Visited here as part of a group.Arrived around 7 and it was very busy with a large number of people drinking in the bar area and most tables occupied in the restaurant. This gave it a vibrant and very nice atmosphere - unlike a lot of Bern / Switzerland it felt like people were having a good time!Service was quick and the house beer - I had the Helles was very drinkable and I wished Iâd had the 0.5l rather than the 0.3l.Menu is typical Swiss with salads, traditional favourites as well as some twists - pulled deer kebab and strangely a range of Asian dishes cooked in a wok. These didnât match with the beer or the rest of the menu but I guess it adds variety.Ordered the Emmentaler Rosti which came with crispy bacon and an apple sauce. Portion was a reasonable size but not huge since that was the whole meal and although more than palatable lacked any kind of flavour. The bacon was crispy but I felt needed to be salty / smoked or both to complement the kind of blandness of the potatoes / cheese but it didnât have much taste at all. I used all the apple sauce although generally itâs not something I care much for.Good choice of desserts. I had a mini sundae with brownie pieces, ice cream and cream. Again it did the job without offering huge flavour. The other desserts looked good and the prices were reasonable. All in all - a very good atmosphere, great beer accompanied by palatable food lacking in that extra taste / zest to match with the other two. Volver ( to Return) Tapas Bar and Cafe in Bern offered a very authentic Spanish tapas menu. I had Polpo Gallegos and I must say it was delicious as was the lemon rhubarb crumble desert. The restaurant is situated in a quiet little plaza in a quaint part of town. The only complaint I have is that management allowed their guests to smoke at the tables in the street. Come on Switzerland...people shouldnât puff away whilst others are eating! Donât know what the official view on this is but elsewhere itâs a firm NO NO.

I didnât like the mashes potatoes but the rest was excellent, a slightly spicy ratatouille and a roast veal from heaven. The waitresses are kind and bring still water for free.
