Fantastic place to rest from the daily stress

It is a fantastic place to spend a few days in communion with nature. Edxiste a series of pedestrian routes that can be done and that lead us to enjoy the Alentejo landscape. Being inside the Natural Park you can find on your walks, gáves, foxes, hares, wild boars, griffins and hawks .... Before we went to sleep we saw the sky ... it's a fantastic place to see the stars.

Management stole my money

Reviewed By Foffin

Accommodation tried to rip me off. First, I booked the accommodation via booking.com with the option to cancel for free and was informed about a price spike during the dates I booked and for which I already received a booking confirmation. Nonetheless, I agreed to pay the 40%(!) higher rate for the dates I wanted. A down payment of 210€ was required as a direct transfer to the accommodation. When I cancelled the accommodation within the free cancellation period, Estela (host of Casa de David) had the audacity to simply ignore my messages and not even inform me about the fact that she thought there is no free cancellation. Hence, I engaged the booking.com support who seemed to struggle to manage to resolve this with the accommodation themselves. After long back and forth, I was offered a voucher for future use at Casa de David. Obviously, I would never ever stay at a place with such management in the future and threatened legal actions against booking.com after which I was credited the missing amount from booking.com. The tale has it that the poor customer support agent who needed to work on this is still trying to make Estela pay back the stolen money. I have stayed in many many hotels and this tops the worst of the worst in terms of shittyness. I highly recommend you to look for an alternative accommodation or simply camp outside the village before you resort to this place.

Staying here was a real treat

Reviewed By peter e

We only stayed for 1 night but is was a real treat. The beautiful room with everything that you need, the farm, the scenery around it and especially the beautiful and delicious vegan breakfast that Catarina prepared for us. We planned a 5-day mountainbiking trip starting in Castelo Novo. We could leave our car in the shade for the days that we were gone. When we wanted to leave I could not find my helmet, apparently I forgot to take it with me. But Cristina saved me with the helmet from her son, not so sexy but it fitted and I could go on my trip.. The service here is really amazing and everyone so friendly. All in all a 5-star start of our holiday. Thank you Cristina and team!

Holiday in Portugal

Reviewed By Johan W

We had booked a one night stop at Casas do Almourao on our round trip in Portugal. It is located in a breathtakingly beautiful park area with high mountains and deep valleys. Casas de Almourao offers living in a few 5? semi attached modern houses. They are well equipped and you have a great view from the balcony overlooking the walley. We where warmly greeted by the owners and did really enjoy our stay here. Our only regret was that we had not more than one night. Next time we will stay longer.

Window display rooms with a tobacco smell

Reviewed By saraconstanca

First of all I have to say that we truly appreciated the availability and professionalism of the couple running this three room lodging house. I would definitely not say it's rural tourism and there is no reason to stay more than one night, after having seen the place first hand, besides the low rates or having a taste for it. The hosts were so nice and welcoming that is really hard to say any bad things about Kazas do SeRado, but the truth is there are a few things that future guests should know before deciding whether going to stay there or somewhere else. We were traveling, needed a place to rest in the last minute and this seemed to be that. I wasn't thrilled with the images of the rooms, that looked more like they were done structurally without an idea of what the result would be, with a mobile closet and a chair almost hidden on the side. The room was spacious but not tasteful as some reviews point out. There are nice elements on the foyer and the small stone house, integrated in the left of the property house with the rooms in the middle, where we had our breakfast, is very charming even if not well preserved in it's old heritage. We are not smokers and though smoking is not aloud in the rooms, once we got in, there was a foul stench of tobacco. The other rooms were occupied so there was nothing they could do about it. The solution was to open a window so we could have fresh air coming in but these rooms had no windows. This was not something we could quickly see in the picture because we booked it during the car journey as we got tired. Did I say the room had no windows...? So disappointing... Instead of windows the wall we came into the room was like a window display to the courtyard. So, besides not having windows but a glass door on a glass wall we also didn't have any really privacy. We needed to open a window and there was only that glass door with no view to justify being glass. It felt like we were trapped in a shop of a shopping mall, to say the least. The bathroom was really big but had no bidet, which was strange because the pipes were there. They just didn't install one and left the pre installation visible. The bathroom had a small basculating window that was not enough to give us some relief from the heavy air inside and no curtain also to prevent light from coming in. Light that also came from under the curtains on the window display. Outside there was a very strong light turned on all night so we just couldn't really darken the room. We considered opening the door as this was clearly a trusting place with nice people hosting, but as soon as we did it a cat came to us and we realized it was not possible to keep it open because of cat allergies. And I'm going to stop right here because this is reason enough not to go back there. There were other minor issues not relevant to our goal, which was resting, so we could continue fully enjoying our journey. It was a disaster, we got out as tired as we got in. Had very little sleep with trouble breathing. Having said all this, you'll be warmly welcomed and I'm sure it can be a good experience if you don't mind any of the issues we found.

All the stars for the restaurant...

Reviewed By farierep

I was near Covilhã and a friend recommended me the hotel's restaurant. I was expecting good and traditional food but boy, the occasion was 5 stars from the moment I've arrived until the bill was paid. Pero Viseu is a small village with a couple of also small roads surrounded with recovered stone houses so don't expect to find any movement that could lead you to the place. Look carefully and follow the signs that say Hotel. If the door is closed and you find a paper on it saying "we are sorry but the bar is closed to the public" (O bar não está aberto ao público" please don't hesitate: just push and enter ;-) The restaurant is there around the corner. I was invited to enter and welcome to choose any table. The restaurant was empty but just for 20 minutes more. After that it was packed. Sign of good food and good value for money. 12,50€ for a complete meal. Couverts - delicious cheese, soup, main dish, 1.5l of water, 0.5l of wine, dessert, coffee, tons of sympathy and smiles! All the stars go for the experience. By the way, I've had Naco with pepper sauce, vegetables, and Pudim Abade de Priscos! This one is the best Portuguese dessert: a sugar and eggs bomb. Unforgettable dinner it was.
