Orasay Inn Restaurant

Reviewed By Brooska - UK

Seafood platter starter is definitely for sharing - not for 1 unless as a main course. Langoustines were divine. Mussels and Scallops were good but the crab claws, although OK, were evidently not as fresh (or overcooked) compared to the rest of the platter. Mains of Orasay scallops were filling as was the seafood Mornay. A comfortable hospitable venue serving the islanders and holiday makers - staff dealt with diners but could do with a little help as seemed a little stressed. Maybe on a Sunday they have reduced staff?

Barbara's Cafe

Reviewed By sbizzle - london

As three hungry cyclists we would probably have eaten anything, so this report is probably skewed in the cafe's favour. Our baked potatoes and sandwiches were ok, but nothing special. The cakes served were very small portions and I also noticed people in front of me complaining about the size of them. But they are pre-cut, and the girl on the till can't do anything about that.
Very, very average.

Stopped here after Reading about it on Outer Hebrides food trail site.
It is along the road from the main highway and easily recognised by the bright pink roof.
Inside is the post office, a gift shop and cafe.
We ordered coffees a slice of Bakewell tart and brownie. The coffee was excellent, in my experience it is rare to find anyone who can make a really good flat white, here they were excellent, indeed so good we each had a second. The cakes were clearly home made and equally delicious.
The service was friendly, efficient and all you could ask for. I must say they teach many an expensive restaurant how to do excellent service.
We decided it was the best coffee we had had for a long time, excellent cake and service in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, well worth the detour off the main road.

Hebridean Jewellery Cafe

Reviewed By bluesbuddah - Glasgow, United Kingdom

Went here in desperation, hiding from some really bad trip spoiling weather. The jewellery didn't really catch my attention as it falls under the usual highly priced tourist trap category.
the cafe on the other hand was a joy full of an amazing choice of home baked goodies and the expected range of teas and coffees. Prices were not any higher than those on the Mainland.
I would probably have never seen this place had it not been for the rain. Our coach driver was desperate to find places not on the original itinerary to take his busload of disgruntled passengers.Nice as it was it did not recompense our cancelled trip to barra.

Polochar Inn

Reviewed By Francesca F - Bologna

we didn't stay as guests at the Polochar Inn but went there 2 nights in a row for dinner. the restaurant is furnished as a traditional inn restaurant, very nice and cosy. the menu contains some traditional dishes but also available some extras as today's special. The offer is good, both for meat or fish dishes. Each dish is prepared and served with great accuracy and the food is very good and fresh. Big portions! Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Café was very busy when we were there but waitress did her best to give us good service. Decent menu for a café and food was good. Even had gluten free bread. Nice view of ocean at front of building. Good family place.
