Nuevo Arenal is a town and district in Tilarán Canton in the Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica. It is located on the north-east shore of Lake Arenal. The former village of Arenal near the La Fortuna area was inundated in 1978 with the formation of the artificial Lake Arenal. Nuevo Arenal was a government project to relocate the displaced people. Nuevo Arenal is located about a one-hour drive northwest from the original village along a beautiful paved lakeside road that goes from La Fortuna to Tilaran.

Caballo Negro was recommended to us and we are so glad we stopped! We were so impressed with the ambiance, the view, the food, the service...everything spectacular! We chose a spinach omelet which was loaded with spinach and came with the best curried potatoes I have ever eaten. AND fresh fruit! Couldn't resist the homemade apple strudel either! Monika is not only a fabulous cook she is an artist and actually made the beautiful tables in the restaurant. After you eat be sure to browse the shop with locally made items and artwork. This was one of our most memorable and enjoyable stops during our month in Costa Rica. I highly recommend this gem!Thanks so much for the review, and glad we made your visit to Costa Rica memorable. And next time try the Corned Beef Hash. We are the only ones around who serve that, along with the Reuben for lunch. Hope to see you again soon.

Wonderful food and great atmosphere!You cannot beat the view!!Staff was very friendly and kind and spoke english.Credit cards accepted.We ate here once for breakfast and once for lunch.Vegetarian options available which was big for us.Pancakes were awesome and their quesadillas and nachos were incredible!Will definitely be coming back.

We visited for lunch and returned to ride the train up to their panoramic restaurant, the food quality was average and drinks reasonably priced , The train ride is a real blast on a small train up a winding track over bridges and through tunnels to arrive at a Oanoramic restaurant with great views of the Atenal Volcano. Food in the panoramic restaurant was average but great views as the rotating restaurant turns.

Worth the short walk up the driveway (if you parked across the street). Homemade bread and pastries but, more importantly, family run...and you can feel that when you enter.Also, more affordable than the place across the street. If you want to feel like you’re a guest in someone’s home vs another customer at a restaurant, this is a must.
