Since Marina was one of the top rated Trip Advisor restaurants in Ascona we made reservations. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't live up to our expectations at all. The service was bad. Ignorant servents and mediocre food. We had to send out the carpaccio since it was so tough, and didn't even get an excuse. "It's supposed to taste like this" was the response. Well - no - It's NOT suppused to taste like that ... Beyond that we had to ask for the bread basket, and not until we were about to leave the restaurant they lighted the candles on the table. And do I need to say that my daughter who ordered spaghetti bolognese ended up with carbonara ...? Sorry Marina, we are not coming back, and we are not going to recommend your restaurant. There are so many other more cosy restaurants in Ascona with better service and greater food.Dear MadamThank you for having taken the time to leave a statement concerning our restaurant Marina. Italy without Pasta is like green Christmas, something is just missing. The ristorante Polo has mastered this old italian tradition! The handmade pasta tasted amazing. We went for the truffle tagliatelle and the seasonal ramson pasta which both exceeded our expectations and, furthermore, are very reasonably priced! Eva our waitress was also always very friendly and made our dinner exceptional. Very nice restaurant with typical dishes from the area, accessible by car or a (longer) walk from Ascona. Especially recommendable for an early dinner on a hot day, just great to sit under big trees and still see the sun shining on the opposite hillside...Price/value ratio is also very good.

Enjoyed my lunch and discussions with the owner and gentleman in the next table. Family style, tasty and easygoing, almost like the outside dining room for locals. You can eat quietly and talk small or big topics, but better try out your German or Italian, even if a bit rusty!

Weâve been to Grotto La Risata to taste the typical dishes of the region. Couldnât be more satisfied!! The entire experience was stunning from the moment we stepped in. Perfect location, wonderful outside terrace, good ambience and cheerful owner. Average prices, surely worth it. Definitely recommended!!

We took the bus from Locarno out there, after reading the reviews and having eaten already at some other grottos.Very friendly staff, did not made reservations and still got to sit where we wanted. Food was amazing so was the service. Did not had desert but a great merlot from the region and a bottle of water. We are definitely coming back

My wife and I had a terrific lunch in all regards. The service was prompt, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The setting on the terrace with the view across Lago Maggiore and the general ambience were very nice as well. However, the excellent food is the real star. We each chose to have the three-course menu, which had been recently set for autumn. We found each of our dishes to be excellent: rabbit liver pate, hazelnut-encrusted venison, and peach tarte with caramel ice cream. Weâre currently planning when will be our next visit.Dear travelin-tommy, warm thanks for your great review. We are happy you had a terrific experience at our restaurant. Besides our daily changing 4-course menu, we have a quiet large menu card which we adapt about every 3 months, according to the season. The autumn menu card, which proposes also game, has just been set in the beginning of September and you were the first to taste it We are looking forward to seeing you soon again at the Collinetta for one more tasty lunch or dinner. I live nearby and Al Fresco is my go-to eatery when I don't feel like cooking. Why? Good food, friendly service and an amazing view of Laggo Maggiore. The pizzas and risottos are delish (especially the red wine risotto with radicchio and mullet) but the sizzling steak on a hot stone is my dish of choice - perfectly grilled and served with home fries and seasonal veggies. This is one of the best spots to eat in the area and well worth the drive or short walk uphill from town.
