The former village of Arenal near the La Fortuna area was inundated in 1978 with the formation of the artificial Lake Arenal. Nuevo Arenal was a government project to relocate the displaced people. Nuevo Arenal is located about a one-hour drive northwest from the original village along a beautiful paved lakeside road that goes from La Fortuna to Tilaran.

Highly recommend this coffee shop and gift shop. It's has a fantastic view of Lake Arenal on the back patio, with super clean bathrooms, cute gift shop and fantastic multigrain cake that the owner serves warm, with fabulous coffee. I don't recall the owners names, but they've only been open for 1.5 months and are doing a fantastic job. Their english is very good and they were very charming. This "mom and pop" shop is a great stop for a quick treat. Don't miss the chance to sit out back and enjoy the view, birds and the great service.

We have been in Costa Rica now for over a week and although the food we have eaten has generally been good, the food at this place has been the best by far! There are 4 of us travelling together and we all agree that the food here is the most authentic, delicious, fresh and properly priced. The casados are great and the fajitas too. Fresh ingredients and large portions. I am reliably informed that the desserts are delicious (I couldn’t eat them because they were not gluten free). If you are GF, tell the owner and he will make sure you get a great meal GF without compromising on flavour. If we were staying in Nuevo Arenal more days, we would eat here everyday!! My husband and I are from Santa Barbara, CA. we own a home in Nuevo Arenal. We Frequent the Bambu often. The local cuisine is tasty, the pizzas are delicious, the atmosphere is down to earth, has great character, and fun. The owner, Randal, and his wife Maritza are absolutely wonderful, including the rest of the staff. It's a true "Pura Vida" experience!! Enjoy!!

El Corral restaurant in Aguacate is a gem of a place. We had the chicken casado and everything on the plate was excellent. The chicken was flavorful and tender, the rice done to perfection, the beans were the best, the salad was crisp, tomato tasted like it used to many, many years ago and even the plantain was perfect. The price of 3,900 colones is a bargain, beer extra. The restaurant is fairly new and clean and I appreciate that the kitchen is open to the dining area. You could watch your food being prepared and the chef was meticulous in cleaning up the counters and prep areas. Will definitely be back often. Can't rate this one high enough.

We video taped 8-10 toucans here at the restaurant during lunchtime, and so many other birds! Was the most amazing place to watch birds in Nuevo Arenal. They have a restaurant that serves delicious food and has such a gorgeous view. Also, there are hotel rooms in the base of the building. They are simple and quaint, colorful but the view and animals and birds are what make it so awesome!! The man who owns it is an amazing person. Worth the trip!!!!!

We found this nice restaurant by accident, driving along the lake. The Texan owner is very friendly and the view is really amazing. Birds lovers are happy there since a whole lot of them fly by. Food was OK, a bit slow but, hey, we’re on holidays :)

The view is fabulous - the restaurant is well located on a knoll overlooking the lake with sweeping views...and benefiting from a cooling breeze. The service personnel are attentive and provide good suggestion as to what meals to try. Our family ate here several times over the course of a week and tried nearly everything on the menu - all was good.

The food was so good and very high quality ingredients! They really go the extra mile with their presentation as well! I ordered the Mountain Man salad which had grilled eggplant and zucchini. It was cooked to perfection! My husband had a pizza which was also delicious. I love the little dishes they bring to accompany every meal. They include homemade pesto, Parmesan cheese and homemade hot sauce (hot), all delicious! Connie provided great service and spoke English very well! We highly recommend Moya’s!

Eyal, the host, was a charming person, full of stories and information. We opted for the menu where he just keeps bringing the food which cost $39 each. The food was really good and I mean really good. The tuna was amazing, the filet mignon was really nice, it was all great. Highly recommended
