This comfortable family-run gite ("RandoAccueil" **) in a handsomely restored Napoleonic building is situated in the heart of Barèges, a small traditional mountain village in the Pyrenees.The Oasis is the ideal base for a good value holiday (for walkers, skieurs, families, groups...) in a friendly and relaxed cosmopolitan ambience.Our comfortable gite has 10 bedrooms with 4 or 6 beds, all with shower and washbasin and six of the rooms have a small balcony with mountain views.There is also one dormitory for 12 people (with 2 showers/washbasins and balcony).Downstairs is a small lounge with an open-log fire and a little games room.Accommodation is available on a half-board basis with a tasty home-cooked meal (3-course) in our convivial dining room and a substantial breakfast.

Reviewed By nico72015We stayed at many gites and small hotels in the Pyrenees and this one sucks. The most unfriendly and unhelpful owners. Treated us with contempt from the start. Opened door on the room without knocking, for an unknown reason. Begrudged me having an extra yogurt pot at breakfast. I'd have been quite happy paying extra. Wouldn't do coffee after dinner. No sheets available. Shower you can't pick the soap up in if you drop it. AVOID.

charming hotel serving excellent food

This hotel is well named as it is in the centre of the this very charming village right opposite the ski bus stop and tourist office. The hotel itself is clean and beautifully decorated throughout and the owners have a good eye for detail. Our room was not particularly large but very comfortable. The highlight for us was the food. We stayed on a half board basis and the food on both the set menus and the a la carte menu was excellent, beautifully presented and delicious. The wine list was varied and reasonably priced. We had some of the recommended local wines which were excellent.. So all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be visiting again.

Reviewed By Fell-O_TravellerUKWhat a fantastic place to stay. You will get both brilliant friendly service and also fantastic food, assuming you eat here. Plus it is very very good value for money. Nathalie & Philippe are always very keen to ensure their guests have a great time, and will offer whatever tips or advice is needed. They were very good in allowing us a eat a bit earlier than usual as we were often ready to eat after a good day on the slopes. They can also offer great tips or suitable places to go, such as the outdoor heated Spa at Cauterets, or the Cique at Gavarnie. We speak a little french, but they were both very good at explaining things in English when required. The level of catering which comes from the kitchen is fantastic. For 18 Euros you get 4 amazing courses of Restaurant quality food. It was tasty, beautifully presented and varied as well. You wont find better by going out for sure. This is a good few steps above most food we have had from mid-range hotel set menus before. The hotel is just at the lower edge of the village, but the place isnt big so its only 200m or so to the centre. If you are skiing here then you can get a skibus up to the main lifts at Tournaboup - this seems to run about every 30 minutes. When we came there was hardly any snow below 1800m so it was easier to drive the 5km up to Tournaboup, but there is the free bus if you dont have a car. If you do have a car it is under 1hours drive from Lourdes airport, which is very convenient. Also the hotel is only 2 star, so dont expect huge rooms and onsite spa etc. What you do get is nicely decorated and maintained rooms and welcome little extras like free tea & coffee, access to telescopes & lots of books, map & games as required. We will definitely look to try and stay here again in the future.

The Les Sorbiers building is a Napoleonic era structure which we have restored and tastefully decorated. We offer a relaxed and comfortable stay in an area full of activities including cycling,mountain biking, walking, skiing and birding.

Reviewed By Londontraveler2Our stay at Les Sorbiers was superior in every way. First, the skiing in Bareges is awesome. We enjoyed our 4 days on the slopes. The best reccomendation came from our hosts son Daniel, who told me to ski the Panoramic piste - and it was truly awe inspiring views of the mountains. Our hosts were incredible. Brendan and Marie, plus their son Daniel, who formed a fast friendship with the 3 children in our group. Nothing was a problem: Airport pickups, ski-rentals sorted, ski passes, early check-in, amazing breakfasts and dinners, dinner reservations elsewhere, spa reservations, etc. With the full service, on our first day, we took an 8 am flight from Stansted and were on the slopes by 2 pm for 3 hours of skiing and return back to Les Sorbiers for a beer and then a delicious dinner of Raclette. Each day started with delicious sustenance at breakfast: croissants, baguettes, charcuterie, cheese, fruit, yogurt and fresh baked treats. The rooms, which are small and perfectly formed, fit the 3 of us. The beds were super comfortable, especially after a hard day skiing.

Decorated with parquet and wooden furniture, rooms are equipped with DTT TV - free USB key, WiFi, phones. Certain rooms offer a view on the mountain. The hotel has a restaurant serving a traditional French cuisine. After the breakfast, you can relax in the corner of reading or watch TV in the shared lounge. The additional equipment includes a ski storage. The mountain Peak of Noon is in 18 km of this hotel and the station of Heavy to 40 km. A free public parking lot is available nearby. a DUD - draughty unfriendly dull
Reviewed By johnmN8879HKA poor experience here. Thought we go up the mountain (walkers not skiers) and led by the overarching reviews we booked this hotel. First the good - it is in the centre of town though the claim to have 'free parking' makes one cynical - it is on the street like everyone else in town. The building has been redecorated and is brighter than you usual French family run hotel (-4watt bulbs ;-) ) but the windows are still draughty if your bed is close to one- and rooms are cramped The water as another reporter commented takes an age to become hot but its an old building which has been redecorated rather than refurbished. All in all do not expect a standard even close to your average 'chain' it's a skiers doss place which as an asset is sweated fro every sou in a short and difficult season. We took one evening meal - no choice no menu but a well cooked family 4 courses - a tad overpriced compared with neighbouring restaurants, On arrival we were greeted with a list of rules rather than a smile - hey ho each their own when it comes to judging friendliness and we do try to engage and do speak the language. During our short stay my wife broke here patella in a fall (up the mountain) On leaving there was a lot of jollity about it (I suppose they take breaks in their stride so to speak) but there wasn't a single offer of assistance even a gesture unlike the restaurant over the road - NO I am sorry I cannot consider this place friendly. Draughty, Unfriendly, Dull DUD.

Picturesque location on the river

A short walk from the campsite up into the mountains takes you to a fabulous lookout and farm where you can buy a beer, hot or cold drinks and crepes. Reception very friendly and helpful with hiking tips and facilities clean. Hard to fault it.

Une grande chambre avec un charme à l'ancienne, très propre et bien équipée pour plusieurs jours. Petits bémols : le matelas un peu dur et l'insonorisation intérieure. Petit-déjeuner correct, servi dans la chambre. De la documentation et un petit salon. Surtout, une situation idéale, près des commerces, du meilleur restaurant, des navettes et des thermes.

Reviewed By RRMKentSmall, dark rooms in a run down hotel. Had to fix the toilet flush each time and it was obviously an ongoing problem that hadn't been fixed. Hotel staff friendly. Food totally uninspiring but OK. we stayed here through Macs Adventures but from past experience there are certainly far better places to stay in Bareges and without much price difference.
