This restaurant within the premises of the Ascona Golf Club is open to the public. We played there and wanted to have dinner after the game, which we finished at 6 pm.We stored our gear in the car and took a table at the lovely terrace adjacent to the 18th green.When a waiter finally came to our table he ( only speaking Italian, luckily one of us understood the local lingo ) informed us in a very arrogant and unfriendly manner, that the kitchen was closed and that we had to find a place to eat elsewhere. We showed him the opening times ( 9:30 pm on Thursdays )and asked for the Manager. He told us that the manager is not available and that the kitchen crew had cleaned and closed the kitchen at 5:30 pm !.Some clubmemder who also wanted to dine and were bluntly told the same story went berserk and used some strong language which apparently did not impress the arrogant waiter at all.Dear fedn,when someone writes a review on TripAdvisor (good or bad) people expect that the truth is told. Consequently I'm very disappointed in reading your story which is somewhat imaginary.First of all I know my staff very well and for sure there is no one as arrogant as described by you. The waiter informed you in our local official national language (which is italian) that the kitchen was closed: you did not like the message which has nothing to do with the person.Our opening hours are very clear. On Thursday the restaurant is usually open until 21:30 as you correctly write. But as written on our webpage, on our Facebook page, on the Golf Ascona website and on the flyers inside and outside the restaurant, during the period from August 2nd until August 11th the restaurant is open daily from 8AM until 8PM and the kitchen closes at 7PM.The kitchen never closes before 7PM and therefore I doubt very much that someone has told you that it was cleaned and closed at 5:30PM.

Posto molto cool di Locarno visitato durante il festival.Servizio eccellente per la cura (es. bicchiere di birra vuoto portato con ghiaccio per mantenerlo fresco) e prezzi giusti per la location. Non do un 5 perché qualcosa da migliorare câè ma sicuramente torneremo. Punto forte: detto del servizio al tavolo curato, cito la bella terrazza, un salotto in centro città .Da migliorare: secondo me, quando la cameriera viene al tavolo per prendere lâordinazione deve arrivare con un paio di menu, se poi il cliente non lo vuole, perché sa già cosa vuole. Questo non è stato fatto.

Friends recommended this hotel/restaurant to us. I cannot review the hotel as I did not stay there but I plan to do that if I ever return to Ascona. The hotel/restaurant is located a bit to the south of Ascona, overlooking Lago Maggiore. The restaurant has lovely seating possibilities to overlook the lake. Excellent service, wonderful food. The also have an excellent patisserie which we tried the next day (no cakes were left when we dined there, it seems that you need to come early to get some cakes). Starters were coquille st. jacque. We had a wonderful lake fish fillets-de-perche as its called in French, with veggies and any other sides you would like to order including the salad bar. The desert was a dream, I wish I knew what the cream was made of. The menu was SF.60 per person and drinks (4 water bottles, one espresso and wine added another SF. 64 all together 4 people 304 SF. It would be wise to book in advance both for lunch and dinner.

I am probably being a little unfair with the above rating which should be good. However when you are presented with a menu without any pasta / risotto dishes in Tessin something is wrong.!! The menu itself is somewhat limited and the portions are somewhat on the small side. The food is good but unexciting and if we had decided to eat here again on the next evening we would have struggled to select dishes which we really wanted to eat. The desserts were nothing to write home about either.!!The service is good and the staff are friendly but the dining room needs brightening up and a rethink is also required as far as the menu is concerned. Safe but a little boring.!!

Cozy and beautiful atmosphere, friendly service and very good food with an original touch. Coffee and drinks are also very good. And considering the quality and the nice, relaxing setting, in Switzerland you don't expect such fair prices. Two thumbs up, but beware of the tartare if you don't like chese: it has Parmesan in it.

The reception and service is very amicable... and the venue warm...And SOME of the tastes were delightful, including the taster, the ravioli and the asparagus soup... Unfortunately, my tagliolino was totally bland... Way too much variation in the quite limited menu...Many thanks for your feedback to our dishes. We would be delighted to serve you again soon.What do you mean with too much variation and limited menu? Would be love to have some more feedback. Anyway, our menu changes from season to season and I'm sure to match your criterias with our improved menu the next time!

Weâve been to Grotto La Risata to taste the typical dishes of the region. Couldnât be more satisfied!! The entire experience was stunning from the moment we stepped in. Perfect location, wonderful outside terrace, good ambience and cheerful owner. Average prices, surely worth it. Definitely recommended!!

Unable to walk to the town we had all our meals for 4 days at the Ascona Hotel restaurant. Every meal was just perfect. Nothing "strange" as on some of our trips. Service perfectly fine.
