It is located on the north-east shore of Lake Arenal. The former village of Arenal near the La Fortuna area was inundated in 1978 with the formation of the artificial Lake Arenal. Nuevo Arenal was a government project to relocate the displaced people. Nuevo Arenal is located about a one-hour drive northwest from the original village along a beautiful paved lakeside road that goes from La Fortuna to Tilaran.

We have been in Costa Rica now for over a week and although the food we have eaten has generally been good, the food at this place has been the best by far! There are 4 of us travelling together and we all agree that the food here is the most authentic, delicious, fresh and properly priced. The casados are great and the fajitas too. Fresh ingredients and large portions. I am reliably informed that the desserts are delicious (I couldn’t eat them because they were not gluten free). If you are GF, tell the owner and he will make sure you get a great meal GF without compromising on flavour. If we were staying in Nuevo Arenal more days, we would eat here everyday!! El Corral restaurant in Aguacate is a gem of a place. We had the chicken casado and everything on the plate was excellent. The chicken was flavorful and tender, the rice done to perfection, the beans were the best, the salad was crisp, tomato tasted like it used to many, many years ago and even the plantain was perfect. The price of 3,900 colones is a bargain, beer extra. The restaurant is fairly new and clean and I appreciate that the kitchen is open to the dining area. You could watch your food being prepared and the chef was meticulous in cleaning up the counters and prep areas. Will definitely be back often. Can't rate this one high enough.

Our experience gives this restaurant an average rating although others gave it better. We tried this based on TripAdvisor. I ordered a cheeseburger and was told the hamburger meat had not arrived from San Jose so no burgers. I then ordered a beef burrito which, sad to say, I could not detect any beef. It was mostly refried beans. Perhaps no beef because the supply had not arrived. We also watched a cat jump up onto the bar. French fries were very good, though. Overall, we would not visit this restaurant again.

Wonderful food and great atmosphere!You cannot beat the view!!Staff was very friendly and kind and spoke english.Credit cards accepted.We ate here once for breakfast and once for lunch.Vegetarian options available which was big for us.Pancakes were awesome and their quesadillas and nachos were incredible!Will definitely be coming back.

Definitely eat here to get an amazing taste of local cuisine! The owner is a sweet woman and the staff are all wonderful. I had the casado de pescado with garlic and would recommend that to fellow fish-lovers!

The food was so good and very high quality ingredients! They really go the extra mile with their presentation as well! I ordered the Mountain Man salad which had grilled eggplant and zucchini. It was cooked to perfection! My husband had a pizza which was also delicious. I love the little dishes they bring to accompany every meal. They include homemade pesto, Parmesan cheese and homemade hot sauce (hot), all delicious! Connie provided great service and spoke English very well! We highly recommend Moya’s!

Caballo Negro was recommended to us and we are so glad we stopped! We were so impressed with the ambiance, the view, the food, the service...everything spectacular! We chose a spinach omelet which was loaded with spinach and came with the best curried potatoes I have ever eaten. AND fresh fruit! Couldn't resist the homemade apple strudel either! Monika is not only a fabulous cook she is an artist and actually made the beautiful tables in the restaurant. After you eat be sure to browse the shop with locally made items and artwork. This was one of our most memorable and enjoyable stops during our month in Costa Rica. I highly recommend this gem!Thanks so much for the review, and glad we made your visit to Costa Rica memorable. And next time try the Corned Beef Hash. We are the only ones around who serve that, along with the Reuben for lunch. Hope to see you again soon.
