot while their parents drank at the bar. I don't mind kids being kids but this was on another level and nothing was done about it. The bar menu was very limited, hardly any cocktails on the all inclusive just basic spirits and only beer or sangria at the restaurant, no wine offered. Overall, we wouldn't return, this holiday cost us £3500 for 3 people for a week and it was not worth it.

Gay Beach Bunnies BE WARNED!

Reviewed By Robert H

I wrote a review having stayed here some years ago, and swore I would not go back, however I did but a couple of points ........ The hotel is nice, BUT very poorly located, still a good 20 minute walk (and I walk quickly) from the centre of town with all the bars and clubs, and I still would not walk back here late at night, and certainly not on my own! The local beach - Balmins - which is what I went for this time was also a major disappointment with hardly any sand, no sun loungers, parasols, and the bar that is normally on the sand was just not there. It seems the environmental lobby has got hold of the Council and there will be no more support for enhancing the experience of gay nudists ..... a sandy beach appears to be a thing of the past, and you can no longer walk the length of the beach, without getting completely wet, even if you are trying to find a spot on which to sit! Unless something is done about the beach it is not worth staying here as there is nothing around the hotel apart from the marina .... stay further in town, and you will have to use a normal beach - sorry, but your stay will be better! The Hotel could of course make representations to the Council to help improve things, but I will not hold my breath as they would prefer people to sit by their pool and sip cocktails!
