The 10 best Resorts in Brittany, France

April 25, 2023 Kaleigh Reichenbach

Brittany's dramatic 750-mile coastline traces a rugged hem against the chilly Atlantic. Attractions such as St-Malo's 1689 Fort National, the prehistoric ruins and striking beauty of Gavrinish Island and Brest's Oceanopolis aquarium cling to the rocky shoreline of France's most northwestern province. Nantes, Rennes and Brest are the largest cities. Rennes is just two hours from Paris by TGV. Breton and Gallo, the ancient languages of this Celtic province, are still spoken in pockets throughout the area.

Lovely Saint-Malo Hotel

This hotel is well situated facing the ocean allowing for a nice walk on the beach, a stroll into town or a great workout along the ramparts. I would highly suggest booking a room on the top two floors. We were on the second floor and although our visit was not during a busy time/season, I can see where things could be noisy during the summer. The street below is well traveled. I am giving this hotel 4 stars because while very nice, there is room for improvement. Room size was nice with enough space to hang and store clothing and bed was very comfortable. Our room had a separate toilet area but it was almost impossible to use it and be able to close the door. Badly designed and could be difficult for others. Also, they have not upgraded their hairdryers to unattached free-held units. The attached wall unit with the power button you must constantly hold while drying is tiring and archaic. I did appreciate the non-slip tile in the shower. Lastly, don’t waste your money on the breakfast. The offerings are very pedestrian and the croissants were tasteless. Regarding their on-site lounge and restaurant, both are well worth a visit. Wonderful cocktail offerings in the lounge which offers great views. The restaurant turns out innovative, flavorful, creative dishes and the service is impeccable.

This is a beautiful hotel located on the beach facing the Channel. They have terrific restaurant with view, service and top notch food. The windows face the sea. Be sure to get a room that faces the water. Watch the sunrise, the sunset, the wind surfers, and the tide coming in and out. A very manageable walk along the water to the village of St Malo or on the side streets lined with wonderful restaurants.

Excellent hotel but menu in restaurant not for us.......

Reviewed By wooster1

This hotel is located in a wonderful position overlooking a beach which seems to stretch forever with a gentle lapping sea. Two minutes down the road there are shops and cafes. Our room was a good size with a door to the balcony. The bathroom had a safety rail and rubber mat for the bath and a separate toilet which was a bonus if anyone was washing at the basin. There was also a sink for coffee/tea making facilities. Everywhere was spotless and the cleaners kept it so. All staff, particularly at Reception were efficient and helpful. The restaurant however, was not to our taste. The first night I had fish on black rice with a not very pleasant sauce. A French lady at the next table agreed that she didn't like it either and to send it back. I didn't but we ate out henceforth. We would certainly return but next time take a French dictionary for the restaurant!

We stayed at la Gree des Landes for a couple of days and we were enchanted by the place, but, most of all by the cuisine. The new chef is extremely inventive and taking the most of the local product, true to the eco hotel mission. Dishes are as tasty and fresh as they would look stunning stunning on instagram. The hotel is nice, the service is helpful and relaxad (sometimes a bit too much). Amenities are also in line with the eco hotel definition (for instance: no air con).

Perfect location

Reviewed By monad538

We were a party of tree travelling together and booked into one of the duplex rooms. The rooms are not extra big but very functional. The staircase is quite steep but ok. The Airconditioning is perfectly positioned and extra silent. We loved the location right in front of the sea and only a mere 20 minute stroll on the beach into the historical center of Saint Malo. The breakfast was not exceptional but ok. The main issue is that the breakfast room is very small and at some times it really gets busy. We used the hotel parking which is quite expensive at 20€/day. All in all a nice location if you want to be close to the historical center and right on a beautiful beach.

Great refurbishment of traditional hotel

Great location within old Saint Malo walled city opposite Hotel De Ville. Parking available (need to book in advance). Stayed in this hotel 7 years ago when it was very tired. It has since had a great refurbishment mixing the original features with funky new decor. Great job. Best to get a sea facing room on floor 4 or above to get the spectacular views over the ramparts out to sea. Great bar area inside and out and a super restored breakfast room serving a good breakfast. Rooms also refurbished with modern decor and nice bathrooms. Reception staff super helpful, especially when mislaid some documents they went over and beyond to help. Great location for a stay in Saint Malo old city. Highly recommended.
