Fabulous Hotel - Amazing Staff.

We spent a week in Tossa de Mar in May and it was our first visit to the Costa Brava, We did quite a bit of research on places to stay as Tossa de Mar has an abundance of hotels and places to stay, in the end we decided to stay in the ‘ Golden Bahia ‘on a half - board basis and we definitely made the right decision as it surpassed all our expectations . The beautiful hotel and town are only a 40 minute journey from Girona Airport. This is a beautiful hotel only about a ten minute stroll to the old town and the castle which has such wonderful views out to sea , the old town itself has so many lovely restaurants, it is truly an idyllic place. The rooms in the hotel were lovely and spacious and kept spotlessly clean, the pool area was lovely with plenty of sun beds and the sports pool and kiddies boat/ slide pool were at one end which made it lovely if you just wanted to lie by the pool and read a book in the pool area nearer the restaurants. We travel occasionally and I can honestly say the food in the hotel was fantastic both at breakfast and in the evening where there were many choices and the chef also show cooking in the evenings.. One of the best parts of this hotel were the amazing staff which make you feel so welcome, don’t want to single out anyone really but we had most dealings with Ferran & Simon at reception whom were so helpful, Jose and Anna in restaurant , Angel and Ray in the bars, Ester who looked after our room , thanking you and the rest of the staff for making our holiday so memorable. A special word of thanks to Ferran for all his correspondence prior to our visit . We will definitely be returning to ‘Golden Bahia’ and will be recommending to all our family and friends, thanking you all again for a wonderful relaxing break Anne and Mike , Ireland

Just what we needed!

Reviewed By PixieIsla

Firstly I consider ourselves very lucky in the fact that we even got away on our family holiday given all the airport chaos! The buildup was stressful and so overall I don’t want to or feel like we can complain about anything really. It’s the first holiday abroad we’ve done with our young children and it ticked all the boxes, we just wanted some time together in the sun with as little amount of stress as possible. Long gone are the days of a remote or adventurous five star honeymoon resort… what used to be top on the list of my priorities are very different going as a family. We chose the hotel because it was ten minutes from the airport, is walking distance to the town and the beach. All of these means it caters very well to families. The only negative thing I can say is that I was a little disappointed in our room. Given the fact that the hotel is four stars it just felt a little tired and in need of freshening up but the bedsheets were clean and if you want you can have fresh bath towels everyday. All the hotel staff are amazing- very attentive and approachable. From the reception team, the housekeeping, the bar staff and the restaurant waiters. The entertainment team create a great holiday atmosphere and seem to really enjoy what they’re doing. We stayed half board and I would say that the choice of food is vast and varied and seemed to cater for all dietary requirements. We didn’t have a bad meal time. All the tables are very clean and well presented. Staff are attentive and constantly removing plates that are finished with. It did became tiresome sometimes but with young children just makes sense and is far easier than going out to a restaurant every day. Everyone can just suit themselves and it’s all ready to help yourself. The pool is bigger than I was expecting and there were plenty of loungers. One thing I was expecting were towels for the pool however the only way you can get them is to hire them from the spa at €10 each deposit cash and you have to pay €1 each time you want a fresh one. Overall we’ve had a brilliant first family holiday abroad and it’s largely down to the hard work of the hotel and it’s staff. Salou is a lovey easy family friendly place to visit and it ticks all the boxes. We felt very safe and welcome.

Disappointing

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights at the end of May. The room was great with a lovely view of La Pineda beach and was clean. There was no kettle but there was a coffee machine with one cup each. We found the food to be limited. There wasn’t much choice, no where near the selection we’ve had on previous holidays. We stayed all inclusive but certainly wouldn’t bother with that here. There was only one choice of cocktail per day, which the hotel chose and unless you wanted to pay extra, we didn’t as we’d already paid for AI, you could only have that! We found the hotel to be very tight on AI, even getting water from the bar at night to take to your room was a problem! Unfortunately we had to leave early as I was very unwell and when landing back in U.K. we went straight to the local hospital where my blood tests pointed to having contracted E. coli. I can’t say for certain this was the hotels fault as we ate out once in Salou. As for the pool I for one didn’t smell chlorine at all so who knows?!

This is a fantastic hotel especially for families with children. 5 minute walk to shops/bars/restaurants and about 10 minutes to the beach (out the main exit, take a left and then first right or carry on up for bus stop to Cambrils and more dining places. There is a little funfair in the centre and arcades for the kids too. Staff: very friendly and helpful. All speak very good english. The dining room staff are lovely, Ana on the front of house is a lovely lady, all the waiting staff loved my 7 month old and would entertain him whilst i got my other child his meals. Bar staff are friendly and look after you well. The kids club/entertainment staff are faultless they work from early til late each day to make sure everyone is catered for. Great competitions in the day for all ages, aquagym, kids club etc. and a minidisco at night - this starts at 8:45pm so always made sure my son had a teatime siesta! Food/drink: we were all inclusive and was worth every penny. Like any all inclusive it can get a little repetitive but there is a good selection and something for everyone. Children’s food at lunch/dinner such as pasta and either meat/plain sauce, pizza, fries etc. The snackbar is good too as my little boy was too busy playing in the pool to want a “sit down” meal. Breakfast time there are omelettes made fresh with your choice of filling and staff are happy to make toasties for you too etc. Drinks - slushies for the kids of all flavours, soft drinks, named alcohol such as Strongbow cider, Guinness, the lager is Cruz Campo. Bar staff are brilliant they work day and night to make sure we are catered for. They offer a waiter service round the pool too. Drinks not included have a small charge of around €1.80 and cocktails €5 - snacks such as crisps/nuts and certain ice creams also have a small charge but there is a good selection of ice creams on the AI Rooms - lovely and clean. Kettle, microwave, fridge and sink which was handy having a baby still on bottles. Safes are available from reception for a small returnable deposit. Rooms cleaned and towels changed daily. Great air con system. Outdoor: great pools although a little cold at first but do warm up as the afternoon comes. Great splash pool for little ones, larger pool where games and aquagym take place. Ping pong tables, pool tables and football/tennis court. Playgrounds for the kids all well maintained. The indoor pool is slightly warmer on the basement floor and there is another small childrens pool upstairs on the decking which is quite warm. Lots of sunbeds but the pool sides fill up VERY quickly with towels - pool opens at 8am and people flock to put their towels in “their” spot but we managed to get a bed no problem even in the afternoons - just not poolside which can be a pain with little children - but if u want to be near a pool i suggest you get up early! Entertainment: as mentioned, the entertainment staff and Tui kids club are amazing! They start early morning and dont finish until closing at night! They are great with the kids, remembering all their names and trying to engage them. My 3yr old is quite shy and they would all encourage him which was lovely. The main acts of a night some were a little bit comedic for the wrong reasons but karaoke night and the singing artists are brilliant! All in all we have loved our stay here and cannot fault the hotel or its staff. I would 100% recommend and will hopefully return again!

Then we asked if there was a place on the property our dog could chill out for just for a couple hours, again we were met with indifference and they could not have cared less. Then when we walked in to the room we had it reales of mildew and they picture should explain why. The rooms are not clean and not well taken care of. This is certainly not a 4 star and I will not come back. Think twice before staying here

Very good family all inclusive

Pros - Very good all inclusive hotels one of best we have stayed at in Spain so far. the food is good wide variety , Al a cart was very nice and the snack bar great too. We had a junior suite with 7 and. 2 year old lots of space rooms cleaned everyday, fridge in room -very handy and free pool towels! Robes and slippers provided nice . It is a very clean hotel the grounds are beautiful well maintained. Beach very close and really nice. Evening entertainment very good are favourite was Brazil night and mini disco. Jet 2 rep with blonde hair and glasses was super helpful and friendly nothing to much trouble. Cons - access to splash park is very difficult with a buggy you have to go over a rocky muddy hill and carry the buggy up the steps and you can’t gain access via the revolving door -you have to wait for bar staff to let you in who are very grumpy as they are busy. They should build a bridge and a wide door for family/disability access. Dinner time is late -19.30pm with children is such a long time to wait after a busy day - we never went the snack bar as access to the splash park was so difficult with are children we just hung around till dinner opened. Older Bar staff -2 lady’s and man at the main pool/bar are super grumpy very unfriendly and actually put me off ordering a drink. Other than that very good hotel would recommend to others .

Short break in Lloret

Reviewed By Jo M

We booked this 5 night break as our first overseas travel since covid. We had not been to this part of Mainland Spain before and I was pleasantly surprised at how pretty the resort is in places- one thing I was not aware of is the steep shelving shingle beach. Meaning that beach days were not happening for us on this holiday. The location of the hotel is amazing - right on the sea front - with amazing views over the resort and the beach area. There are some lovely cafe’s and restaurants just in front of the hotel which is lovely if you don’t fancy walking into the main centre of the town. I’m not sure what prices were like pre covid, but we found things very expensive. On average 8.50€ for a spirit / cocktail and soft drinks from 2.50 to 4€ each. 2 coffees a water and an ice cream sundae was €28 in a beach front bar! We had room 3035 which was a sea view room , and the Views were amazing. We found the room to be very tired with black mould ground into the shower base and the shower screen. The wardrobe was tiny and very dusty inside. It was cleaned every day, but the floor was not mopped and the same stains were in the balcony furniture from the day we arrived to the day we left. The hotel is a very strange set up. It feels like it is missing a bar area for the evening. It feels like it is a couple of hotels that they have tried to merge into one. There is a pool bar which opens until 11pm and the entertainment is in a room that you have to walk through a separate restaurant to access ! There is no bar open in this room either. The hotel does not allow you to charge anything to the room, so any drinks purchased at dinner must be paid for before exiting the restaurant- this is not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel. The food was not great for us - but then we are quite traditional in our eating habits ! I was surprised that the nightly specials were things like hamburgers, cold sausage board, cheese and chocolate fountains and not something more ‘Spanish’ but we always found ‘something ‘ to eat. The hotel has a no salt policy and this did mean that some dishes (especially the scrambled egg and omelettes) were quite bland at times. The pool area was quiet and it wasn’t difficult to get a sunbed every day. The adult area seemed nice and had cabanas- it’s a shame that there were not any available for families to use in the lower pool area. I did not see the pool being cleaned at all during the 6days we were there. They did start checking the chlorine levels from the 1st June, but the bottom of the main pool was filthy, lots of grit and stones and hair bobbles - all of which were in the pool for the entire duration of our stay. We had a lovely trip away and the weather was excellent- unfortunately, we would not choose this hotel again if we returned to Lloret, which is a shame as the location is excellent.
